Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road To Odyssey Part 1 - One Giant Leap

"Then I suggest you read the Odyssey announcement as its obviously more then that, there are no maybes or a lack of communication. As to gameplay on your own ship I see very little gameplay involved." Again, this announces what Odyssey will entail...not what will release on the day, We have seen these "announcements" before then on release its flat and not what it was made out to be, have you been shown anything yet? Then not confirmed yet as stated, Concept art doesnt count, we have been shown concept art for years that never made it in the game yet was advertised as coming soon or in the next package etc...

"I'm not saying I don't want ship interiors, I just see other things that are far more important to develop. And to me that's what they are doing from what I've seen and read so far." But you havnt stated what you deem "more" important, are you saying fps combat clipping and everything else iv stated isnt important for such an update? we havnt been show any layouts of any close proximity places yet so until then my argument still stands, Personally the way i think its going to be is a walking srv with guns if someone else lands near you, and due to peer to peer issue that has plagued elite since launch I can see this go south

fps set combat will be exactly what Arena was most likely (I hope not) and left eventually abandoned (I hope not), I cant see the social hubs either being anymore than another station with a panel and maybe a cut scene of your Commander walking in...until we get more than concept art.

I have read the announcement yes....its very vague and can be interpreted in many ways and some of which make hype (I hope the hype is real) however judging from every update so far it has either been a letdown, grindfest, ignored and featureless and pretty much lackluster to what their "Announcements" said it would be.

So until we get actual footage in game, more actual live feed of the update/package the Jury is out but from 8 years of my own experience I wont bite my tongue for it.

Example from announcement "
Assemble Your Crew

Social hubs spread throughout the galaxy give Commanders the ideal place to plan their next move. Form alliances, procure services, and even find expert support in highly coveted Engineers. These public outposts also help you acquire and upgrade weapons and gear to perfect your playing style.

Nothing there states social hubs will be anything more than a new style of panel like the new fleet carrier panel, all i see is you walk into outpost (or drive whatever) and it will be like docking in a station, a quick cutscene of your character entering the door seeing inside then the panel comeons up, maybe a section for chatting bigger than the comms box but limited to whos inside...i cant see it being anything else until its shown by Fdev...
That's just all guess work. You have no idea what's coming, so maybe we should wait for the Dev diaries before jumping to conclusions.

They have given us a rundown on what is coming when Odyssey drops in early 2021, we have plenty of time to come to a proper conclusion if it's any good after watching the Dev diaries and seeing it in action properly further down the line.

Deciding what it's going to be like know, just sound utterly foolish to me. I really don't see the point in that.

But they didn't confirmed a second roll after the Odyssey release.
They only said "not at launch" and that it's not currently in work which actually means nothing. The fact that those missing features will be released one year later is purely forum speculation. They could also come 5 years later or not coming at all as well.
This is FDEV communication at its best.
We have no idea what they are currently working on now. Many of the team will likely have done most or all of their work for Odyssey already and will have started on the next project.

Yes, we don't know what's coming after Odyssey, so maybe we should wait until we do.

They have already stated that this expansion isn't the end. This expansion has layed down a framework for them to build on in future expansions/updates.

To be fair though, when they announced Horizons, they also didn't advertise anything else that was in the Horizons Season until much, much closer to release. The initial selling point was solely the ability to land on non-atmospheric planets. I suspect we're seeing the same thing here. Push the major selling point, then give a full list of features for the year to come after that.

Possibly. We will have to wait and see.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if we had updates that adds a bit more meat to the bones throughout next year, then a build up to another expansion a year after. As the have the framework in place, hopefully the next one won't take two years to produce.

What makes people think that this is just a one-off DLC?!?! The last paid update-Horizons-came with a full year's worth of additional content beyond the non-atmospheric planetary landings. The notion that they'll chuck Odyssey out the door, then leave it at that, is totally laughable. Again I feel like this is just rampantly negative posters trying to twist the narrative to suit their negative outlook.

Lets face it, from a marketing perspective the ability to walk on planets with thin atmospheres is going to move many more units than being able to walk around your ship.

Frontier stated themselves that they are moving out from seasonal releases to one complete DLC. That mean they suppose to deliver everything they want with this update in one go.

Yea, see the thing about plans is that they are subject to change. Some people here look at this stuff and act like its a binding contract.
That is fair enough and I am not talking about legal contracts etc clearly FD are covered however given how ED was KSed and the features used to tempt KSers to pay far more than the cost of the game just to support the vision, I personally think it is just respectful to keep those backers in the loop about features cut, why they were cut and what to expect going forward.
FD said their whole ethos was to move away from the big publisher model and adopt a more open one.

Yes and that's a BIG change... As I already said somewhere else: "It's a giant leap" in the wrong direction.
If it was a binding contract I would file a sue case.
I'm genuine disappointed instead and I have all rights to complain because of that evidence.

Frontier really needs to reevaluate not being able to walk around on ships with the initial Odyssey release as this was why everyone looked forward to space legs in the first place in addition to walking around on planets. Also this means no ship boarding on disabled ships, lets hope that this is in the works with walking around on ships as well. Hope your listening Frontier.

I agree.
I mean we only need legs in ED for spaceships and space stations interactions.
If we want to play FPS on alien worlds we already have tonnes fo wonderful games to do so...
Don't get me wrong: spionage missions and sneaking inside outpost could be cool if properly done, but that's definitely a lower priority for me if I can't leave the ships on my own legs.
