Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 7 Notes

While the notes are extensive and I would absolutely love to give fdev some positive feedback. I have none to give. Odyssey was released in May. It is now September. That's just for odyssey.

It is a shame it took the absolute decimation of the playerbase for something to get done. But I forget, critical feedback is not something you listen to unless it comes with the dollar sign attached to it. I'll get a warning, I might even get banned just for saying what I think. Elite used to be for me, something to strive for as a game and a company. It has microtransactions, but they aren't pay to win, it's a good model and it's been proven countless times.

I used to work in cyber security for a bank and I'll tell you, if I screwed up as badly as the odyssey launch did, I'd have been fired on the spot and that would be the lightest possibility.

So, Congrats to the dev team for successfully polishing a turd. Because after 4 months, the game still has more bugs than I've ever drank cups of coffee (that's a lot) the content is non existent other than the copy and paste community goals that haven't changed in years. And are we any closer to thargoid interaction after what, 3 years? Other than straight up murdering them, no.

Elite at its highest could do no wrong. Now I suggest you take a leaf from your competitors and do what needs to be done to bring this game back to being the pinnacle of games that it was.

"But we are doing updates" I hear you cry
Sure, only out of necessity, rather than taking care of your players and the people who put money in your pockets. A long time ago, the players came to fdev and said no more content we want things fixing. Granted you did exactly as we asked. This is placation, nothing more. You pulled a move similar to one pulled by a different company, who only just had their steam rating change from downright negative to almost positive. Elite managed this in reverse. Time to change gear, stick it in drive and get started.

The irony of all I have said, is no one's going to read it, someone will take offence and it'll be canned to ever circle the black hole of honest feedback instead of brown nosing the individuals who work at the company.

But yay, updates. sigh

I can't see any fixes for CQC

No worries then!
Once we've got all of the creases ironed out and the game is solid enough to re-introduce more gameplay and feature related stuff (like, soon), we'll hopefully see you a bit happier, but let's see :)

In contrast, i read these things and conclude that it's also a very limited QoL patch. Of course, it is not up yet, so i can't see if for example what i described here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/ui-inconsistencies-need-to-be-sorted-out-still.587871/ for example was addressed. But at least according to what i read here, i would say it was not.

And other bugs: i hope more where squished than what was in the patch notes. Time will tell.

Sylow come on, we're doing the best we can. Crikey.

I know this is tiny but I hope this sticks:
  • A fix has been implemented for occasions when avatars at some stations would all have blonde (they do have more fun though, apparantly...) or white hair.

Please don't do this, it's just bad design not consistent with any reality.

You can literally eat off the floor of a professional ag or industrial facility in real ife. Why would that be different in space?
I'm sure Asteroid mining will look like this:

I did see one drink bottle at one point, but apart from that the place is spotless.

It's more likely the hi-tech stations are a mess from all the tech weebos throwing rubbish on the floor, and the wealthy ones will also look like rubbish bins once the cleaning bots go on strike.

Agreed - the appearance of a facility should be more tied to the actual state the controlling faction is in rather than what industry it represents. Who says Industry needs to be dirty? Ever seen Intel or AMDs production facilities?

Sadly, this change just represents another example of how separate Odyssey is from the base game.

I admit that I was guilty of irresponsibly pressing this button whilst in all of my pc friend's ships! 🦹‍♂️

The "View Gamer Card" button on crew role panel for PC has been removed, as this is only meant for Xbox.
