What the heck?!? Can't get the files!

Are Frontier actually going to publish a user guide or other book for this game, even in Beta condition? If so, could you guys please put this book someplace where a user can get it without jumping through hoops of fire? Like, on Frontier's own site? Mediafire wants some kind of 'media player' or other software installed on my machine, and Scribd wants me to join up just to get the doc.

Forget [cough] them.

How about publishing where we can get to it? I don't know, maybe in the UK it is common practice to use phunky publishing services that put all kinds of restrictions on the users, but here in the States we like to use file sharing services that don't creep the users out with Big Brother tactics. Whatever.

this guide is user made and i don't have access to frontier storage so i publish where i never had problems - who really want to use scribd can do what they are asking and i never had any problems with mediafire...ever and this is first time i hear about something like that, and i used mediafire for many years without registering.

so give me a place where to throw them and i will, but then there will be no guarantee that someone from country X will not come and tell that this is unacceptable and whatever ;)

Brilliant guide.

Page 85, I think its just due to the beta2 update that there are more missions... but could be wrong I'm unsure if the reputation system is in play yet?

yeah, all is highly uncertain now :)
from my experience - there is reputation to some degree, because "prove that you're worth" missions start popping up only after some time and only from parties which missions you already completed, also i have one station when i almost always get at least 1 50k++ delivery mission and usually i can get there 3-4 of such in 2-3 refreshes, sometimes even 3 of such missions to same place in one go, but overall it's not important because beta 3 will change mission system, then gamma will change it even more, i hope missions will evolve a lot as now there really are only several type of missions and they do not evolve at all..

I agree, mission evolving would be awesome semi story line kinda deal :).

I have another question I didn't gain an understanding on from the guide... Silent running if your internal heat is high will you still be spotted e.g being scanned by police?

it's hard to tell as silent run is changing (and we just got loads of new modules to play, including sensor upgrades) and the real testing should be done closer to gamma (at least i will play with it then).

main thing i learned about silent run is: you should start it before enemy has lock on you and it works best at distance, also when you are using silent run your internal heat doesn't matter at all as it's stored inside your ship and nothing goes outside (vents are closed), your heat matters only if you are not running silent mode but shutting down your systems manually - then your vents are open and sensors pick up all heat you generate ;)

Hi Forger, really great work from you. I wat say one big Thanks!!!

I found incorrect link on the Usefull links page

XBOX 360 reference card - http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36844

Maybe you can add more information about XBOX360 binds, recommendation and printable (B/W) Key mapping.

thanks for reporting a broken link :)
i would like to add if someone would give me a link or pictures of a good xbox360 mapping/default listing, i don't use that controller so have no clue which mapping is worth including.

A quick note about the Shield Cell Bank on P91. You can assign it to a fire group, but alternatively you can set any key or button to fire it, as there's a "Use Shield Cell" entry in the binding options screen.

hhh, was thinking "same as heat sink = key or fire group" but wrote "only fire group" ;)

thanks ;)

Awesome work!

Absolutely awesome work. Really comprehensive knowledge and research, with a clean and clear presentation. I know how much work this kind of thing involves, and I salute you for all the hours, love and effort you put into this amazingly comprehensive guide.

Featured on me blog, and immediately added to top of the index of guides and tutorials. Also very honored that Elitejinja gets a link for the x52 Pro setup guide. Cheers!

[If you want to let me know when you release updates to this guide, please just leave a comment on my blog, and then I'll defo. notice. I'd love to know about any new/updated versions!]

[Edit: links in your .pdf are clickable... I was just viewing in firefox browser, doh!]

One question: is it possible for you to make the links 'clickable' in your .pdf?

weird, all links should be clickable within pdf, at least in my acrobat pro all works as intended. it probably depends on the software you are using as there are so many small differences, what are you using for viewing pdf's? ;)

edit: just loaded pdf from your blog in chrome and all links are clickable :)

I'd rep this but there appears to be no rep button! Nyarrgh!
there is a Rep star on the left now, but good words means more than rep :)

Hi Forger,

you can perhaps add 2-3 ship names on page 114.

See link below:
http://www.elite-dangerous.fr/index...vaisseaux-de-la-beta-classe-petite-et-moyenne

On the other hand in 2-3 days Beta 3 will come out with certainly more additional ship and some imperial ships (Imperial Hunter and the Imperial Courier or Trader) :)

On page 95, you could perhaps also add the version explanation like you did on page 96 for the Multi-cannons "scatter spray / overcharged / high impact"
=> for "Low Heat / Focused / Overcharged"
