Elite Dangerous plans for 2024

No matter what is done it will never be enough for some people and everything is "doom".
It has been imminent doom since I started frequenting this forum in 2018, which amuses me, even now.

The fact that appears to be missed, in general, is that there is nothing a player can do to influence the longevity, or otherwise, of this (or any non-subscription) game. Shout it is doomed, or not, it all comes down to Frontier - if they fail the game is gone, if they decide to pull the plug, the game is gone... Otherwise the game will continue for an indefinite time.

I do understand it is complex to comprehend - hence my simplified version.

It has been imminent doom long before 2018 ;) The only "major" update that was met with mostly positive feedback was "Horizons". (even though I personally liked most of the updates, even CQC and Powerplay)

Concerning "...the game is gone": during beta (or even earlier) it was stated multiple times that FDev might try to enable an offline mode before the servers go offline, in order to let players continue play in a copy of the current galaxy at that point as a single player game, IIRC. No idea if this is still in the cards, but I would definitely appreciate it.

I selected your 'Upcoming features in Elite: Dangerous' signature link and this was the result:

Must be my browser or OS ;)

Do you have an accurate source for this statement?
Or is it just opinion?

Steam charts are not accurate - but figures directly from Frontier would be acceptable...

ETA: It reminds me of another poster telling us that a German Magazine thinks that the latest Warhammer release will cost FD £32 million in the next year... and providing a link to a steam forum post, that itself doesn't link to said article - just vapour...
You are right, the steam statistics are not the most accurate statistics possible. But it's still the only good indicator, since Frontier doesn't publish numbers. Steam's statistics strenghten the other numbers: the number of participants in CGs is a third of what was seen in previous years (there hasn't been a successful CG in a while). The servers are humming with emptiness. Even the gankers are gone, I haven't been attacked in months. Bubble's popular systems are visited by 2-5 players per day (according to the statistics available at the stations).
The story was completely bogged down, the thargoid war scared away a bunch of mediocre players at the beginning (they didn't have weapons and skills to fight), while the other story elements were completely pushed into the background. The thargoid story doesn't even interest the hardcore axi players anymore, in the last few weeks humanity has been losing systems, if you look at the statistics on inara.
The previously promised major game elements have not arrived, and even the improvements requested by the players for years, such as ship interiors, new missions, additional bubbles etc.
I'm not burying the game, it's my favorite game, I have thousands of hours in it, but please don't act like everything is as good as possible and I'm just a croak.

The source for this was during the kickstarter when Frontier were engaging with backers in the kickstarter chat, and were asked what would happen if they shut down the servers. I can't remember who, but someone suggested they (Frontier) could allow players to host an offline version. As far as I know, Frontier have never given an official statement on this, so regard it as player speculation.

That's a lot more to do with the system difficulty recently increasing and the number of Thargoid attacks per week increasing at the same time - the amount of anti-Thargoid activity being recorded is fairly stable (and higher than in August) but it doesn't win as many systems as it used to.

One major form of offensive activity is mostly on hold due to the need to analyse the implications of this a bit further before committing to a new wave of counter-attacks ... but that's a strategic choice.

The source for this was Newsletter 50 in the Elite: Dangerous Offline Mode - Q&A

Could the server code be released publicly some day when the servers are shut down?
Yes. This is something we would do if for whatever reason we cannot keep the game going.

Btw., have there been any new ships since the addition of the Chieftain in "Beyond"? Anything new about the Panther Clipper? I used to maintain a list of available ships (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/ship-list.145846/) and wondered whether "Odyssey" brought anything new here? Or new fighters? SRVs?
Compared with the list in the first post:

Ships: Krait Phantom, Krait Mk II, Mamba
SRVs: Scorpion
Fighters: three Guardian fighters (Trident, Javelin, Lance)

The Scorpion is the only one introduced by Odyssey - the Guardian fighters showed up late in Beyond, and the Kraits and Mamba in the unnamed year after that. (Odyssey's focus was on personal equipment, so it did introduce three alternative personal suits - Artemis, Dominator and Maverick)

Dear lord we're really going through all of the classics here aren't we. "Promises", Player Numbers, New Ships, even that which shall not be spoken of was brought up again :)

Let's just see if we can try and keep things civil please.

It is the holidays... Perhaps boredom has set in and the return to work will bring some 'normal' behaviour? (normal being all of the above anyway!)

That is a big ask...
