I'm sure this has been said many times before but.... mining is way overpowered, especially compared to the little that can be done to undermine it.

Mining is itself an Undermining action, so you can just do it straight back. One of the biggest undermining actions last cycle was done almost entirely through mining.

It's also extremely situational because of the location requirements and the need to establish a favourable BGS state for selling. Sure, when it works, it's great, and it's a big galaxy so you can always find somewhere if you're just in it for the personal merits. Now try mining to reinforce a system with no ringed gas giants, a single rocky asteroid belt, and a lack of Refinery/Tourism economies.

I can't confirm that. Sure, there are things in flux, especially with Orrere. But in other regions, Mahons and our (Kaines) commanders were able to talk. I've seen this several times. Sometimes we were amused that the game mechanics identified us as being hostile. One time, we started talking even after we briefly opened fire on each other because we've met inside a power conflict zone and didn't look closely enough at first.
The understanding that we are allied is present. And I think it's a good thing to be able to stand together as the alliance. On the other hand, I'm curious to see how things play out in the mid term about political things where we disagree, such as the club and Sirius.

That's the "other" Kaine discord, I assume, not the "Joint Alliance" one?

AFAIK, there are three Alliance Discords: One for Kaine, one for Mahon and one for both, the Alliance. Don't know anything about that one for Mahon though, I'm just expecting it to exist.
And yes, I've meant the Kaine Discord, not the Alliance one.

So it seems the galaxy map filters are, once again, broken?

I'm afraid so. At least in the beginning of the last cycle when I was searching for power conflicts, knowing our acquisition targets from the said Kaine discord. And I've found nothing. Later I've seen that symbol on at least one of these systems, Gippsworld. But at that point in time I already knew about the power conflict zones there very well.

I was under the impression your Power needed to be in control of the system for mining to generate op merits. I'll check again, thanks!

For Undermining it's going to depend on the system - for best results you'd want one with both difficulty indicators at Standard (though that applies to any undermining action).

Depending on your Power's specific ethos combination you might find that mining is a preferred action (50% bonus) for some system states but not all of them. So Mahon, for example, gets a mining bonus when Reinforcing but not generally when Undermining ... on the other hand, Kaine gets it when Undermining but not when Reinforcing.

Mining is also always a bonus action when Undermining Zemina Torval, regardless of your own Power (and this is the only time a lot of Powers get a bonus to mining)

Just confirmed, my power receives no merits for mining in our own system. I guess we'll have to hack a whole lot of ads, and fine ourselves for it lol. Seriously messed up and entirely unbalanced.

If you're going to do that, just killing enemy Power ships is probably more efficient, and harms your local reputation less.
(Just have someone else's IF to go to to clear the bounties)

Cargo donation missions are also fairly efficient.

I'll give UnderMining a test later today to see if I can get it to work.

You're lucky - I get 12 merits per scan. 20 merits is a bonus for specific Powers only.

Maybe don't just scan them then. Use your weapons.

A single NPC can pay 250 to 600 merits in a power CZ.

I would love to use my weapons but my merit gains have been so nerfed I can't unlock any.

This is the issue with “balancing” the grind … I struggle to hit 30k in a week so will take months to get the modules I want but other folks appear to do absolutely nothing except play Elite!!

The way this is handled, we have all learned the balance does not mean equal or fair.

If they nerf anything about scanning, it should probably be merits for scanning your own Power's patrol ships near a stronghold carrier. They scan instantly and you can just hop in and out of the instance spamming the "scan next ship" key for 200+ effortless but dull merits per instance.

No wonder those guys are all scanning you (and each other, probably) whenever they see you!

For those trying to explain... I also work at work and still have time to create games (3D modeling and graphics), in addition to playing Elite. And yes, I worked a lot in Elite this week. I just like being in this game! There are very few games of this class!
For developers:
A mechanism should be introduced to decrease the merit score (and accordingly decrease the rank and privileges), equal to the cost of merits for uncompleted weekly tasks! This will contribute to the life of PP2.

Thats right. If they hadn't disabled the exc... used actions I would have been in the 3rd place. But that was not what I intend to achive. I'd like to rank up to 100 just for the benefits and than I'm done with PP2.0. What I don't understand is the reason why those actions were disabled. To me it looks like the players ranked up to quick, but now they rank up even quicker.

Merit gains have gone through the roof so it's even easier to unlock those modules than it was during the 1st week of PPv2.
And you don't need a powerplay weapon to shoot down those NPCs BTW.

Merits gains are nerfed. I can't level 100 in less than a week. The weekly assignments are disabled and i can't even complete those. Only those that are 100+ have no issue with the merits and why should they. They have everything.
