Elite Dangerous | Powerplay 2.0 Update

I just repeated the experiment with another thousand tons of gold in a different system that I'm reinforcing. Same result. No merits earned for an extremely profitable trade.
I suspect now that the goods are tainted. They must be flagged in such a way as to keep the player from using vast quantities of stolen and laundered commodities to affect control points. At least, that's the only working theory that I can come up with ATM.
Are the goods touching a carrier market by any chance? Buying or selling from a carrier invalidates the merits. Otherwise can't replicate. I have made hundreds of thousands of merits from 1 or 2 ton trading in the last 2 weeks.

Oh yeah. Definitely being laundered through the carrier's secure storage. I didn't know that goods bought from a carrier had any effect at all on their use for PP.
Today I learned.....

But this brings up another question. Why the the ever living freak would they disallow the player from using one of our most versatile assets (the carrier's storage) to affect the state of the galaxy through their new baby PP2.0?
This seems like a poor design choice.

You can use the carrier storage but you have to use the transfer menu, it can't touch the carrier market, which makes sense as you can completely manipulate the pricing from the market.

IINM, you can still use laundered goods to complete support missions for merits (since you're not actually selling them), but I'm still figuring out how to trigger high value metal donation missions.

I think you need to be high rep with a faction who owns an industrial or high tech station but it's still not showing up for me.

Finding the missions is hit or miss for me even though I am allied with factions all over the bubble. "Donating" that gold earned me no merits though. Tried it in two different systems.

My next experiment is to find out what effect (if any) selling stolen goods to a black market has with regards to undermining.
That's going to require me to steal more goods. Fortunately, there are no shortage of imperials with good intentions. I just have to get rid of about 12K tons of "clean" metal first.

. Neither did selling them a quarter million in cartographic data.

UC data has a per-body threshold of nearly 700k CR, below which you get zero merits.

This might be useful. First two certainly count for merits, not sure if the third also goes in (with the extra from good scan)
All the rest, only moneyz.

Powerplay is currently borked. I just tested several actions in a system that my power (LYR) controls and I was trying to reinforce.
There certainly seems to be something up with LYR PowerPlay weeklies at the moment.

I have one very specific assignment which is collect 11 units of Political and Association data from Tripuna and hand it into a power contact at LTT 10410. Fairly unambiguous, but collecting the data in the exact system specified and handing it in at the exact system specified does not count toward the assignment.

Another specific assignment is to scan wakes and ships in the Shana Bei system. Not one of them so far has counted toward the assignment.

Among my other weeklies for reinforcement systems, selling rares, transporting power commodities, collecting escape pods, hacking holoscreens, scanning wakes and scanning megaships aren't counting. Killing rival power members in Acquisition systems is not counting towards the goal either.

That leaves me one assignment left to try, which is collecting bounties in Reinforcement systems. I'm not going to stick my neck out hugely here, but I'm going to say that won't work either.

They need to get to grips with this.

IMHO each power should have some different commodities requested for reinforcements [not more than 2 or 3], with quantities and prices related to system status. I'd likely include these under "power contact" instead of having these on the market so that BGS wouldn't be affected by such trading activity.

I know it's going to add complexity, but may be an example helps: i.e. Delaine systems want slaves & narcotics, a better price is set for those commodities as well as a cycle demanded amount and both are based on current system status (exploited/fortified/stronghold) and the merits earned are not calculated on transaction profits but on the quantity delivered comparing the price to average galactic price (so the merits are irrespective of effective profits and price manipulation via BGS states wouldn't be possible anymore).

Yeah ngl realizing that strategically manipulating the BGS can seriously impact the ability to take or defend a system has been a major headache dealing with the last few weeks.

You know, once again I find myself wishing that Frontier hadn't castrated their Economic Sim during Premium Beta, all because some players wanted to fly large and expensive ships, but didn't have the skills necessary to maintain them. My current strategy would not be sustainable if we had the original Economic Sim, rather than the one we have today.

Your rep with the faction alters the amount they ask for.
I mention that because I have had the lowest or second lowest rep rank ask me for palladium donations.
I noticed that when they offerd amounts like ~20 or ~40 then when I level the rep it became more until it capped out at 72 and 108.
Which is great as thats 8k merits for 108.

Finding somewhere that offers the missions (donations) is a pain.
I did my searching based on the ingame "Produced by" and "Consumed by" thats mentioned in the market blurb and on inara I think which takes the blurb from ingame.

Palladium

Produced by: Extraction
Consumed by: All except Agri, Refinery, Extraction and Military

The all ecept part is a wierd way of putting it.

The bad things Ive notice are that War, Outbreaks etc mean that the Factions in said states ask for items related to those states (weapons or medcines or food). I havent really notinced any state that asks for metals. I think its just based on the Station ecconomy - Faction Ecconomy and a none state.
This is all just guess work though :)

I really shoudl proof read these this is like the 10th edit :)

One thing Inara will never tell you is what commodities various economies will generate missions for “normally.” There’s plenty of donation missions out there where you can make 1200 to 1800 merits for 108 tons of cargo, and of course pure credit donation missions don’t require any effort to complete.

I’ve been following this strategy almost from the start, and I’ve been averaging about 13 kilo-merits per hour, all of which are used strategically, just from being familiar with what the “normal” mission commodities are from years of BGS work.

Greetings Commanders,

We have identified an issue where certain actions are being excessively used for Powerplay gains.

In order to investigate and resolve this issue we are temporarily suspending Powerplay gains via the following methods:
  • Rare Goods Trading
  • Settlement Data Delivery This is now enabled
  • Escape Pods
Once we have resolved this issue these options will be enabled again.

Thank you for your continued reports and feedback on Powerplay 2.0.

Dear Frontier Development Team,

Good morning, good day and good evening.

I am writing as a dedicated player and supporter of Elite Dangerous, particularly its Powerplay mechanics. I appreciate your continued efforts to maintain balance and fairness within the game, especially regarding the recent changes introduced in Powerplay 2.0.
However, I would like to express my concern regarding the temporary suspension of Powerplay gains from Rare Goods Trading and Escape Pods, announced on November 19, 2024. While I understand the need to address issues related to these mechanics, it has now been almost two months without any further updates or resolutions.
This prolonged suspension has created a noticeable disadvantage for Powers with the Social Ethos, as they rely heavily on these activities to effectively participate in Powerplay. This imbalance affects both gameplay and the overall experience for players supporting these Powers.
I kindly request a status update on the evaluation process and whether we can expect a resolution soon. Re-enabling these activities—or providing an interim solution—would be greatly appreciated by the community, as it would restore balance and allow affected Powers to compete fairly again.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued dedication to improving Elite Dangerous. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Adding the issue tracker link for those still frustrated this not being fixed or any update on progress.

This update has highlighted several things that are rather annoying with regards to SRVs.

See, I would LIKE to be able to do powerplay odyssey settlement things with an SRV, especially for the bigger settlements that often have long walks between two different groups of buildings. Logically this would be a good place to use them.

Unfortunately, it takes 6-8 seconds of black screen on either end, getting in and getting out. This means that you instantly lose around 160 meters of walking distance trying to use the SRV, which is already quite wonky to drive around obstacles. Now, at max speed this only takes about 4 seconds to overcome, but most settlements aren't much more than ~300m across, so by the time you've spent the time getting into and out of your SRV, you've already sacrificed at least 2/3rds of the benefit. When you account for all the finnicky business running to and from the SRV, that part goes away, too, and it almost never is worth doing, even in the most ideal of cases.

Then, when you get out of the SRV each time, it takes away anything you may have intentionally put in your pack, including e-breaches and malware. So not only do you waste ~16 seconds in black screens, you then need to navigate the menu to find whatever you had put in your pack before - and when your storage gets even moderately full, this can take quite a while, as you cannot grab the scroll bar with your mouse.

Atop this, the presence of the SRV seems to create a nonzero amount of framerate lag. I have a 4070 and many odyssey settlements are still quite sluggish when they really shouldn't be.

The net result is, despite my best wishes, using an SRV is basically non-viable at the moment. With all the black screens, menu fiddling, and lag, it is never actually going to speed you up, only slow you down.

It would be nice to see these things given a look.

I've stopped playing elite because of powerplay 2.0. It's impossible to do anything now without getting jumped by npcs. Picking up escape pods in a low threat zone and I get jumped by 5 npc ships. I'll never play this game again.

If you don't want to go to war, collect capsules at the Power wreckage point where only your Power is written.
