Not sure i saw your reasons, perhaps it was part of your "rantings"
But for sure, i can fully understand why PvP isn't so popular in ED.
Two main factors i see:
Its more attractive as a PvE game, therefore no surprise that a majority of players are either fully focused on the PvE or just take PvP as and when it happens. Unless FD completely changed the game, it will remain a game that atracts those who prefer PvE, so PvEers will likely remain the majority.
Its (in my opinion), a pretty crap game for PvP. There are tons of better games out there for PvP. I can kind of understand those who play ED with a focus on PvE but enjoy the PvP when it happens. But to dedicate yourself to PvP in ED to me seems like a rather strange case of masochism. What I want from a PvP game is no PvP downtime due to PvE requirements (no need for rebuys, no need to build up stuff) and balance between players, so the only differentiation is experience and skill... not how many hours you have spent engineering or because you have the latest meta ship or whatever.
Examples of good PvP games:
Shooters: Counterstrike, Team Fortress, GTA (when the mode is selected so nobody can bring their own stuff in), Fortnite, Paladins, Overwatch (hey, you seen they added a PvE mode now?).
Racing: GTA (again, when using default cars only - otherwise you always get those who have souped up high end cars winning all the time), Colin McRae Rally, Wipeout (yeah, its been a while since i did PvP racing).... oh yeah, Demolision Derby was a classic.
Strategy: Well, just about most of them. Starcraft, Command and Conquer, Dune, Age of Empires, etc. The list goes on and on.
And some in other genres as well.
You have games like Ark, ED, WoW, etc, where they do mix PvP and PvE. Many stop the inevitable issues by creating separate PvP and PvE servers. That's not going to happen in ED, we have a single shared universe, and i understand this is a reason why some PvPers don't like it. But it is the way it is, and its something we have to live with.
So, let's focus on looking at ways to improve the game for as many people as possible, without taking things away from those who are currently happy.
