Elite: Dangerous Slang Dictionary and creator.

Beagling, or is that to obtuse?

being overtaken in the docking queue "to be linda'd' overtaking in the queue 'to do a Linda '

this term is believed to come from 20th century USA regarding Blue Bayou by Linda Rondstadt.

'Nigel' - derogatory term for any pilot of a passenger ship, circa London heathrow from 1950 to 2050.

Speedbird

Suicide Bomber: Someone who shoot a Player's ship inside a station, hoping it will trigger his victim's Point Defence, causing the station to destroy both of them.

Sorry, new to this thread but loving it :)

Can't wait to hear tales such as the following ...

I was in the Mosh Pit with this Paint Sniffer firing his Jim Beams at my Six and decided to do a Rincewind. Performed the Loop of Shame and ended up Popping Zits with my crew outside Leesti. We finally Lanced The Boil just as some Jameson Delboy got caught in the Toast Rack and sparked off a Black Disco.

Really like this idea. I have a few colloquials for you below.

Jameson: A rookie pilot. "Almost got toasted by a Jameson coming out of Lave station too fast. Lucky I was flying a sidey and could get out the way."

That's not the definition in the official fiction. Excerpt from Lave Revolution below:

Lave Revolution said:
‘Acknowledged,’ Renner leaned back in the seat. ‘You kept this girl nice. Got yourself a Jameson.’
‘What do you mean?’ Gebrial asked.
‘Means, Renner likes the boat,’ Pietro said. ‘Jameson was an old Cobra pilot back a couple of hundred years ago. He kitted out a good ship and went all the way to Elite.’
‘To us that means something,’ said Renner.

A couple more for you:

Lave Revolution said:
‘Unless you've been for a body shave on Quince a few days ago, you're not Kel.’

Body shave Means complete body plastic surgery.

Dataslate is the accepted term for a tablet, ipad, etc.

Duraglass is a term for manufactured glass/perspex in spaceships.

You can also call a ship a s*** (four letter word begins with 's', implies promiscuity and trips up the forum filter), see below:

Lave Revolution said:
‘Kel ran a finger over the wing tip of the Cobra, leaving a smudge on the corner. ‘Bet she’s a s***; all preening on the outside and a bad ride inside.’

I'll see if I can dig out more from my consistency edit of the fiction.

One from other MMO's but it's definitely a thing in Elite too - "farming tears".

e.g. "This griefer was farming tears by destroying fully loaded Asps with dumbfires just as they were touching down at Leesti."

We also need a phrase for firing into a spacestation from outside, how about "Junk Mailing" (derived from posting unwanted stuff through a letterbox).

Rats - Derogatory name for pirates, as in "They 'dicted me outside Lave, but man I popped those Rats soemthing sweet!"
Rat's Nest - Home system or station to a group of "rats", usually in Anarchy space.

"Butt Clencher"
To throw every last credit into a cargo run knowing ship destruction will land you into a Sidewinder :)

How about:

HIPSTER - surveyor who only waypoints and survey's HIP systems, as in : "Just heading off to HIP 85141,HIP 86420,HIP 86222,HIP 87729,HIP 87642,HIP 87829"

A suggested addition to "Shake and Bake"- firing ones weapon systems to the point of overload. Alternatively, firing on a number of targets greater than one to get their intention with the intent of destroying them all. (Usually leads to Mooning.)

Black, The - An area of visible space that is not obscured by light scatter or visual phenomena, i.e. "dark" space. Used as navigation slang, usually for a visible point where Frameshift can be activated safely. Exp: "Burn for the Black", meaning to break for open empty space away from danger prior to a jump.

Thought of this one yesterday while fighting in a resource belt against Anaconda's and miner NPC's were being killed >.>

Melon Farmer: A groundling, a planet dweller. Nobody knows what a melon is. "Had to take this Melon Farmer in a suit to LV246. He wouldn't talk about it. Gave me the creeps."

This originated from the TV cut of the rather excellent Repo Man, Melon Farmer was used/dubbed in place of mother ******. Gives a bit more of a harder edge to the use of the phrase!

meep throat, to - The act of quickly leaving Lovelace Dock, BD-11 5484. (Only applies here, because the same system has Freud Orbital.)

Battle Cow: a Lakon Type 9 outfitted for combat, usually with an oversized shield generator, shield cells, and multiple weapon turrets. Surprisingly dangerous if angered: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=118060

Hood ornament: Trader term for a tiny ship, such as a Sidewinder or Eagle, that's too impatient to let an approaching freighter get clear of the toast rack before trying to squeeze through. "My space cow got another hood ornament on the way in. Don't these idiots realise I can't dodge them?"

Star Trumpet:
the Discovery Scanner. See also Foghorn.

"Battle cow" and "star trumpet" are ones I've seen on the forums, and I thought they deserved inclusion.
