News Elite: Dangerous Steam Keys

ok i have my steam key for Horizons, why is the game showing zero hours of play when ive accumalted over 450 on ED with the original Steam key.
Is there anyway to transfer hours over to the Horizons game on steam?

Thanks, i think i will just unlink it from steam altogether then.

This is what I've done and will probably not relink. There's no reason to have it in Steam unless you like logging your time played (for me anyway). There is no real functionality in Steam other than their joke of a forum and the ability to instantly upload screenshots after your session. Not sure why I wanted it linked in the first place...

I liked it for the hours i have played, thats about it really. Xfire used to do the same if you remember.

Does anyone know if we actually need to have both the steam client for Elite: Dangerous and Horizons installed?

Sorry for the noob question here, but I haven't played since before all of the powerplay stuff came in! Horizons has awoken the desire to go explore some space in me, but to make sure I don't forget about Elite, I wanted to play through Steam. If I install via Steam and uninstall my original copy, will I still have my skins etc?

For me it was the lightning-fast CDN when the updates were rolling in thick and fast. Steam's servers could max out my 100Mbps connection while Frontier's own were providing little more than a trickle. It was literally minutes versus hours of download time for most patches, especially the version changes.

To be fair things seem to have improved a lot in the last year. The (non-Steam) Horizons beta updates were delivered very quickly indeed compared with earlier versions. The biggest benefit of Steam now is the integrated browser overlay which is handy for running trading tools, but I could live without that.

For those concerned about the played hours count, I think I read somewhere that FD are liaising with Valve to have those combined in some way. Of course as with many things Frontier Forum related, I can't find it again... :(

Yes, because all that stuff is held on Frontier's servers. It doesn't matter whether the game is launched via Steam or the downloaded launcher.

Personally, I use Steam because of the in-home streaming, Steam VR, and a few other things. There's a lot of reasons to use Steam these days.

Yeah, Xfire and now Raptr/ AMD Gaming Evolved. I'd rather have it in game, though. Those applications are too unreliable if you're looking for actual time played with my experience, anyway.

All good points. I don't trade often, but I can see how the browser in-game overlay would be beneficial.

Didn't I see a post somewhere that they were adding time played to your statistics pane in your cockpit?

Elite Dangerous is now on sale on Steam - 50% discount - so only £9.99.

Looking at the store page, "Recent updates" includes information about Horizons 2.0.02. So anybody unfamiliar with the game would reasonably assume that Horizons is included. That is of course not the case - Horizons is still full price:

I think FD should put a massive disclaimer at the top of the old Elite (1.5) page, that this does not include planetary landing.

I noticed that it added CQC play time, but not 'Open' play time. Did I just look past it?
I think it's the combined play time for everything, it just appears under whatever category of activity you have listed last. For one of my CMDRs, who has never played CQC outside of beta, the time is shown below the Exploration statistics because there are none for CQC. For my other CMDR, who's done a bit of CQC, the time is shown below the CQC stats.

I've just linked my account to steam so that I can leave a review and possibly join a steam player group. Although it seems obvious that any future DLC purchase made through steam would give them a cut it seems insane that this should also apply to a purchase made on the frontier store ! did I actually read that bit right ?

Does this all still work? I'm looking on the store page and for the life of me I cannot find the partner keys section. Just returning to the game after a very long time and since all my friends playing now are steam linked, looking to get that going too.

Edit:

Found it. For those searching, it's on the side links list in your account view, towards the bottom.

When I choose Sign In through STEAM after choosing Partner Keys, it doesn't work.
With IE 10, the page simply reloads and does nothing.
With Firefox 45, I get transferred to the steamcommunity.com/openid/login site and when I choose to Sign In, I get brought right back to the Partner Keys site.

anyone else see this circular frustration?

Yeah, same issue here on Chrome 48.0.2564 as you had on Firefox, just redirected back to the Partner Key site after signing on with the option to sign on again..
Please have a look at this FD :)
