Except, if that's what Ed actually meant (even though he doesn't specifically address that part of the quote), then he's completely contradicting himself (opening post)
I can't see no "Partner Keys" nor any "Claim an Elite: Dangerous key" in my account dashboard. How do I get this?

It's not really a contradiction, it just really reads as though the op was written in a rush. As other people have taken the time to read it, it does tie in a bit. Where a lot of the later confusion appears to have come from is where English isn't a first language.

It's missing for me as well. Are you using Chrome?
Apparently from the few posts I've read about this, using Opera for some reason has helped people.
Are you using Chrome? Users have had issue with Chrome. Also, you need to log into the Store. Try clicking on "Buy Elite Dangerous" or use this link to the store:

I was redirected almost immediately and told to log in with Steam, but Chrome didn't work so I used Safari. I've heard Firefox and Opera work as well. In your account, you should see partner keys.

I was using Chrome. But I just tried with Firefox and still nothing :S
EDIT: Oh, yeah now I got "Partner keys" on Firefox.
That's nuts. It should be notified that it doesn't work with Chrome... or better yet, get fixed

Try Opera if you have it. In any event, it's likely to work better once the overall load settles down from the initial rush.

You'll likely be prompted to log into Steam at that point. Steam may or may not ask you to verify your machine via an email if it's not one Steam already recognizes (security). My Steam email confirmation took seconds. I was then redirected back to the Store page, where I got my activation key.
At that point, I inputed that activation key via Steams menu bar:
Games -> Activate a product on Steam...
and followed the prompts from there.

There is one other advantage. When you change your computer and it comes time to download the program again because you deleted it, intentionally or not. Steam gives you the advantage of remembering all of your activation codes for you and the links to the downloads. I have some games from different providers and it can be a bit bothersome to have to log on to a site that you haven't used in 12 months and they start asking for passwords that you have forgotten. With Steam you only have to remember one account name and password and they worry about the rest.
Don't you still have to log in in the launcher?
He could be referring to product IDs and activation codes. When your games are on Steam, you only need to log in once (if you don't just autolog at boot up) and boom, there's all your stuff. No need to hunt around finding anything. It's quite convenient. Your entire library, waiting, at your fingertips. Crashes, failed hard drives, or amnesia be danged.
If you like DRM free, there's also the Humble Store, which rocks pretty hard because they'll supply their DRM free version AND a Steam key for Steam's version. Those guys rock.

Yes. But you may want to find you config file with your settings if you have a HOTAS like I do. I've got mine set up juuuuust right, and don't feel like doing it again.

I changed my PW for ED recently, and I had issues with my store password being different. I think the store is it's whole own thing. Not sure. But you need to log in to that to get the key.
