News Elite: Dangerous Steam Keys

This may have already been asked somewhere, but will the ED Updates, when using the steam client, download via the steam servers, or will it work the same as it does atm for non-steam users?

I figured it out. Another post said to open in IE, log into steam and then log into store while in IE. When I did that, the partner keys option showed up. After that I linked my ED account with Steam, and it gave me the option to generate a Steam key. I now have it added to my Steam account.

Hmm tried what was suggested but can't find this partner key option in either IE or firefox. I tried keeping steam open but don't think that helps. Maybe just an intermittent issue?

Hmm, now where do I find my configurations at? Started looking but I'm not seeing a clear "right" folder or file.

Woof, I'm not home yet but I'm bored and stuck where I am at so, I googled something for you.

http://gaming.stackexchange.com/que...-the-file-elite-dangerous-stores-the-controls

This individual feels like you can find them here:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\
There are 2 files of interest: "Custom.binds" and "StartPreset.start"

If someone who knows for sure wants to pipe up, it would probably be appreciated. Someone reminded me to grab my bindings in this forum today and I thought that was some love worthy to spread.

If people are not seeing the "Partner Keys" link or seeing a white page then delete all your cookies for *.elitedangerous.com and try logging in again.

I think you do need to re-download it, because Steam installs games in its folder. Perhaps there's a way to link the existing install folder, but I'm not sure.

You can copy the files and Steam will validate and use them whilst installing.

Default installation location of main game files folder on non-Steam Version:

Code:
%localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1000
(The number 1000 at the end of this path may be different depending on when you purchased)

  • FORC-FDEV-D-1010 - Elite: Dangerous
  • FORC-FDEV-D-1008 - Elite: Dangerous - Gamma
  • FORC-FDEV-D-1003 - Elite: Dangerous - Mercenary Edition
  • FORC-FDEV-D-1002 - Elite: Dangerous - Beta
  • FORC-FDEV-D-1001 - Elite: Dangerous - Premium Beta
  • FORC-FDEV-D-1000 - Elite: Dangerous - Alpha

The default Steam installation location should be:
Code:
[whatever root you've defined]\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010

So essentially copy the main game files directory to [whatever root you've defined]\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products and if necessary rename it FORC-FDEV-D-1010 and you should be good to go.

NOTE: If you have the COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO and PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER folders copy them to [whatever root you've defined]\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products too.

(COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO is part of the Steam distribution so if you don't have it you'll still need to download ~1.5GB).

Worked

Cheers

The partner keys option was missing for me but clearing the cookies for store.elitedangerous.com and re-logging in fixed it for me! :) Posting here in case it helps.

For some reason I now have 2 versions in my install directory, both basically the same size. The "1002" Beta version and the "1010" release version.

Entire Elite folder is now taking up 12+ GB (I have the public test server as well)

No, if you migrate to Steam, they get their retail portion of your future skin sales.

Hmm, just saw this after skimming the thread again. I think I'll stick with you guys so the little extra purchases I make go fully to the game's future development. Thanks for giving players this option!

Thank you Frontier

Not that it matters to anyone, but a big thank you to Frontier for making this happen. I just bought a skin pack from the Frontier store that I never would have bought otherwise, then generated my key and registered it on Steam.

Thanks for listening to your fans and letting us play the way we choose. :)

This. It's normal procedure for Valve to take a cut off all sales that happen *through their storefront*, not from a dev's storefront, there the dev gets a 100%. This is pretty much exactly what's stated in the official statement made here on the topic.

Yet, instead of going with that, people are basing everything on Ed's response to a quote, where he wasn't even addressing that part of the quote but something else entirely. And yet somehow, even though it contradicts his opening post entirely, the interpretation that Valve takes 30% off all future sales has to be the truth. The mods ran with it, and everyone else since has ran with the mods statements.

A while ago I bought The Secret World and activated it on Steam. It requires an account at Funcom in the same way that Elite requires an account at Frontier.
I logged into my Funcom account to purchase £5 of Funcom points with my credit card and was informed that I couldn't buy them, instead I would have to put funds in my Steam wallet and purchase them that way. This is part of the reason why I happen to think once the 2 accounts are linked, transactions are liable for Valve's cut.

Thanks Frontier

Yes. Thanks Frontier. This works gloriously.

For those hoping for a more seamless transition by retaining their key bindings:

C:\Users\<your name here>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

The Custom.binds file

Thanks, grunchlk.

You take that custom.binds and drop it in here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010\ControlSchemes

Then, when you boot up the game for the first time, and it adjust itself, go to your controls and swap it from keyboard/mouse (default?) to Custom.

Everything works perfectly.

I am a very satisfied customer. Can't wait to spread the love, and lasers, on Steam.

Just logged in via the steam launcher for the first time. Was a little worried it reset all my settings when it asked me to type in a verification code but my settings are in tact. Thanks agian for making this happen Frontier, will definitly be taking time to write a review on steam now that I got the key and can write one.
