I logged into the store, but the partner key entry does not show up for me. I've tried on both Firefox and IE. I bought my ED through the store here BEFORE they released it on Steam.
Hmm, now where do I find my configurations at? Started looking but I'm not seeing a clear "right" folder or file.
I think you do need to re-download it, because Steam installs games in its folder. Perhaps there's a way to link the existing install folder, but I'm not sure.
%localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1000
[whatever root you've defined]\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010
I figured it out. Another post said to open in IE, log into steam and then log into store while in IE. When I did that, the partner keys option showed up. After that I linked my ED account with Steam, and it gave me the option to generate a Steam key. I now have it added to my Steam account.
If people are not seeing the "Partner Keys" link or seeing a white page then delete all your cookies for *.elitedangerous.com and try logging in again.
You can copy the files and Steam will validate and use them whilst installing.
Default installation location of main game files folder on non-Steam Version:
(The number 1000 at the end of this path may be different depending on when you purchased)Code:%localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1000
- FORC-FDEV-D-1010 - Elite: Dangerous
- FORC-FDEV-D-1008 - Elite: Dangerous - Gamma
- FORC-FDEV-D-1003 - Elite: Dangerous - Mercenary Edition
- FORC-FDEV-D-1002 - Elite: Dangerous - Beta
- FORC-FDEV-D-1001 - Elite: Dangerous - Premium Beta
- FORC-FDEV-D-1000 - Elite: Dangerous - Alpha
The default Steam installation location should be:
Code:[whatever root you've defined]\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010
So essentially copy the main game files directory to [whatever root you've defined]\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products and if necessary rename it FORC-FDEV-D-1010 and you should be good to go.
NOTE: If you have the COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO and PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER folders copy them to [whatever root you've defined]\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products too.
(COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO is part of the Steam distribution so if you don't have it you'll still need to download ~1.5GB).
No, if you migrate to Steam, they get their retail portion of your future skin sales.
This. It's normal procedure for Valve to take a cut off all sales that happen *through their storefront*, not from a dev's storefront, there the dev gets a 100%. This is pretty much exactly what's stated in the official statement made here on the topic.
Yet, instead of going with that, people are basing everything on Ed's response to a quote, where he wasn't even addressing that part of the quote but something else entirely. And yet somehow, even though it contradicts his opening post entirely, the interpretation that Valve takes 30% off all future sales has to be the truth. The mods ran with it, and everyone else since has ran with the mods statements.
