Elite Dangerous, the DK2 and SLI discussion thread.

Need help from my SLI 980 brothers!

I hope I am not the only one. I am an oculus 980 sli user and everything works great in the normal game. in cqc beta in solo during long super cruise my FPS is dropping badly but only after I have been in super cruise for a while on long runs. This only happens in the beta. if this is working fine for other 980 sli users please share your NVidia driver version and graphics settings. this is driving me nuts.

Yes. have been for nearly 8 months. Despite what you read here a lot of us have had no problems using SLi in vr especially 980 users. I get about an extra 20fps than using a single card. until this beta that is.

Am also using an 980 SLI combo in one of my rigs and didnt have any issues until the latest update. Havent tested what you describe as ive been playing CQC but am getting mad stutter on loading screens... In game is fine though. On holiday at the moment but will test further when i get back. Good luck! :)

Just a side note... Nvidia driver updates always disable SLI, so just check first its actually enabled... Though im sure you already know this :)

On the beta I was getting very bad stutter flying close to planets which would then continue after I had flown away from the planet.
As soon as I dropped out of hyperspace it was good again.
Actually beta is running faster for me I think but with this issue as a whole its worse..

Same here. i noticed i got horrible stutter on long stints in supercruise . aka Dalton gateway. ;even if planets were no where near. if i drop and resume supercruise its great for about 5 minutes than starts doing the stutter thing again unless i drop and reengage suerpcruise.

SLI and ED

Afternoon, I'm currently running with a single Nvidia 980Ti for my DK2.

My question is simple, is it worth getting another one and running SLI for ED or is SLI support not yet there enough to make it worth the expense?

I'm basically hoping a second 980Ti would enable me to run with higher GFX quality settings, x2.0+ SS and still have rock solid 75fps.

I get that too. Not sure if it has always been that way or if it is a feature of the latest version of ED, Nvidia drivers, or what.

I don't think its worth it right now if you are buying it just for the DK2 and ED.
I'm far from an expert, but as I understand it. Nvidia have only just added VR support to their drivers. To take advantage of the new driver support the game has to be tweaked to take advantage of the new functionality. Essentially, each graphics card will be able to power a screen. In the case of the DK2 there is only one screen so not sure what benefits it will bring there. Either way, ED isn't ready for SLI and VR just yet.

I'm sitting on the money for another 970, so if someone has a better answer.

That's what I suspected. I too will wait for better support. I'm not much of a PC gamer and built up my rig just to play ED essentially. Crazy I know.

I was always a console person. Like you I converted to a PC just for ED.
Built a PC, bought a hotas, dk2, filled a steam account with discount games and humble bundle specials.
12 months later, the only game my PC has seen is ED

SLI bumps your fps up about 30% in 1.3 right now. in 1.4 beta its broken. I run 980 sli all the time with dk2 as do several others on here.

I run 970s SLI with the DK2 and haven't had any issues. I haven't tried 1.4 beta yet though. I can tell when my system hiccups and turns SLI off though, it doesn't take long to notice the drop.

I've got a pair of 980Ti's and I find the experience to be worse with SLI turned on. I feel like there is a higher frametime which makes me feel ill. Can anyone suggest settings that might alleviate this?

I've put a few threads together on ED and SLI together, hopefully there may be some info in here that will help. :)

Anyone got any updates on this?

The increased latency seems to affect some and not others. With the latest drivers to date, is this still an issue?

I completely got rid of my 2nd card. I found SLI to be problematic and I'm having a much better experience with just one gtx 980.

I had 2x 970's and at first I didn't really see the issues some people talked about, but as time went on and as I got more used to the DK2 I started to see a hint of latency here and there. decided to sell the 970's in the end and opted for a single Titan X and never looked back since.
