It’s hard to take your dismissal as being made in good faith. It’s much the same as many CGs in that the motivation is largely based on having an Outcome in the game world. The global reward is the construction of a space station.well they got payed at the very moment when they delivered the individual goods/shipments and there are no global rewards, so that argument is a little short-sighted.
If frontier had canceled their most recent CG and said:
“actually nah we’re not going to ever have those construction megaships after all, but you all got your money so no harm no foul”
It would be widely understood as a problem. Some people might forgive such a choice, but if it became an ongoing pattern where at any time a CG might have the outcome cancelled by the devs last second? It would kill the whole premise for most people and participation would collapse.
Haulers can trade goods for cash at a profit in a million different ways. All the payouts do for Construction Sites is offset the inconvenience and opportunity cost of picking this over that The prize is participation in Building something, plus permanent recognition on a leaderboard if you contribute enough.
You want an undo button which undoes other people’s work. It would have to come with commensurate solutions for those impacted by a decision over which they get no say, and a corresponding obligation/responsibility on the part of the person making such a unilateral and arbitrary decision.
I can think of mechanisms to do this, but:
1) you wouldn’t like them
2) they would be much harder to implement compared to just not allowing system architects the option.
