Elite Dangerous | Update 19.02 - 28 November 2024

The key from my perspective would be to encourage undermining not specifically as a Strategic Goal for the Official Unofficial Community Leaders but as the more likely action than reinforcing for CMDR Jane Player who's just having fun getting merits, flying about, playing the game, etc. and has no expectation of getting into the top 10% on their power's leaderboard.

The Power you're pledged to should give rewards for successful undermining, maybe a much bigger version of the mini-care package?

yeah - I liked your idea about 'top picks' (like they had to add for the Thargoid War) so that people at least have a clue. Undermining seeming to be intrinsically more dangerous (well, a bit), but less rewarding is also an issue.

The main issue with undermining for me, besides the whole less merits for the same actions thing, is the lack of synergy with my “normal” game loop:

Drop into Power WreckagePick up "wreckage" for merits at next station, and hope an enemy shows up. If they do, you can kill them after scannning them or if they attack you first..Pick up "wreckage" that needs to be taken to a friendly system, and hope an enemy doesn't show up. Killing them would be a crime unless they attack you first.
Drop into non-Power USSHope for an enemy to show up, because they'll be an easy kill (not a crime)Can't kill an easy kill that shows up, because I need to stay clean

The funny thing is we are not far away from an 'ideal' system- FD need to copy a few more Goid War features and you are there. The last piece is IMO making crime (i.e. murder) the top option for rapid undermining (akin to 2.x BGS days) since current punishments level things out, and that you then leverage existing BGS security and ATR (from a PvE context).

That way, you can then undermine at your pace- legally and slowly, or rapidly and illegally.
Crime is pretty powerful already. Ba Xian had more than 120k in a week.

Destruction/undermining should always pay less than building/creating something.

I agree that at the very least the average credits per hour with risk and reward factored in should be better for "Honest work" but I think piracy and other illegal methods should have a much higher chance of big windfalls, to go along with that risk.

I confirmed on my 2nd account that Type-8 is for sale now after 19.02 update. If odyssey, we can buy Type-8 by in-game Credits.

Murder from a BGS perspective has been nerfed several times into the floor- the issue with PP2 murder (as part of crime) is that its punished hard and rewards very little. So for millions in bounties you gain 40 odd merits, compared to nearly x8 more for doing less.

It looks like probes won't work on rings now - can anyone else confirm this?

EDIT: Seems to be okay, probably human error :)
