Elite Dangerous Update 7 Progress

Elite 2.0 with fresh code... wonder if they could do it!
Of course they can do it. But there are two flavours:

1) They spend a decade of development to get an ED2 with the features of ED1.
2) They release a bare-bones ED2 that isn't even close to what ED offers.

People tend to forget just how insanely much there is in ED, and how much time it would cost to get even close. Personally, neither option sounds very appealing to me, and the first one is financially unsustainable anyway.

I just wanna apologise to Commanders, friends and family - to anyone at all that has tried to contact me outside of this thread today, my absolute life :')
This might be the most depressing aspect of this whole thread. It's a simple one-week delay, well explained and justified in the OP, and you even created a dedicated thread so it didn't get lost as just a footnote in the Community Schedule post. A few clarifying questions would have been understandable, but instead we have a thread chock full of speculation and bellyaching that's distracted you - for a whole day - from the much more valuable things you'd otherwise planned to spend today smashing through.

If I wore a hat I'd doff it in your direction Sally, not just for the things you do but for the (almost) endless amount of patience you exhibit whilst doing them. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a several magazines of AR50 rounds with Kumo Council written on them I need to deliver (centre mass at high speed).

Already explained. See the Dev quotes.
The explanation is illogical at best and specious at worst. "Let's delay a patch to include a fix that isn't going to fix anything currently active in-game". The current CG will be over when the patch is released. Delay the next CG instead. ...if there's even one scheduled.

Always good to seem people arguing against bugs being fixed - top foruming (y)

Delay a patch for ALL players to appease the, infinitesimally, small percentage of players who participate in a "storyline". There are, according to FDEV themselves, 500,000 monthly active players of Elite. There are 2,129 players participating in the current CG. That's 0.4258% of the player population. Genius-level, albeit disingenuous, logic.

What possible difference does the 1 week patch delay make?

That isnt really the point. Basically you are delying needed fixes for another needed fix instead of pumping out fixes asap. See previous comment
Which is surely entirely sensible, considering fdev do not issue updates and patches every week. It does seem to make sense to wait a week so that something they deem important can be added, rather than waiting to bundle it in to a later patch?

My main point to MCCART is simply ... shrug. 1 week, it's not really a problem, is it?

That's actually what got me excited for the Beyond updates. Not the new features or gameplay, but a major internal refactoring of the code. That's what I took was happening - sadly, that didn't appear to be the case. :(
That makes 2 of us...

a couple of years of refactoring along with some light cookies. Ok I can get behind that. Or back in 2017 I could.
