I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Indeed, having played with one myself I can attest to the lightness and comfort of the unit, but I can also attest to the rapid onset of vertigo and motion sickness. Having your brain telling you that you're moving but your inner ear and body telling you the contrary has knocked every single person that I've seen use it on their ass. For games that are designed to be used with oculus it's far less 'affecting' than for games that aren't - i.e. Halflife and Skyrim will mess with you far more than DCS-A10, Rise of Flight or Cliff of Dover. I suspect that Elite D will fall into the latter category of being somewhat easier to deal with than FPS... except for the FPS bits LOL

Agreed. I tried it for a few minutes with Half Life 2 and couldn't stand it. That said I hadn't adjusted the unit for my own eyes at all, so maybe that was part of it. I do think that it's far better suited to cockpit games than FPS.

No you are right, I could only cope with about 20 minutes on HL2 for the first try.
I can usually do a couple of hours now however, you seem to acclimatize to it.

Currently playing War Thunder with the Rift and my X52 flight stick.
E: D is going to rock on this set-up :p:cool:

So the more you play the better in other words...hmmm

"But honey...you see...I absolutely MUST play ED a lot...you don't want me to feel sick do you?"

Yeah, that might work!! :D

And the effects on the metabolism and the mental, health on the long-term ? And the neuro-oculars disorders, already evoked by experts for the 3D glasses. Before, break my health, the brain and the eyes, I want to see the commercial version, the size (at least as glasses), the weight, the price, and the reading of reports of medical experts on the long-term for the health.

:(
Long term effects on health must by definition take a long time to be reported on by genuine medical experts. It will be a long wait.

I remember something similar being said about eye laser surgery for myopia years ago. Truthful experts said only time would tell whether there would be long term ill effects from otherwise successful operations.

OR seems, by comparison, to be a far less risky venture on the face of it.

Maybe one if these will help...

Absolutely! :D I do that already with this forum. :p

I think the Oculus team were looking to hire a neuroscientist at one point, so they are quite serious about reducing any ill effects.

so they are quite serious about reducing any ill effects.

Of course, it is in their interests. But I am quite shocked by your comments. It is not to reduce but to remove completely. For my part, I will not use a machine that will present a potential danger, however small, especially for to play ...

We rely on you in order to test for a few months ...

:p

Do not think that I am against the Rift. But when I read this thread, I see, eyestrain, "Having your brain telling you that you're moving but your inner ear and body telling you the contrary", vertigo, nausea. Helmet on his head, high price. Not really at the moment, I do not want to be a guinea pigs.

Motion sickness is temporary and no different from that experienced while in a car or on a ship. It's not something you need to worry about unless you are one of those rare but unfortunate people who take a day to recover from seasickness, in which case avoid sea travel and OR alike.

I get pukey if I try to read while being driven in a car, and I once got icky years ago when stuck in the middle of a big ship. I will have a suitable container close by for my first few tries with the OR, but as long as I'm not affected by too much cockpit infrastructure I think it will be something I can get used to.

You have to use your own mind, and logic, too... it's just a screen and a couple of lenses. The whole issue of sickness is no real difference from regular motion sickness. It's not like someone on a boat suddenly has issues in other parts of their life. There's reasonable precaution and then there's paranoia! I guess you don't use a mobile phone for fear of the radiation affecting your brain, or keep one in your pocket because of fears of sterility then? ;)

I can testify, as someone who does not like cockpit view on regular monitors, that this issue is not there (for me) with the Rift. Because you're getting a true depth representation of things it's like the difference between driving a real car and playing a driving game (in cockpit mode) on a normal 2D monitor.

That is exactly what I'm hoping for, so thank you! Very encouraging to hear that's your experience :)
