Elite: Harmless - Karma System aka "be the Tamagotchi" - FRESH SALT, MINED RIGHT HERE

Honestly the whole hyperbole ladened viewpoint of some of you PVP guys is hilarious to behold. 'my god, it can't be a cutthroat galaxy with a karma and/or c&p system in place, any said system is going to kill all PVP', seriously, it is only you guys coming out with this nonsense, it's almost as if you have an agenda or something. Guess what, consequences AND a cutthroat galaxy with PVP are not mutually exclusive things, if, (yes it's a big if), Frontier get this right these things can coexist.

Players are all by game design part of the same in-game faction essentially, thus technically other players are not technically "your enemies" in the strictest sense of the term. The fact there are no in-game rewards for killing clean players in the main environment should be a big enough hint.

So what? Are you saying that you're completely unaware of any kind of conflict between humans from the same nation, race, religion or political ideology? Should read a few history books sometime, you'll find them enlightening. People have been attacking and killing other people since the dawn of time for all manner of reasons. Membership of a club doesn't count for squat. People who drive cars in the UK are all "members" of the DVLA "faction", but they still honk at each other, swear at each other, beat each other up and even stab each other.

.... quickly followed by getting arrested, receiving points on their driving licence, being banned from driving, jailed, made to resit their driving test, facing increased insurance premiums, etc.

Good point.

Sandro, can you please start giving us ingame rewards for killing other players so we can just put this line of reasoning to bed? For starters, when a player controlled ship pops there should be a huge shower of materials and data packages. Gold bullion would be nice, too.

Repeat offenders typically get harsher penalties than first time ones too... ergo the rationale for an automated PvP moderation system (e.g. the proposed karma system).

Doesn't have an argument.

Uses a meme.

Just close this thread. It's just a medium for lesser lights who are set on disrupting any kind of debate now.

Not disputing that, assuming they get caught, but to pretend that the pilots federation is some kind of fluffy bunny club where everybody gets along and the pilots never exchange anything other than kind words and cuddles is just nonsense.

That rather depends on whether its management wakes up and starts dealing with internecine conflict, doesn't it?

... and the consequences would not stop hostilities between members. They may, however, make a player think twice about engaging in a particular behaviour again.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be some form of reputation system that gives players reason to think about their actions and how they might be affected by the consequences of them. I'm all for it. It will finally bring some actual, real depth to the game instead of every action being mindless and requiring little to no thought whatsoever. It just seems that a few people have taken the proposed implementation of the karma system as a statement from FD that they won't tolerate non consensual PvP and that's just not the case. At least, I hope that's not the case, it would make for a very dull universe if it were.

The difference being, if we continue the terrible analogy, that its not the police (ingame mechanics) punishing the driver, its god plucking them up and casting them into hell.
