Installed this and setup etc for voice like Eddi voice u get as u jump into a system.
Didn't work! I'm a dumbass
I didn't run Eddi.
Was kinda expecting the same but better voice but silence was what l got.
Obviously I'm doing it wrong..
So should I stick to Eddi or?

Oh I'm in vr always so hence eddi

It sounds like you're looking for an enhanced computer/voice assistant that gives ongoing status updates about what is happening in game. That's not what Observatory does.
I've been considering writing a plugin to do that, but it's a long way off.

M8 that's exactly what eddi does. But not as much detail.. well it can be added too but not sure if you can add what you got .. sorry I'm vague I just fire eddi up and she tells me stuff ingame that's invaluable...
I just don't like swapping to n fro from desktop to hmd ingame.. either a new panel ingame or just a voice 🤔.

Yes, that's what EDDI does. It's not what Observatory does. If you want EDDI's ongoing activity feed then you're limited to the voices EDDI has available, sorry. There isn't currently a way to send EDDI's speech (or anything like it) to Observatory's Herald plugin.

Really enjoying the explorer portion of this tool. Only improvement that I could see helping me is being able to group like items together, such as all high value bodies together. I can click on "Description" and get a sorting arrow either up or down, but it doesnt reshuffle the list around.

Other than that its great, love the options, overlay, and voice ability. Thanks!

I have just installed Observatory and gave it a go, but there's a big flaw .. there are different tabs, how am I suppose to see them while in-game? alt+tab is not possible while in full screen, it messes up all window sizes and desktop icons every time I alt+tab, cuz I have 2 monitors and one is 4k, other is 1080p. I want to have Observatory open on secondary monitor and see everything in one tab, like signal sources, biological findings, exploration ..etc.

Is there a plugin or other way to show everything about the system on one page / tab?

Yes, what Eahlstan said. Borderless improves the experience with basically every third party Elite Dangerous tool.

That said, an option for an "expanded" view where you can see more than one plugin at a time is not a bad idea. I'm in the middle of a pretty significant UI overhaul (which is why things have been a bit quiet), and I think that's definitely worth considering.

...ugh I wish people would stop suggesting borderless mode, it's worst performance killer. I get 10-50% less performance in borderless in any game. borderless is not for gaming, games shouldn't even offer such option. Also on my yesterday's stream I already proved what I said, had 2 game crashes because I alt-tabbed too much. also borderless prevents recording tools from working properly and may "leak" my desktop on streams or recordings, no thanks :/

I really hope you'll be able to make a simple adjustment to have something like "current system" tab, where everything within current system will be displayed and if there's too many things to fit on screen, then please add hotkey options to be able to scroll thru it.

If that's too much work, then maybe you can simply add customizable hotkeys to be able to switch between the tabs? I'd probably set it to something like ALT+mouse wheel up/down.

Otherwise the tool is great, just awkward to use it. I already found this:

Exclusive fullscreen is definitely better if you're purely concerned with performance, but the difference should be nowhere near 10-50%. I can't say I've ever run into any issues getting OBS to capture a window though.

it's offtopic, but yes there are huge performance issues in borderless, including other issues, such as not being able to minimize it at all, it will cover my desktop if i actually need to check something and obs is total garbage. I have worked on computers since like 1996 or so and I know what is good and what isn't, I've tried many different recorders over past 20+ years, including fraps and obs and I would never recommend obs to anyone (it dose have some adventages, like being able to record invisbile overlays like eyetracker, but otherwise it's garbage).

kindly please stop telling me to change my methods and life, I have proper setup with shadowplay and mirllis action, i'm not going to waste months of time on re-configure my entire life and computer just because one tool doesn't work.

I only came here to kindly ask if you can optimize Observatory and add option to either cycle between tabs using hotkeys or to add another tab that shows everything in one. Thanks.

I didn't tell you to change a single thing. I even agreed with you that exclusive fullscreen is a better choice if you're primarily concerned about performance (though I'm still skeptical of your 10-50% number). If you're going to respond this aggressively to someone probing about the issues you're having then I kindly request that you please stop responding altogether.

I said I like your suggestion and will consider it during the UI rewrite. If that's not sufficient then I don't know what to tell you.

Not quite what you're asking, but I used this as an opportunity to update the SignalMonitor plugin. In the settings you can configure up to 5 resources with minimum thresholds and it'll notify you if it sees at least that many hotspots containing that resource - so if you're looking for Tritium in rings with at least 3 hotspots, you'd set "Hotspot resource 1" to "Tritium" and set the threshold to 3, and it'll notify you of each scanned ring with at least 3 Tritium hotspots.

I've included all mining resources in the list of selectables but not all of them can be hotspots - not a miner so couldn't be 100% which are hotspot-able, and this way allows for future hotspot detection if FDev change things at a later date :)

Can this be run alongside EDDiscovery? Can it be run on a separate PC and read the journal through a Router, like EDDiscovery can?

It's kinda cool I can play Elite on my main PC and that I have a second PC sitting right next to me with EDDiscovery on a second screen... No pop ups on the middle of my gameplay! Lol

Yes to both. You should be able to point Observatory to a network share instead of the normal journal folder just fine.

Hmm, Elite Observatory suddenly no longer running, curious, tested running as admin, still nothing, not a recent update is there?

There's a release imminent, but not out yet I think.

Any ObservatoryCrashLog.txt in Documents? If not, run Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application and look for any events with level Error in there, for Core.

(please don't be one of mine! looks at BioInsights)
