Fiction Elite : Reclamation

Fantastic update, thanks Drew!

Having set a place really adds to the sense of the story. Especially with one as interesting as yours. Great to have a real system and that Frontier are letting authors set up some history in the game. Having all the book tie ins with the game will prove a genius idea :D

Yes, my apologies. It's the £10 and above pledge tiers I need the info from at this moment.

Cheers,

Drew.

Hi Drew I left a message on KS as well for you but please disregard it, I was on a lower tier...........so should not have received any emails in the first place.

Great update you just did.... fantastic.

Hello Drew I checked this thread and the Youtube videos so I apologise if you did answer this already and I missed it.

Can I ask what the music is you used for your Stargazing Live 2013 video as well as the music from your "Research" video (which was also used in one of your early videos.

Great music I thought ! :)

Just watched the video, very cool I never considered using FFE as background research as I'd never played it but i can see how it would be a perfect substitute for Dangerous to use to locate the type of planet/location in the galaxy for my system hopping and may save a bunch of rewrites later on if I wish it to stay true to the Elite game when it is released.

for example i start off at a blue giant 6.5 light years from a tech 12+ CS industrial then move the story to the border worlds between empires/factions finally ending at a star system towards the center of one of them from an original destination towards the center of another.

without FFE I'd write up to when they left the tech 12 then find myself stuck for where to go next.

looks like I got a month or 2 of research on FFE ahead of me ;)

Michael indicated that the political situation in E : D would be based on the situation found in FFE, but moved on by 50 years.

Thus, FFE is the nearest we have to a 'history' at this point.

Cheers,

Drew.

Folks,

Planning for an update for the weekend. Lots of stuff is in progress which I can tell you about, but I'm also waiting for some other stuff to 'arrive' as it were. So an update is due - just not sure exactly when it will arrive!

Apologies for going a bit quiet on you all this week.

Cheers,

Drew.

From the update:
Drew said:
Quarterite is a raw material used in the manufacture of military hyperdrive technology

Given you've talked with Frontier, can we take this as confirmation that military hyperdrives will be present in ED? This is sliding into gameplay territory, but the "lose all your cargo when you respawn" solution to some exploits becomes more drastic if you lose all your military fuel far from home. It would be good to get it pinned down so people can mull over the implications.

I'd treat it as an asumption on my part at the moment, but it hasn't been denied. :)

Cheers,

Drew.

Funny enough hyperdrives are a design forum topic in the next few weeks (which will of course filter through the backers and public forums). At the moment we can say there will be different drives, but details are to be finalised.

Should be interesting! :)

For my book it's only an aside really. I need some valuable, but previously undiscovered, resource to be found in the Wolf 630 system (the eponymous Quarterite, a nod to Cavorite if you know your sci-fi). Other than that the details are not important to the story, other than it's rare and expensive.

I'll adjust to match the outcome of the DDF as the discussion evolves. Looking forward to it.

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew, your planet has exotic indigenous life forms on it, correct? The resource could be tied to that somehow if the hyperspace fuel thing doesn't work. Organic resources can be hard to synthetically reproduce so this would be a perfectly plausible explanation as to why it can't be found anywhere else.

Great update as always but raises an interesting question regarding the crowd written title.

as your not allowed to share 'background details on political structure, events and history' publicly how will Chronicles contributors be able to write sections and characters for the book?

because anyone can contribute to it and the sections/characters for inclusion will be publicly voted on 'top secret' universe details couldn't be shared with most of the writers - except those who like yourself have access to that info by means of your own writers pack. even then you couldn't include any of that detail in your contribution as doing so would also make it public.

I think it could result in a lot of writers having things rejected for not being close enough to the cannon and writing it will be like stumbling around in a dark forest wearing sunglasses.

any ideas on how those issues could be avoided or is it just going to require a bunch of rewrites nearer to publication do you think?
