Gnaa, I finally cleaned most of what I could. (errors are tagged as it)
I made the full offline Excel spreadsheet :
http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=99674856499281469843
You can also use it to lookup for cleaned data. Or use the whole data model, as you want.
Oh, and I'm not customer, I dont have have Horizon for now. I did it for fun, and for you.
Did anybody figure out how to level with Tod McQuinn?
I bet that there's a bug that the contacts are missing, and that bounty vouchers should just be sold at his station via contacts.
Looks like you'll be adding three new columns to the components list. System government, state and economy. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...gineers_psa_the_rng_isnt_as_random_as_people/
edit: new PDF link dropbox & mega updated 12/06/2016
reddit link doesn't work.
These columns already are on the sheet(sorta)
Would some Inara-ite please let them know that Todd can only go as high as lvl 2 for cannons. It's correctly shown on the 'blueprints' list, but when you click on the mod, it shows everything as if you can mod a cannon upto lvl 5, which you can't.
More gaming in ED via Forums/Web sites/ Apps... still very good , just wish ( when we can walk inside stations, or our ships !) , it was on the bulletin board, near the bar !,
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!Copy paste:
I've put a fair bit of time into the engineers and one of the most frustrating things I've found is not being able to find 1 material or commodity I need.
Originally the frustration was ridiculous as I would end up doing a task like 'blowing up ships' to try to find all the mats I needed. Then people started documenting where you could find the mats and I used lists like thishttp://inara.cz/galaxy-componentsand did the things it says to do... but every now and then I'd have painful hours and hours of getting 0 results - solely blaming 'RNG' for not dropping it despite doing the correct activity.
Whenever I'd get really frustrated, I'd go search on the frontier forums for people who have had the same problem / been searching for the same item. I always saw the same pattern - there would be a handful of people complaining they never see it and a handful saying they've seen it lots - what's more the people who had seen lots did the same activity I was doing (whether blowing up ships in anarchy or refreshing mission boards).
Eventually - I noticed a few people giving more details - e.g. I found it in this system and having looked at the state of government / economy etc in that system and finding a similar near me - I suddenly started finding what I wanted.
It's the same as searching planets for a mat which do not spawn it - things like this http://ayashi.net/elite/edh-planetmats.htmlshow that there is clearly 'rules' in place which dictate which planets spawn which mats.
I feel this carries through to everything, so the missions for certain items will only spawn often in certain economies / types of system (it's more complicated than just going to high tech).
Similar to this blowing up hauler ships, searching wrecks etc in certain systems are more or less likely to drop certain items and I feel even when blowing up things like military ships the 'grade' of the ship will effect the drop e.g Elite Anaconda in high tech may drop differently than a Master Anaconda in an agriculture system.
The point is, I think the RNG is a lot less to blame than we think and it's more likely we just don't have the knowledge yet to know exactly what constrains each material dropping. I think it would be helpful if the people maintaining spreadsheets to do with mats started recording additional info such as system state / economy / etc so patterns can be found.
Of course this also explains why the people who suggest not grinding anything out (and just flying around playing) may not be feeling the grind as much as they are varying things enough to be getting a more spread drop of items.
Anyway, just something I have noticed which has changed the way that I'll approach the grind (if I ever find myself getting 0 results for hours, I'm obviously doing something wrong somewhere).
[EDIT] As an example... I was looking for Chemical Manipulators... I read that it said blow up haulage ships, so I went to a nav beacon in anarchy space (for reference it was Anarchy, state of Boom and economy Extraction) ... I blew up so many different hauler style ships, Type 6s, Type 7s, Type 9s, etc ... probably at least 20-30 and I didn't get a single chemical manipulator drop... I then searched the frontier forums and found someone say about a system he found it in called Bunda. I looked up Bunda and it had Anarchy, Boom, Economy = Agriculture / Industrial... I found a system just like that near where I was, went there and the first type 7 I blew up dropped chemical manipulators! ... I've since collected a load more. I guess that 'material' has some lore link to industry / agriculture - so you won't ever find it in extraction based economies because no one would have it on their ship...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
It's all total helpless RNG!!!! Those people who post youtube vids said so - apparently knowledge and skill are useless and it all should be changed

Specialized Legacy Firmware can be found with very high probabilty in Satellite USS, which are typically found in orbit around civilized earthlike planets.
