Engineers rework...

If I served up a two drinks, one containing urine and one containing non alcholic beer, you're going to choose the urine every time but that doesn't make it good, right? ;)

But I dunno if "most" people love the Engineers but it doesn't really matter. Because had we had better stuff added, then more people would like that. We know for a fact that Engineer's uses the worst game design tropes possible as well. So I can't really take anyone seriously that likes it when discussing it as not only is it mindless repitition, but it also pretty much broke the game.

You didn't buy horizons, everything you think you know about the engineers is just someone else's second hand complaining.

Because they're both boring and lifeless. However, the new changes sound good so I'm interested now in trying them out because they sound like something worth doing now whereas for the last 4 years, they've had no gameplay associated with them.

Generally if there's good gameplay, you go play it right? The fact that right now it's awful puts people off.

I can admit than exploration is a bit boring, but finding an undiscovered earth-like world is absolutely gratificant. And this is something i will not have done without the engineers needs.

I was late to jump on engineering mostly due to me just being super intimidated by all the different options. I'm glad they scrapped the old methods after watching videos and reading about it. I personally, really enjoy it now. Like reaaaaally enjoy it now. *drools profusely*

well, seems engineers are here to stay so ... could you serve some peanuts to go along with the urine? [big grin]

You could easily do it without the Engineers and because you like it or think that doesn't make it a positive for the game, right? If the exploration wasn't pressing "J" simulator and was actually engaging, you wouldn't care about jump range at all because there would be a galaxy out there with a good FTL travel mechanic and things to scan and stuff to discover the most important part of exploration.

We could have had that instead of the Engineers we have now. We could have been out there 2 years ago mapping systems for rare materials for mining guilds to come in and fight over. We could have been finding other interesting things that could have helped the player base and given rise to emergent gameplay.

Nope - we got grind with a roulette wheel of RNG that did nothing and was pointless.

Agree, apart from the "easily do without engineers" - the bullet sponge AI they shoved into my face just wasn't fun for me anymore.

LMAO - I hope they kill Engineers, it wuld be good for the game and for PVP. Just give everyone longer jump ranges and allow for constant acceleration like in Evochron Legacy (uses the same flight model as ED and yet you can FTL as well) and that would be a good starting point. As it is now, Engineers provide nothing other than an "I win" button that you grind for.

Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,I win!
Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,Grind,I win!

That isn't gameplay and the results are you can do things or kills things a bit quicker. We're meant to get excited over that?

Kill it! Kill it and then kill it again LOL

I think he has you on his ignore list like me. He will likely accuse you of hiding behind anonymity because he put you on his ignore list too. ;)

Jex doesn't have horizons and has no idea how engineers works. He ignores the positive posts and only highlights the negative.

I'd say you are definitely wrong, there are plenty of people looking for lame excuses to complain about things that don't actually happen though so you've made some people happy at least.

The brokers are there purely for convenience.
You're over-reacting and painting me as a villain. I've worked round what is a minor problem for me. I just think the mechanism could be refined - it's not a big deal.
But just saying I'm wrong doesn't make it so. Prove it and I'll listen.

While i appreciate many aspects of the new system, it massively increased the grind for me to engineer ships.

I've spent the last several months when playing on and off just engineering a whole new fleet. Its taking forever, and while i'm mainly done, there are still bits and peices that need doing.

I would have been much happier if they had kept the old system and just added brokers.

But minority opinion i guess.

If i am not wrong, engineers are facultative ?

I can admit a lack of background in the game but i don't think this is only because of the engineers.

This system is made for players like me who likes to improve their ship and go and test modifications.

What i want to say by this topic it is only that new system is far better than the older...

Do you really need to engineer a whole fleet, grade 1-5 all in one go?

Yep, I asked him where he got his second hand inaccurate complaint about something on the basis that he had no knowledge of it himself and couldn't even fact check it and he popped me on ignore lol.

I haven't painted you as the villain, I've told you I think you're wrong and that some people will jump on that as another thing to moan about (inaccurately) not caring if it's true or not.

i understand. e.g. who doesn't want to boost at 800m/s through canyons and between buildings? i certainly do! when engineers was initially announced i actually salivated just imagining what we could maybe be able to do with thrusters.

but this is alright for solo, even pve (who really cares about overkill in pve, you can easily handicap yourself). and it would be in open multiplayer if kept reasonable, but both the magnitude of the buffs and the sheer sudden overabundance of buffs and special effects just shifts the focus away from flying skill to managing spreadsheets and investing time in endless grind to test all combinations (unless you just want to copy the current meta/mantra, yipeeee). sorry, that's a different game, not interested, and no wonder it took frontier nearly a year to correct at least the biggest and more obnoxious balancing issues in that sorry mess. but of course enjoy your godlike fighter/hauler/explorer! :)

"Do you really need to engineer?", should be the actual question, IMO ;)

Max has a very good point, if you choose to take a very grindy approach like engineering a fleet all in one go it really is your own problem.

You also have a good point, the whole engineers thing is optional.

Except, it's really not- depending on your style of play, is it?

The whole "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" adage doesn't really apply when you're talking META for context. :)

Then the flipside becomes you have to "fix" everything before you can use it becoming a simple baseline... which is the paradoxical argument.

yeah you have a point there, but ... most people seem to love engineers. see?
Because they may be short-sighted, therefore only notice the performance boost Engineering brings along, while ignoring poor game mechanics and/ or fail to see the bigger picture of ruined game balance. On another note, using Engineers doesn't mean people "love" them.
