Is it okay if we use someone from the current lore as our Faction Leader, or does the Leader have to be made up entirely?

Sadly not, it’s best for the leader to be a new character.

Is it okay if we don't have a faction leader at all? Would be important to communist factions.

How is that going to happen? One day you release a server update and *poof* two dozen systems suddenly have a different owner that popped out of nowhere? I would have imagined these player-sponsored factions would begin as minor factions without any outpost or starport at all, and would have to work up "from rags to riches", not start with their own starport and system immediately.

I would say that most player groups, currently, 'poofed' into existence. Yes, they have all fought to create an identity over time..but the original decision to support whatever faction they are...really was just that...a player decision.

This. And I am concerned that it seems to have real, lasting influence on the game, you need strength in numbers. Not really in keeping with the spirit of Elite -- "Blaze your *own* trail"?

This option is for player GROUPS.. One man couldn't possibly be his own government in a system, just like in real life.

The FGE has been working on some systems for a while as I am sure a lot of the old long term groups have.

Sorry because i'm not english. I understand the most part of the post but there is a detail that's remains confused to me. Do we have to choose one of the existing minosr factions? Or just go somewhere in the galaxy, find a system and send a mail to frontier for creating a new faction ?

You can find a system and let Fdev know and they will add your faction to the system.

Would we be able to claim a controlling/major station if we were to house ourselves in an NPC occupied system? If not, would we start at an outpost?

As long as there isn’t a player sponsored group in that system already then you will be the controlling faction for that system.

Just wanted to add my voice to this plea. For those people who won't play this, please make it as transparent as possible for them - ie names that align reasonably well with the current, generated ones.

Though I do know that there are people looking at the submissions, and I'm pretty confident that they won't allow completely ridiculous and story-breaking names in, it's worth adding voice to that to say yes, yes we really do care about what goes in. Not trying to break anyone's fun, just trying to keep it a bit more sensible.
