Yes it's a mod. My point I suppose is that MP support should have been added in by ETS devs, especially for ATS. The modders are stuck with what they have to work with and it's a pity because ETS/ATS would massively benefit from working MP.
Ah ok, yes I get you and I agree - it would be a greater game with full MP built in. As a modded single player game, tho, it can't really be faulted by comparing it's MP function to other games that came with MP built in from the get-go. Just it's total lack thereof! That said, they made up for it in spades by adding VR support so early on.

Not every game needs to be multiplayer. It seems to be a common curse of games these days that don't need MP somehow get shoehorned into being MP. Its understandable some people enjoy MP ETS, but MP also adds a lot of overhead to development that the devs might prefer to spend elsewhere.

There is an argument that ED would have been a better game (for some) if it wasn't online as well. Just think of all the things FD might have got done if they didn't have to deal with things like PvP balance, powerplay, CQC, etc, and how they could also have opened up the game to being modded.

I wonder where ETS2 would be like these days had it been a multiplayer game all along...

"Scania OP plz nerf"
"PSA: Renault griefer in Rotterdam"
"What's the best €/h route currently?"
"Traffic jam griefing makes me want to quit playing"
"Garage leaderboards hacked?"
"Need a new Truck Destruction Derby Arena already, old one is boring"

Stop it now or I'm going to either start crying or get banned. Or both.

Indeed dealing with MP means SP content has to be cut short. There is only so much budget to allocate.

The common curse is not "online multiplayer" with its toxic side effects (and vastly different from local multiplayer). It is the Internet itself, which "destroyed" video games. (In parenthesis, it's a hyperbole of course).

Both video games and the Internet appeared at roughly the same time 40 years ago. While both existed in parallel for about two decades without taking much notice from each other, both video games and the Internet did go mainstream with the turn of the century, making the clash unavoidable.

The new medium of entertainment didn't have the centurie(s) other forms had to mature, like book or film, making it vulnerable to the Internet.

What you may not have noticed, is that the Internet affects every single video game, not just those with multiplayer. When you find a great singleplayer classic from the pre-Internet-age, then the reason why it's great is not the insufficient hardware with its huge pixels (which some developers nowadays desperately try to recreate). The reason why it was great is, because its developer(s) didn't have Internet access (nor did their game). Classic games were great, because they stem from an offline culture, which doesn't exist anymore.

I could go on, how genre diversification is gone, because the game developer hivemind is now shoving feature-of-the-week into every game. How exploration of secrets and narrated puzzles died, because information flows to quick in the Internet age. But that's content for some research paper, not for a forum.

Video games have been turned an extension of the Internet (like social networks) - with all negative consequences. And there is no way back.

The ETS 1.32 Open Beta is now live. Major changes are trailer ownership and a rebuild of parts of northern Germany. The devs stress that this is an early beta, and they expect bugs. Details here:

I'll post some Germany screenshots when I get there: it's a long drive from my garage in Tolouse. I think I'll leave testing the trailer ownership bit for now, so someone can explain how it all works.

Well looks like I'll have to wait a bit until ProMods, RusMaps, Jazzy Cat's trailer packs, Southern Region and Project Balkans all gets updated. One thing about ETS is they really do update a lot compared to many other games and sims. Crap part is waiting for all the mod developers to be updated to the new versions each time.

Luckily I can still play my roll back version I'm doing now due to not wanting to upgrade to the latest ProMods yet...

Really great update. Got a trailer just to try it out, I think you can have more than one, which is nice. I suppose depending on the space you have. The trailer sounds are better now, also the stability which made little difference before seems much better, I had that on the lowest ie, easy to turn over and I could hardly ever turn it over, now I can:eek:, not that I want too.
I like that you have to back up to a dock to load (for box etc), then they load you up and away you go. Much more realistic.
I can't wait to see a flat bed loaded, not sure how they will do that. I will buy a flatbed too, to find out.:D

The customisation is good too. Can't wait to see what modders do with this update, I can see names on sides of trailer and so on. A really nice update from SCS, hats off to them.
I'm yet to see any map updates, not gone that far and it was night time, so look forward to that. Just off to buy a garage in Denmark, as I need to buy one of the doubles, can only have them in the countries operating them. Modders no doubt will free that up ;)

Edit, also like the fact when the trailer is empty, it runs at empty weight, weight of load goes on, after loading..

to be honest the main problem with multiplayer games is other people just have to ruin it.

ETS2 is a fantastic game BECAUSE it is pure single player imo. i can just imagine now how it would be if it was multiplayer.... people trying to take it semi seriously having to put up with berks ramming and doing all sorts of stupid stuff.

having it as a fan made mod bolt on is a fine compromise imo.... .and because people have to go to some effort to set it up may ironically mean you get a better type of gamer playing the multiplayer as well. (maybe not i dunno, i have not tried it MP)

Got myself a few trailers, there are issues with some of them when fully locked steering wise, but they have probably already addressed that today (perhaps).
It is much, much, better to have our own trailers and once mods are available to put names on, it will be even better.

The doubles only work in the countries that accept them, however mods will alter that, because it is nice to drive them across Europe into Russia etc.

The game goes from strength to strength, think its been out since 2013 ETS2 and it still looks and feels as good as new.

It's quite incredible how much has been added. I don't spend my life on it, but regularly go back and there's always lots of new stuff to see and play with. And while they do sell cosmetics (and I picked up a fair few), there's no cash-shop lock in thanks to mods. Not sure how these folks do it but I'm impressed.

Well the kind of MP that should be in every game (what used to be in EVERY MP game) was the ability to host your own game and password lock it. I want to MP with my friends that have the game but not on dead roads. I want to hang out the window side by side and complain about the traffic jams and how much worse they are after Brexit (oh noes!) :p

The Oregon map DLC for ATS is out.

Had to stop at a weigh station. Rather pointless, as a three-trailer combo is too long for the scales.

I think this is just about in northern California. They've added new roads to connect to Oregon

Lift bridge. Fully animated, and rather annoying if you're in a hurry.

Japan must be out there somewhere...

The developers have clearly put a great deal of effort into this one. Lots of varied landscapes, and some nice looking cities and towns. It seems to be pushing the limits of my graphics card though, and I'm getting stuttering at times, which needs further investigation.

Yep, I've been driving in Oregon in ATS for the past few days, it's beautiful. I've been to Oregon a few times they've done a great job of capturing how driving around the state feels.

Have to say that Beyond the Baltic Sea is looking good, although I'm not really enfused with this current trailer ownership malarkey.

I love the trailer ownership, got myself a few. I'm really looking forward to the Beyond the Baltic release.
I do prefer ETS2 to ATS, although that is good too. Would like them just to keep growing out ETS2 really, save using mods.

TLDNR ( the whole thread ;-) .... serious question ..... Do you people all use steering wheels pedals and gear sticks n such ? ( also can you drift ingame? lol )

ps. there is a large Volvo (front cabby bit) in FH4 , think I'll see if I can get her going sideways :)

My company ingame has 5 or so of them at the moment, but I can't really see the purpose beyond the aesthetic one.

They need to expand the number of drivers you can have again in my opinion, if we're getting another region to play in.
