Evochron Legacy: Is it worth it?

This is the game I'm asking about:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/398170/Evochron_Legacy/

Some reviews say that its "better" than ED in various ways, even though its made by only one developer. Have any of you played it? I'm thinking about buying it when its on sale, but want to know what you think.

Its pretty cool, and super impressive when you consider it is made by one man. Well worth the money IMHO. But no, it doesnt even come close to ED in so many ways, but that is just not a fair comparison.

If you give your seal of approval I am now certain its worth the money :D . But I'll still wait for the next sale, since I have plenty of things to do in Elite and Rebel Galaxy for now.

There is a free demo for downloading (IIRC) on their website. Might be best to give it a try, it's quite different from ED in many aspects and you may not like it at all. And even though I take my hat off for all that stuff being made by a single guy, and being overall much more feature rich than ED and much better on the sim-side of things, it does look qute crappy in the graphics department (especially compared to ED's beautiful visuals), and the gameplay is more slow-
paced.

Actually, from what I've read, the developer is working on improving the graphics right now. In the latest patch he added improved textures, new very high graphics settings, new shaders. While this is great, I'm more interested in the gameplay aspect, if its fun, I don't really care if its slower paced, or not very "pretty".

Far better than ED. Just grafhically inferior.

Plus no bgs, no real exploration, far less ship customization, no planetside stuff like srvs and alien bases, no decent multiplayer, no puzzles to solve etc etc. As I said, its a cool game and I recommend it, but please peddle your frustration elsewhere. OP is looking for real feedback, not your usual spleen venting and bitterness. :)

You really do not know anything about the game. Only talked nonsense and lies.

Just a few game features(there is a lot more):

1)You can land on planets and you are also able to deploy a Terrain walker and walk around the planet.

2)The game have a persistents POIs like BIG crashed Ships on planet surface and even you are able to booklog this place and return to it at anytime, And you can booklog any place in a planet.

3)A variety of customizations to be applied on ships at the level of weapons, shields, hull, engines, and even change the position of these on the ship.

3) you have cities over planet surfaces.

4) you can mining in space and in planets surfaces

4) You have planets with and without atmosphere, including gas planets.

5) The flight model is true newtonian.

6) The economy between words and systems works a lot better for trade.

7) Exploration is the best part, you can find many secrets and "places" even in space(And the best part of the exploration is that you do not need to consult Galnet News, nor receive newsletter. Just by playing and using the tools of the game, you can find it). You have atmospheric planets with rains, thunders storms, volcanics, blue skyes. The climatic and relief variety is abundant in the game. You have base stations inside asteroids. The list is immense.....

8)You can build stations.

Stop talking about what you do not know.;)

Like I said, only the graphics are not so good.

The Evochron games are exceptional for a one man labour of love, not perfect but good fun. Try the demo first you can buy and continue your progress if you like it, or at least you could with the last one.

Without wanting to turn this into a Evochron vs ED flame war, I would just like to add that Evochron also has:

- Completely Seamless transitions between space and planets, and different flight models for planetary flight, where pressure, gravity, etc all affect flight much more noticeable (including atmospheric re-entry). Also, when flying on planets, you can't just "hover", you will fall down if flying at less than the necessary speed to keep airborne.

- A much better cockpit/hud with much more visible information while still feeling much less cluttered than ED's (although I like ED's side panels).

- The actual flying a spaceship part is much more involving than ED. On the other side of things, I really hate that you never really "dock" / land on stations or cities, you just fly into a squarey area where the ship is frozen in place and station / base menus pop up.

- It fixed long ago things like "artificial ligthing at the dark side of panets to make gameplay easier/possible". It has no artificial lighting, period. Dark side of planets are dark. But can toggle night vision on for a green tinted vision mode.

So many positive thoughts about the game, awesome . I don't know if I can wait for a sale now, I might get it sooner :D

Download the demo from their website.

You made me too curious and started playing the demo from the Dev Site. I started with the training and its overwhelming how many options there are, I am really impressed with the HUD. The graphics aren't that bad, I somewhat like them, considering it looks much better than how all the games looked when I started gaming 15+ years ago [haha]

One of the good things about the Evochron games is that they are what they say they are. The question is it worth it?, in this case is not complicated by having to work out if the game really is pushing itself to be something other than what it is for some rea$on, as so many games these days do.
The demo provides a bit of hands-on and the description of how the gameplay pans out in the long run is to be trusted.

Don't compare Evochron to ED...

You should not compare Evocron to ED, you should compare it to Star Citizen. See what one guy and and few volunteers can do as opposed to Chris Roberts, hundreds of employees, 4 or is it 5 studios, and $178 million and counting...[haha] Jpegs vs an actual playable game. His fourth no less.[haha]
