Exploration - When worlds colide

This is really cutting it close as far as timing goes...can you imagine if this collision was happening just a few hours later, and the servers came down for the 3.0 drop...

It's crazy to actually see them moving. Both of them at the same time, slowly covering stars. It has more impact watching it on my monitor. Kind'a can feel how close they are... virtual gravitational pull.

It's also odd that you can see them moving so they feel like they are moving pretty fast, but it's also painfully slow. You're expecting the collision but they just tick ever closer sooooo slowly.

I had my Colonia account out there landed on 2C, tried to take off to get a better view and got caught in the gravity well of 2B and smeared across the ground. Good thing it was only a Cobra.

This whole experience is unlike anything else. It really is a must do at least once kind of thing.

Very true. Also, the collision will last for a while, I assume, like 3 hours maybe after first contact? Not sure how long the Youtube streams are allowed to go on. I'm new to it (as you probably can tell).

Agree. Now I kind'a wish I had put on the VR for this instead. Oh, well.

I believe there might be another system where this could be happening as well. It's closer to the bubble. It's a system I was in two days ago, and it looked like two planets had crossing orbits. Probably less frequent collision though. Maybe something to look into later on. A proper orrery view in the game would really help. One where you can work in 3D, see where all objects are now, and then wind/rewind back and forth to see changes. This would be most helpful to find things like this.

21:45 and they are close but not in contact yet. I think ~21:30 (ish) was the latest predicted time so we're later than predicted now.
Hopefully that means everyone who was planning to be there has made it by now.

Loos like contact now. @~22:03
Too bad it's dark there at the moment.

yes, 22:01-22:03 contact, confirmed on PS4 also ... ad dark .. not bad imo

[Added later] ... I hit a surface on 2B also ... but I'm affraid the reason is I'm moron, not gravity ;)
But I'm fine - hull from 100% to 83% .. not bad ...

Contact at approx. 22:02

One thing I discovered is that it seems terrain collision does damage based on how fast you are going in your frame of reference, not how fast the ground is coming towards you. So if you're going at 0 speed, you are dealt 0 damage.

Looks like it's not happening for me tonight either.

I logged out in normal space somewhere in between the two planets an hour or so ago. Now, it won't let me log in at all, in PG or Solo.

EDIT: OK, so I tried logging in to non-Horizons and that kinda worked. It put me back in orbit near the two moons. Weirdly, though, the planets aren't colliding in that instance. They were at least 3-5Nm away from each other.

Well that was quite an experience! The scale of the planet closing in while using a Vive VR headset is something else entirely. And what an adventure - I ended up inside 2b and unable to either land or escape. I logged out and relogged in but via the non-Horizons version which offered to put me in a safe orbit (yes please!) only to find that the navcomp still thinks I am -1m below a planet's surface and mass-locked. I suspect this will resolve itself once the two moons have separated.

I thought returning to Colonia after 2 years out in the black was a high-point but this was something else.
