Explorer's Wish List

External Camera!!

Another thing: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an hotkey to enter the system map. And if you want to do us a very special favor, let me select destinations in the system map.

You can reselect your plotted route from the nav panel on the left side. Scroll down until you see a system with three linked dots next to it. Lock it and engage hyperjump.

Doesn't always work. I frequently find that the targeted system is much further away than the last item on the list - probably a problem that is made worse by having a jump range of 33LY: the last 'close' item on the list is typically 15-20LY away. Sometimes it is added to the bottom, which is great, but sometimes it isn't.

maintain your planned route even though you switch to target a thing to scan.

if you select the marked next hop in the navigation menu, you are "back on track" in that case.
doesn't work if you lose the route by dropping out of SC though (at least not for me).

As long as you remain in SC, it will always be there at the bottom of the list. If you drop out of SC, it isn't (even after you go back into SC). This is why it's on my list of things to fix for explorers. :)

That should be the case, but there is probably a bug somewhere. It happens, now and then, without dropping out of SC which I only do by accident or at the start/end of a session. I have not spotted any pattern, yet, so I have not bothered to raise a ticket.

A ships log, so I can easily look back on which system I've visited. The ability to append notes and screen shot to the log would be a plus. Other than that I'd also like to see

- maintain your planned route even though you switch to target a thing to scan.
- outside camera for screenshots

A list, accessible in galaxy map with link to the systems you've explored, with options to filter for the ones you're managed to sell data on and be recognized as the discoverer of. This is mostly database-stuff and shouldn't be too difficult.

+1
Very reasonable suggestions and (probably?) not too tough to implement. Clean hi-res screenshots outside of cockpit and persistent list of bookmarks should be the top priority.

The same engine for my ship that the escape pod has., It gets me back to a station in one jump. :D

I think that what happens is the "escape pod" just drops your body into space, sends a signal to the last station and a new clone is awakened. Which is why you lose all memory of things and there's canisters of 'slaves' available. :)

Fire and Forget - Advanced Discoveryt Scanner.......
...
My bag of balls Surface scanner, or even the most basic basic scanner, will scan a target automatically when pointed at it.....
...
Yet my 1.5 Million credit ADS, which does NOT need me to aim, at anything......does need me to hold the button down for 6-8 seconds............eh?......... :)

Your ADS is sending out a signal >1000ls and getting the info back. I'd say a couple of seconds isn't too much to ask, is it? It's the same as the KWS, it's not the scanning that takes time, it's the lag in getting info back and parsing it into useful information.

And also because game.

Wow, great stuff in here.
Makes you think about the design of this "profession" or "career path" beforehand doesn't it?

"Just give them a ship and let them fly, let's call it "Explorer", give them some scanners and a rank...what is there more to think about?" :D

I'm up for 1, 2 and 3, but not 4.

I made a conscious choice when I decided to head core-wards. Knowing that I would miss out on any good community/game events while I'm away is a hit that I'm more than prepared to take.
