Exploring and Mining?

Yeah, I hear that a lot.

You said: "And only what had been mined by players." The game shouldn't make a distinction between NPCs or players. We're all just another pilot.

Ah, ok. Thats a point.

Regarding the gold seeker town, it could be very lucrative for traders. Also for gunslingers fighting of the pirates.
There also needs to be a bonus to wing with a miner or trader for security purposes.

Anyone wants to meet me at HIP 29239 A1 for mining in company?

Nah, what do you say? That is a pretty sight, isn't it?

In game, to everyone Allied status. That's because I sold my data to all factions. In reality to no one.
I have been selling data to a small outpost which belongs to the Alliance to increase it's influence there, so I do lean towards them.
None of the powers appeal to me.

Yup, we're all just another pilot. But the game differentiates between real players and NPC's. So real players get harassed by players who are bored. I think there should be a function where players could opt to appear on the scanner the same as an NPC.

I'm not joining any factions either, since I'm off exploring. When I get back I might get arrested because I aligned with the losing side.

I set off in the "Mein Cow" -- my T9 kitted for exploration and mining. It's a really odd ship. Since it's empty now, except for the huge racks of collection drones ready to go, I can wander around the cavernous empty storage racks; it's like that ancient movie ALIEN in here.

My destination is a couple systems I explored in COL 359. About 370ly out of human space. going out to 450ly. I explored them in Longshot and they've all got lots of rings and (of course) pristine reserves.

COL 359 SECTOR RW-M C7-12
COL 359 SECTOR EU-P D5-12
COL 359 SECTOR HV-D B26-2
COL 359 SECTOR IQ-DV B26-2

I kitted the Mein Cow up with what I think should be pretty good. I have a lot of cargo space and 50 collector drones. Dual mining lasers and a few turrets studding the outside.

I made it all of 3 systems before someone interdicted me. It was useless to try to defeat the interdiction and the pirate immediately opened fire on me. I deployed the turrets and started running to get away. As it was, I took some pretty heavy hits before I was able to jump to a more civilized system. This kind of nonsense wouldn't be tolerated in Empire Space!

My repair bill was 35,000cr. It could have been worse. But now I am wondering what will happen to me when I come back in with my holds full of precious metals.

This may not be a good idea. I have decided to stop where I am and rest up for a couple days while the yard-rats weld patches onto my ship's hull.

I've made a build which might be a bit pricey and not completely thought through, but I value all input on it.

It's based on the Python I have stationed in Lugh, but I won't be able to a) test it out b) see if I can afford it because I'm still on my way back from Sag A. And Note the fuel transfer limpet controller; I'm honoring the vow I made a few days back. Fuel Rats ftw!

That is a beautiful ship and exactly what I want in my mining/rat barge. I just need to be able to afford the darn thing.

Ummm... If you are going out mining, then surely you are going to need a "refinery".

:D

Surveying would be much more bearable if collector drones were more intelligent about what to pick up and how not to crash into things.

Today's discovery is: you really need to upgrade the thrusters if you're flying a T-9. It's not nimble and if you're an experienced explorer you're probably used to whipping around to scan things. One does not "whip around" in a T-9.

Surveying would be much more bearable if asteroid chunks wouldn't float INSIDE their parent roids

Would a T7 be as cumbersome? I was thinking about a rat/mining barge in a T7 but Im not sure its worth it over the benefits of the Asp.

Well, I have given exploromining a good couple of days. I just don't quite feel the love. Panite is rarer than an ELW, and have just returned for the first time since the Friday update, and mining missions seem to have vanished. Now I have 50 tonnes of nice rare stiff, and no way to dispose of then profitably.

I can understand that all good panite sources are at res points in the bubble, but outside, you should be able to find them too, and I haven't found any

I think a T-9 would be tolerable with decent thrusters. I am really suffering out here.

Mostly, my fear with taking a T-7 is you'll find an absolutely fantastic pile of rocks and you'll run out of cargo space pretty fast. I'm still not sure on the balance of cargo:drones. I started out with 416 tons of space and 50 drones. Now I am at 48 drones and 3 tons of metals. I wasted a few drones by finger-fumbling as I was trying to figure out what I am doing. Don't launch a drone until you decide you are mining a rock; and the drone will stay with you for a good while even if you switch rocks.

I have decided my drones are all named "Wheezy" You can see Wheezy down there waiting for a rock.

They probably attached the spawn probability to RES in order to encourage players to wing up and have fighters protect the miner with pewpewpew. :(

I cant even fill up my Asp generally before I run out of drones, and its always just worthless rocks that I then cannot sell for a decent price back home... so I certainly cant fill a T-9. I need a decent ring to see if this is really worth the trouble.
I discovered that prospectors are neat, but whats better is a fatter refinery and just mine everything dry, Ill find out whats in the rock when the drones bring it back. As for limiting the good spreads to RES points, that's a really ham handed fix to be "inclusive" I really think RES points need to go in general or be completely re-done. Maybe they need to be a faster way to sell resources, put a station right there in the belt or something.

I found decent painite recources in my pretty place one day and nothing the other.
The problem with the drones is, when you want everything then they are good, but when you decide to deploy a ton of silver for painite they always come like "Oh, oh, you lost something, should I get it, huuuuuiiii, here it is back in the cargo. Am I a good boy? Am I?"
"Yes you are. Nice drony, niiicce." Limpet power off...
