This is on the money. The engineers demand things for their services. We can work with that... but! There should to be a clear way to go and obtain what is asked in a reasonable amount of time. Not as random drops with low probability. So, FDev, I beg of you, get rid of the randomness in the material gathering process. Make it predictable and skill based. Give us scanners to find surface materials, allow us to choose what rewards we get from missions from materials of the same rarity, allow us to trade low level materials for high level ones... anything to give us more control of how we gather these things!
I don't think the guy's name has anything to do with No Man's Sky, even though you seem to have a real hate boner for it.
The forums are being ignored... the past couple weeks. They are waiting for the heat to die down before they stick their heads back out. Problem is I don't think when it dies down there will be many left. Better get some news and or letters from the president to address all these concerns soon.

RNG can help with procedural games but they can't substitute for mechanics that make sense and are satisfying. I should probably write a full design post on this. On the weekend maybe.

I'm sort of fine with the RNG for upgrade rolls, but it really needs to be taken out of the actual material gathering process. Some materials and components aren't too difficult to find, but I really feel that all of the special commodities need to be available in regional markets.
I didn't really mind getting the 50 tons of Kamitra Cigars for Liz Ryder, because they were guaranteed to be sold from a specific station. I hated the 25 Modular Terminals for Marco Qwent, though. I'm still not even entirely sure, but they seem to only come from missions at surface stations. If I knew of a place that was guaranteed to sell at least 1 or 2 of these special commodities, like rare goods, then I wouldn't mind so much.
You want it "realistic"? Try Frontier... it's hilarious... In terms of fun and playability the flight model of ED is absolutely genius.I'd trade it in for Frontier's flight model without any hesitation. Totally unrealistic. A maximum speed in space? FSD/FTL travel? Come on.
There are good points about the game, but I'm afraid this is rather a low point than a benefit. A necessary one, though - the Frontier flight model isn't multi-player compatible.
Actually, the whiny self-entitlement threads-such as these-are always ignored, as the game will never appeal to the OCD/Instant Gratification crowd who whine about grinding because they want everything *yesterday*. However they do read-& respond to-reasonable threads that make good suggestions, & don't start from a position of belittling those who made the game.
You can buy them too - like most of teh extra materials from commodities you need - there is a list and also i did some personal bookmarks on places i found stuff to buy - this is a GREAT Ressource where to find what:
Module Terminals: http://inara.cz/galaxy-commodity/181
All other Stuff:

Cheers!
I do not like to have to search for individual rocks.
I would like it if FD added ore rich pockets to planets.
We should be able to search for those pockets in our ships and when we find them we can then land and collect the ore with our SRV.
There don't need to be hundreds of rocks in such a pocket just 10 or so would be fine.
I think this would alleviate the grind a bit and it also feels more natural.
Frontier have asked for feedback, and this mechanic is so game breaking to a lot of us that the feedback tends to be rather enthusiastic/heated.
...If you don't like it then tbh go play something else ... hyperbolic rubbish.
Reading comprehension not your strong suit eh? I have tried a number of times to explain that this has nothing to do with wanting everything "yesterday", or instant gratification. It has everything to do with game mechanics that don't reward skill or knowledge, only time invested and lucky rolls.
If you find it rewarding waiting for something lucky to happen, that is fine, but don't label those who don't as whiners. Frontier have asked for feedback, and this mechanic is so game breaking to a lot of us that the feedback tends to be rather enthusiastic/heated. I am sure the devs are mature enough to filter out the hate/frustration from the viable suggestions - this is not some school project made by fragile kids, this is a business and we are the customers.
And why do you suppose the player base of Elite Dangerous is consistently getting smaller?

You cannot buy modular terminals, or any other mission only rewards.. Have a closer look at INARA.. It says no location found for buy.. Only sell

Care to share your figures for Active Online players comparing the last 2 weeks to Online players 6 months ago?
Making overarching hyperbolic statements like 'this is gamebreaking' or 'its ruined the game FOR ME' or 'Frontier cant make games' and so on is why you get the other reactions back at ya. I see nothing in Engineers that is any such thing. Yes there are bugs, yes Frontier do need to tweak things, and add storage, and add the ability to swap modules and so on. Of course those things would help, but please enough with the hyperbolic rubbish.
