FDev - mining with SLF still works and there should be punishment for those who abuse it.

Ok, just two things from me.

1. What does SSD stand for in all of this? I’ve been out with my Carrier and not on the forums recently.

2. Exploits may be cheesy but if you expect FDev to punish everyone who uses them they won’t get much else done. It’s been exploit after exploit for the two and a bit years I’ve played and the Cmdrs who’ve used them must be legion.

1. Sub Surface Deposit, another way to mine an asteroid, first one being just using Mining laser, and then we have the crack the asteroid open, this one is a bit in between...

2. I think that the game developer have to own up to their mistakes, one thing Bungie gets right is in these situations, they own up to most of their mistakes and instead of condemning players for using the exploits, they tell the players, enjoy it while it lasts, we will patch it in the upcoming weekly update. So I think this is a player friendly stance to start from. Then I can understand that some exploits of the game, that would give some players some definitive advantage over other players, then we get into some muddy waters, like with the Engineering 1.0 exploit, where you could pay grade 1 material and do grade 5 rolls....

[Off Topic]
For those who do not know, 1.0 had random rolls and random secondary effects, so one such cool thing you could do with that is take a class 5 shield, do G5 rolls and hoppe you got optimized mass bonus of minimum 8-9%, now you could fit that class 5 shield to a Cutter! And on weapons you get lower heat, more damage and lower power draw among many other bonuses...

As does title say there is this "exploit" what people use for mining. This video explains all:

And with that note there should be some serious implications of people abusing this method.
You took away all the money made with Rockforth Fertiliser and it was clearly exploit you should do the same for those people who abused the SLF method.

Please think of it, if you let this slip then you should rollback all the money you took away from people using Rockforth Fertiliser method too.
What you should never do, people who exploit should get their money removed - right thing to do.
There's a name for people like you.... Can't think of it at the moment.....

do u reset HGEs for materials? do u reset Jameson for data?
Probably for breaking rules by using exploits
No, why did you ask?
No, why did you ask?

He was asking generally.
I'll answer for the engineering community, and you can flame me ok ? :)

Yes, LOTS (not necessarily MOST) of us relog at Jameson crash site and YES to HGE relogs.
Why?
One example : Just yesterday, searching for 2 hours, I only found 4 HGEs in BOOM / HIGH population. 2 of them were not what I wanted. One was correct and only had 8 mins left on it and was 150000 Ls away !

There should be more HGEs and a fix for the relog issue, you have to do both together !
And don't start me on Data & Jameson crash site...or even mining before the buff to sub surface.

Engineering is a bore/slog/soul destroying, instead of being fun (what a game should be) :(

That's not the only way to do it though.
Have you heard of material traders?
You just go to one of Imperial systems for example, gather all Imperial Shielding you can find ( it takes less than an hour to fill your inventory from 0 to 100) and trade for anything else.

I can't see how they can fix it totally. If you fly away from the roid in your main ship and back again the rock will have respawned (yes it takes time and not the fighter exploit)

They would have to completely re-write the re-spawn code to fix this properly, like respawn every 24 hours instead of instance re-spawning. I suspect this would have a massive impact on all areas of ED and have huge consequences in other parts of the game. Therefore I can't see it being fix easily / soon.

It is now an officially recognized bug. Anyone using this bug could be considered exploiting it. The EULA has a section about exploiting bugs. Frontier is perfectly in their right to deploy penalties against people exploiting the bug. Whether or not they choose to do so is up in the air. But you have no excuse should they decide to do it.

That's not it.. maybe they thought they fixed it but haven't. The patch says they fixed it??
It wouldn't be the first time this happens:

Community: FDEV please fix this it's a game breaker
(1 year later) FDEV: we fixed it
Community: Thank you, I love you FDEV, you always listen to the community!

(5 minutes later)
Community: FDEV I hate you, the bug is still there, you can't even fix your game!
or
(5 minutes later)
Community: I confirm the bug is fixed but all the rest of game is broken now! Well done FDEV! 🤬

That's not the only way to do it though.

I needed 100 of a certain item and your way(which I do but with multiple items) means I need 600 of another G5 item.
I do know the game, hence why I posted :)

And to complete your partial advice , the easiest ones to get (in order):
Mil Grade Alloys
Imp Shielding
Core Dyn Comp
Proto Heat & Radiolic(hardest of the above because the HGE can be one of 3 items, these are 2 of them, the other is G4)

Still, doing the above means finding an HGE, and sometimes they are as rare as hen's teeth.

They aren't that rare.

Most of my CMDRs high-grade manufactured materials over the last year or two have come from missions and NPC kills (often of pirate Anaconda that interdict his trade/smuggling ships during those missions).

So?
You're choosing to relog because it's faster and you want the easier way. Not because it's really difficult while playing normally.
I don't know why you need to burn through 100 of some HighGrade material, because usually you don't need more than few of them.
If you play in such a way that you need to max everything, then it's your choice - just don't say that game must change because of this, or that using exploits is mandatory to have fun playing game.

Sure, you can get them by just playing the game too, it's just that gathering mats like Imperial Shielding and trading it down is probably the fastest way (without using exploits).

First of all: why tho?
It's not like rich people affect your gameplay experience..
[...]

Can we PLEASE stop with that strawman? It does affect other people in numerous ways, even if they stick to solo.

Heard of the BGS? Or powerplay? What about there (soon) being more FCs than Coriolis stations in the galaxy? What about the price of new features being based on the latest exploit's income level? What about perceived exclusivity, which surely is a factor for many players (and also a driving force behind cosmetic purchases I might add). What about new players reaching the "top" in a week and then coming here to complain about nothing to do in the game? The list goes on...

I don't care particularly about this latest exploit, but I think Frontier should do something about exploits in general.

I'd love to see Frontier find some balance for all income activities for Odyssey and simply divide everyone's credit balance by a million. But that wouldn't be viable either, because people would just stockpile Cutters.

I disagree.
As I said in my post..re read if you want.
We not only have to find an HGE, but it has to be the correct one, have a good timer on it else be very close.
The correct ones are rare!

It can be any HGE if you're willing to trade.

HGE's can all be revealed with a visit to the nav beacon the assessed for distance in moment on the navigation panel. Grab the close ones, the move to the next system.

Even at current rates of spawns, and with current system states essentially eliminating several materials from being harvestable, the current system of Engineering is significantly faster than it was pre 3.0, which was significantly faster than it was in 2.1.

You can simply fly away and back. That's not an exploit, nothing was relogged, you just circled around and hey, this rock looks familiar. The exploit is this: Carrier paintjob! Bam.. bought.. wait, where's my painjob? doh!

This makes it extremely hard to call this particular version exploitative, as it really is, literally, just flying the ship around...
It's clearly not the intention of the game's design though.
