FDev - Please Buff Combat instead of Nerfing Mining!

You've got a lot of nerf, dictating which words OP is or isn't allowed to use.

Somebody has to have the
51pjgLvgXHL._SY679_.jpg

to do it.

The biggest problem is that many "influencers" just get attention through clickbait like what this thread is predicated on. Somebody with a moderate opinion isn't going to grab a lot of attention, but somebody who screams a lot of outrageous nonsense will make noise, despite most of it being made-up.

Some people get attention by knowing what they're doing. Some people are "influencers" because they wear a low cut top and aim the camera down. I wouldn't put much stock in influencers.
Absolutely. Unfortunately, a lot of companies, including game publishers/developers, do take stock of what influencers are saying and doing, and even sometimes allow them an input into their products.

BACKGROUND: For those who dont know, large-scale mining nerfs will be coming in the January 2020 update, with sell prices being decimated. We just dont know how bad the Nerf will be yet, but most likely it will be BAD. Watch DTEA's video :

This is a decision I think we need a unified voice to say "No" to. A lot of people are enjoying mining now and it is a fantastic, profitable activity, there are no calls for Nerfs, even though salty veterans like me complain how hard it was in the day to get a Conda and how easy it is now. Its not a serious call to bring in a Nerf. These type of comments(from me at least) were light-hearted and meant to show newcomers how relatively easy they have it. It is NOT A CALL TO NERF!!!

There was once a day when Combat was the money META. And it was fantastic. Combat pilots from all over the galaxy would go to the most remote star system: 17 Draconis to participate in the civil wars there. I met more random CMDRs and winged up with ppl I did not know there than I ever have before or since. For those who dont know or dont remember, Massacre Missions could be stacked upto the full 20 and each kill counted in parallel; that is when 1 ship was destroyed it counted against ALL missions. And if you winged up with others then any kill you made together counted against ALL of your missions. Fantastic, fun, social, combat META. So naturally it gets nerfed. By the dev team who never plays their own game and didnt hire anybody who seriously does to come on and advise them(one person in particular I think should have).

Now, and since then, there have been no viable methods of getting(decent) money through combat(skimmer missions dont count in my book).

I propose that there are some combat "hotspots" that are chosen, much like 17D, that are active for several weeks, that there are conflicts of some kind and BIG PAYOUTS same as 17D, like 1M per ship. Good payouts for PvP also so there is some extra incentive there. System can maybe flip a status in some meaningful way based upon outcome of the conflict. This can go on in parallel to interstellar initiatives. Basically an alternative to mining using combat as a money-making method. And just 1 hotspot at a time so it gathers players there. Having combat hotspots all over minimizes player interaction which is not what is needed for combat-oriented play. 1 hotspot active at a time, for several weeks, situation resolved, another chosen, repeat. And not much is needed changed to make it happen, either, massively increasing combat bonds for 1 system and keeping civil war or war state going would do it for a quick-and-dirty method of getting this done. Programming this should be quick and easy. Lets have it, FDev!

But mining, as it stands, works very well. People are happy with it. People do it. We need to maybe diversify money-making play but NERFS ARE NOT THE WAY!!! Many engineered, custom-built mining ships now, and I was about to make one myself are going to the scrap heap with this nerf. Dont do it, FDev!

Lets get some more money-making metas(dont know if you can have more than 1 meta lol but you know what I mean), keep money nice and easy. Money farming is just a pita, and another "grind drag". Lets have activities we all enjoy for a good payout.

So, basically :

1. PLEASE DO NOT NERF OUR MINING!
2. PLEASE GIVE US SOME OTHER MONEY-MAKING OPTIONS, especially COMBAT!

I cant tell if this is satire... honestly... The economy is broken. I have almost turned griefer, with all the Harmless Corvettes in Shinrarta Dezhra.

So they're being reduced by a tenth? Doesn't seem so bad :D

Seriously though, the economy in the game has been senseless since the dawn of time - it seems entirely sensible to me that high demand will no longer remain high once it has been sated by players delivering the commodity concerned. It's a classic example of players saying they want something (in this case more realism in the in-game economy) and then throwing their toys out of the pram when it actually happens.

Well why did it take so long for a market update? I guess it was just a way to get people mining, making the update look like a success through over-priced items. Combat does need some payout love!
Ever since these minerals and the new mining mechanics landed, FD tabled that they'd "look at rebalancing the prices[1]" or words to that effect. So it was always on the table since these landed, just like most things, the "placeholder" became production, and it took too long for any rebalance effort to occur before players established this in their heads as "status quo".

[1] Citation required, but I'm tired of being a research monkey. 100% certain it got said though.

Below is the current status with VOP pricing and demand.
Notice how many have little or no demand.

How much would be the paycheck for VO with the "demand" taken into consideration?

edit: cba to take another ss, but UNDER the Engineers label is the Demand for VOPs

Yes buy they allways stated that the Rushes would end automaticly, IF enough people Actualy played the game and did enough mining in the game but the most the prices ever dropped on painite with the current players was around 50K per ton at the station before the status of the system status ended for that system...
So even if it was to drop A lot the secondary deep core item still paid 1.2 million so even if the current system actualy worked with enough users it just meant Benitoite took over for VOs..

Thing is, I can't help but notice this in a single market next door to my home in the bubble:

Is it because this isn't in the Inv/CL/PA state? Likely, but these effects are meant to be gold rushes, not milk runs. I'd argue a majority of players don't even know how to cause these states, they just think these prices are just "market fluctuation"; I'd say that's a fairly reasonable assumption too most people with complainants about this change clearly never tried the change.

Serendibite, Benitoite, Musgravite and Monazite are nothing to balk at when they're in optimal sell conditions(800k-1.2m), and if Void Opals didn't exist, we'd simply be having a discussion about one of these rather than Void Opals.

Why? Because while Void Opals are the "apex" of mining at the moment, all the other prices for minerals in their relevant states are entirely reasonable, strong prices. Of course, these won't suffice for anyone who's mindlessly obsessed with minmaxing everything.

Kindof tragic as well... since Pirate Attack is usually the scarce state which causes these rushes, that the player response to a Pirate Attack is "Go mining!" rather than actually deal with the pirate attack, not that there's much to deal with anyway because it's a half-baked state, but I digress.

This change is just about turning these situations into actual gold-rushes needing some thought, rather than what it currently is which is headbutting void opals and selling at the latest system thrown up on reddit or discord.

Well, LTD seems to be the only ones with high demand. And quite decent prices.
Painite, Benitoite, Serendibite not so much.
Monazite has high demand, but crap prices

Guess i should go back to ⛏

Thank you for the heads up on this. I read your post and watched the DtEA video with interest. Then I went to my mining python to see what difference a fuel scoop would make.

With an optimal scoop I would see my haul halved. Add in the extra transit time and that is a further decrease. So in this case one is talking about cutting profits by 50%+. A suboptimal scoop cuts less of the haul but in the abstract increases the time refueling. How that will impact profits will depend on other factors, but it is still a substantial amount. This is a nerf despite what the fan boys are saying.

Frontier would be far better served by offering something in return for this nerf, such as improving mining in other respect. For instance the ability to scan material laden asteroids. It would not be an exact trade, but it would convey good intent and provide a benefit for the current, poorly designed, game mechanic.

So I suppose it is time I mined for a month before the nerf hammer! Thanks again.

Cheers.

THERE IS NO NEW CONTENT...

Get a grip people.
Fdev are yanking everyone's chain to try cover the fact there's not going to be anything new until next summer, if at all?

Anybody that has already been min/maxing it for the what, months that the current prices have remained reasonably steady despite demand (when a system is in the appropriate combination of states) should already have more money than God and Scrooge McDuck combined anyway. I did about four trips to a double painite hotspot out near Colonia a few weeks back and am currently sitting on a cash float of about 1.8 billion (as well as my 4 billion assets tied up in ships). To be honest I find this concept that anything that doesn't pay out 500m for a couple of hours work isn't worth bothering with to be quite bizarre.

If I was that worried about it (I'm not) I'd just spend the next week mining in the live game. That should bag anybody enough credits to keep them happy for a couple of years.

Thanks, for the kind advice.
Did you try the beta?
Do you still play?
All the usual questions :)

"New Content" is arriving in the January update, even if that which is coming is of no interest to you - I know this because I spent time in the beta and have seen "New Content". sorry :)

How about a little compassion for the lad. All he was trying to do was regurgitate false data that he made up and has no way of clarifying. Remember his sole aim is to encourage others to not like the game, his premise is 'If I am not enjoying myself then no one is going to enjoy themselves either'.

Perhaps I was a little harsh... Playing the beta requires playing the game...
I'll try to be kinder next time 🙀
