FEEDBACK: 2.2.03 Update #4 New VR feature - Enabled dithering for VR to reduce banding.

So nice to finally see VR get a little love.

Doesn't DP fix the black smearing for the Rift? I lost my DP-HDMI adapter so I can't check it and can't remember, but I think I read that somewhere once?

No, just colour banding. The blacks are still too black and the pixels are being "turned off"

Look at the coalsack, wiggle your head in circles and see if the coalsack "bleeds off" a bit into space. Do it in deep space

I have finally been able to test this feature with a Vive, and I did notice subtle gradations of color now look more convincing. I have especially found this to be the case near stars and some planets. It may be placebo talking, but I am fairly sure from my considerable time spent in VR prior to this, that there was a positive change.

Tried low, mid and max, didn't make any difference. The display port thing also made no difference so I guess I could be looking at the "good" result and not knowing what the "bad" result looks like :)

TBH I dont really notice it much.

Completely fixes the problem for me! (DK2 & GXT970) Thanks, and well done.

Now I can't bear to go back to the live version

I too have the CV1, stopped playing so much because of how bad the banding used to be!
With this dithering feature it seems to have eliminated it completely for me!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
FD GUYS this is awesome!!!!!!!!!! The immersion factor has been increased yet agin. I can't thankyou enough!
YOU GUYS ROCK!

How can it eliminate it completely?

I'm annoyed - there is literally no difference whatsoever in my normal and beta games. I get very obvious banding with both instances and I've switched my monitor, enabled full RGB etc. If you have a sun just behind your cockpit view I can physically count the number of colour bands I can see flaring in my window. That's the same in both game instances.

The biggest bug bare for me was when traveling in side dark canyons and dark side of planets I would see horrible banding, also banding around coronas from stars. With this dithering feature it has eliminated all this for me.

Off Topic. For which airline are you flying? :)

Iv got up close to an A class star and have moved around the star, including placing the star behind me. I see no banding what so ever! The glow of the corona is a smooth gradient.

Iv recently had to reinstall oculus home and ED because of a failed hdd so maybe try doing that?

Terrific cannot wait till this drops as.

2.2.03 going live now...

I just watched the skly for a couple of minutes before they shut down the servers. I wonder if it looks any different after the patch as I have no banding issues. But if looks even better than now I will be ready for an exploration trip to Colonia :)
