I tried another run yesterday because I didn't want to end without trying once more. I was approaching the final station and set to drop out of Supercruise a couple of minutes ahead of my previous time, so I knew a good improvement was on the books. But I was coming in a bit too fast, and I was at slightly the wrong angle... I slammed into the rings, run over.

Ah well, I'm not going to be able to have another go because yesterday caused me too much pain for the rest of the day. Thanks a lot to @Kaytianna and @psykit for creating and organising the race, it's been a lot of fun and I earnt more credits than I lost, which is a very welcome change 😅 Just as a side note, poor Bruski needs to be knocked down a couple of spots in the Regulation class ;)

I was struggling to work out how a 25 was possible, so I'm very much looking forwards to seeing the video of that. I was contemplating trying to work a White Dwarf into the run to see if that might help, but I gave up on that :D

I'd like to echo that, my first race and really enjoyed it, loved seeing what is / can be possible within the stock hauler class

Okay, your results are in! We've gone through all of them and we're really happy to share the final results!

Many Congrats to NWSpacek and Bruski! We'll be in touch soon about sending you a prize!

We've learnt some great stuff while doing this race, and have a great idea of how to correct our mistakes when we launch into the next one, but give it a little while, eh?

Stay tuned, we're going to put all of your names into a "hat" and draw one more winner, so bear with us when we do that.

Many thanks!

Psykit and Kaytianna

This was a fun challenge! Quite reminiscent of last year's Real Men Race in Lederhosen with enough differences to shake things up and keep it fresh. Some things learned for next competition too, I think it a few days less to compete, a bit less menuing involved in the start and finish times, and a good first leaderboard update to keep the hype train rolling would make this competition perfect, not that it is not already a memorable and fun one!

It seems the 4th is with me !!!!!

Great race and well done to the winners.

Those podiums were so close lol.

Also noticed that between myself Alec Turner and AkenBosch there was only 30 seconds between us in both races. Now that makes for good racing.

Thanks for hosting a fun race, many of us have been wanting a classic type of race like this for a while now. Hope to see more of this in the future :D

A short write up of "tricks" used from my end in regulation class, I know at least one person wanted to see it:
Unlike a couple of other contestants I didn't use a preloaded neutron boost or any white dwarf boosting. The one significant thing I did was to shave a jump off the last stretch by plotting the route before picking up the last 1 ton of cargo at Lave while being at least 1 ton under topped up on fuel. This is why I didn't complete the whole course many times, my switches over to autopilot and I either hit refuel at Lave or opened the galaxy map after picking up the last cargo (this replots the route and messes everything up).

Entering the hangar while purchasing the goods and launching before the pad actually goes into the hangar also saves a few seconds each time.

I also turned off modules to fly a little cooler, it doesn't save time but it can save your cargo hatch. Another thing that helps on this is running a lower fuel level and filtering only refuelable stars, a lower fuel level means lower mass which means less fuel needed per jump and the less time needed spent at the stars refilling.

Congratulations again to one and all and thanks to Psykit and Kaytiana for organising a really terrific race.

Some great tactics from Shaye there of which I confess I used barely any. What I did do was the low down dirty trick of a getting a pre-start neutron supercharge at Jacksons Lighthouse as illustrated below.

I'm actually delighted (and somewhat relieved) that in the end this kind of cheap shortcut was no substitute for solid racing skills. Also note that we'll almost certainly rule against it in future Buckyball events (god forbid that this tedious bit of prep should become the new meta for time trial racing).
