First exploration

on the guardian search... make sure that you can land your ship as close as possible so if you run into trouble.. run like heck back to the ship and if the sentinels follow.. your ship will obliterate them for you. yes having weapons is a really, really good idea not only for the guardians but for all the material gathering that you will need to do..... gotta shoot items to get them to fall to the ground.
Is there definitive load out or will just beam lasers be good ?

Biggest thing to include in the Guardians is dorsally mounted Point Defense. If the ship is landed properly near the site, the ship will shoot down any missles the Sentinels launch, even when you are not aboard.

Point Defense is a Utility mount, I am sorry, but I don't know the Cobra's arrangement.

EDIT: According to the video on this page (47 second mark), Cobra III has its utility mounts on the ventral surface, so, not helpful there.

below is a chart I used to get my fsd... remember only two items at a time on your srv.... that is a lot of shuttling around

Thank you
I'm off to be now because it's 3am.here in the UK and I have to be at work in 6 hours.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed but I'd like to post my progress in here because you've all been an unbelievable help towards my goal o7

Thank you so much.

I'm off to bed now as it's 3am here in the UK and I have to be at work in 6 hours.

I'm not sure I'm allowed to in this thread but I'd like to inform you all of my progress though this because you've all been a massive help o7

I would suggest you do not wait until you become Elite just to get to Shinrarta... You will wait for ages... Just get all the equipment you need and go... There is no need to do a primer... You will be OK... My first explo trip was when I was one month into the game, no experience, no engineering, no guardian booster and I went to Sag A and then to Colonia...

Just be warned, trip to the Beagle Point is a hell of a trip... Getting to the Beagle Point requires some careful trip planning when in the final 5K ly stage or so... You will probably need some external tool to plan the trip, as the ships computer has often difficulties finding the way...

As was already mentioned: definitely get the AMFU (I carry the small one, only 1000 service points or how to call it, but it is enough, I use it to repair the FSD after neutron jumping).

Regarding guardians: you do not need the point defense, those sentinels are very lame and you can defeat them easily, just do not be scared, manufacture premium ammo for your SRV and you will destroy all of them before they shoot a missile at you...

I Sota Prospect in Brestla also has everything you need, just at slightly higher prices.

Watched the video and it looks really interesting and it seems it will give me some experience in a little exploring.

To your point of speed of exploring, I'm a take as long as it takes kinda bloke because I want to see as much as possible and I want (selfishly) my name on planets and systems
I think you have a great plan. I look forward to reading about you discovering something amazing on your future travels.

An FYI on crossing the Abyss...

Even G1 combined with Guardians on the FSD renders the Abyss much less problematic, but that is, of course, a personal choice.

Also, don't be afraid to deviate from the straight lines before reaching the Abyss; Beagle Point is a well trod path unless you do things like a zig-zag or porpoise meander in your route. My recommendation is to plot a route of... maybe 5 to 8 kLY (or use the Waypoints from an Expedition, they were chosen for visual spectacle), but then to find a point in between that route. Take the focus point off course (laterally - 1 to 2 kLY or vertically - 2 to 3 cLY), I used to say half way but that advice has been given out for a while, so maybe a third on either end.

This way, you are following the Expedition routes, but doing your own at the same time. Most people travel in straight lines, by shortest route, and don't deviate from the horizontal, unless they have to, so if you make angles, while it will take you longer to get to your destinations, it is likely to give you more undiscovered territory.

Couple last words of advice:
  1. always make sure you can continue (especially when neutron jumping - make sure you do not end up in a system where there is no further jump possible)
  2. PAY ATTENTION to PIP management! Especially when landing on a planet!
  3. PAY ATTENTION to gravity index of the planet!
  4. If you get killed, do not immediately rebuy the ship - contact Frontier Support and politely ask them to resurrect you at your location, give it a day or two and see if you get a response. This way you can save the progress and data, especially since you are motivated by tagging the stars and planets. If you re-buy immediately, they will not be able to reinstate you back at your location.
  5. start you chronicles/diaries here and let us know how it goes, share pictures
  6. arrange a meetup with someone along the route to get a bit of fresh air after a long trip (I am currently returning from the Beagle Point, so if interested, we can meet somewhere, just send a friend request in game)
  7. always park your ship in a safe location (not in a path of a planet:)

hope this article can help:

Guardian Material Farming - Simplified™

renderTimingPixel.png

So, you want to fight Thargoids? Or that juicy FSD Booster module? Or maybe just max out all your Guardian materials, you know, just in case? Look no further! I have created some some visual and textual aid which is not a 20-minute video guide with dubstep intros or endless streams of "Hit that like button and subscribe!".

Disclaimer: Despite the title saying it's 'simplified', this guide is still relatively long. But that is the nature of farming these materials, so that everything is clear. I am also well aware of multiple guides having been written out already, but in this particular one I will be focusing on two aspects: friendliness to new(er) players, speed, and safety.

First things first.
  • Your ship: any ship will do, as long as it has two things: an SRV bay with an SRV, and a point defence in the utility slot. Do bear in mind this location is around 1000Ly from the bubble, so obviously higher jump range and a fuel scoop are recommended.
  • The location: planet B 3 at system Synuefe NL-N C23-4, a single guardian structure (so not the 3 instances of ruins). You should try to land close to the structure, preferably a bit higher than the ground level of the structure. This way, the point defence can shoot down the missiles from the Sentinels that spawn around the map.

There are a few things to acquire from this site. I made a comprehensive map which you can find here. Note, this map is mostly used for later farming purposes, so it doesn't include the location of every tower with destructible panels (there are 4 of them), or the separate single destructible panels around the site (ignore these save for one mentioned later).
  • Guardian Module Blueprint Fragments, acquired from the final data vault at the top of the site.
  • 5 different Obelisk Patterns: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon. Acquired from scanning the obelisks with a data link scanner.
  • Guardian Power Cells, Guardian Power Conduits, and Guardian Technology Components: mostly dropped from the 'towers' with 3 destructible panels, and on occasion by Sentinels.
  • Guardian Sentinel Weapons Parts and Wreckage Components: dropped from only Sentinels.

The Module Blueprint Fragments are required by a grand total of 6 blueprints, so 6 full runs of the instance should be enough to never need them ever again. A very in-depth guide to running this site can be found here, however the condensed version without an exorbitant number of screenshots is this:
  1. After landing, make your way to the top of the structure where the data vault is. If you take a direct center path from bottom to top, you will not run into any Sentinels to begin with. If you can, make a detour to one of the pylons that rise from the ground and shoot the glowin assembly on top, and pick up the relic that drops from it. You will need this later.
  2. One of the power pylons will appear from the ground, this is the first one you need to trigger so the others can be triggered to actually come out of the ground afterwards. Shoot the blue glowing orb repeatedly until it plays a sound reminiscent of the THX sound, and move on to the next one according to the map I linked earlier. If you're smart about the Sentinel trigger zones, you will face minimal resistance while doing so.
  3. Once you have all 6 pylons charged, you can head on to the data vault again. Eject the relic you picked up earlier in the glowing area right in front of it, and the data vault will trigger. Give it a few seconds to open, target it, and scan it with the data link scanner. Warning: Sentinels will spawn, although they spawn in the farther reaches of the site, but considering their AI is very stupid, you can largely cheese them from a distance or peek from behind cover to take potshots at them. Your point defense will take care of any missiles, or most of them. When engaging sentinels, keep 4 pips in WEP and 2 in SYS. You don't need a lot of speed since you will mostly be peeking.
  4. Target the data vault, scan it, and you will have a blueprint fragment.
  5. Go just outside the site, relog, and repeat until you have your desired number of Module Blueprint Fragments.

While running this, if you take small detours to both the obelisks as well as the material drop towers, you will most probably max out everything but the tech components and obelisk scan data. This is where the next part comes in.

Guardian Tech Components: the green circles represent guaranteed drop locations for them. The top one is a destructible panel, the tower right under it has 1 panel which drops them, and the last tower has two more. You can drive a route while evading the red Sentinel spawn zones, relog, and repeat the same route backwards until you max them out.

Obelisk Scan Data: this is a bit more tricky considering the drop rate seems rather random. Follow the blue route on the map between all 5 obelisks, the route takes care of evading the sentinels already. Rinse and repeat a forward-backward route with every relog, just like with the tech components. You will most likely max out one of the scan data first, which means that if it drops again, you won't get anything.
Alternative: you can do this entirely risk free at the actual ruins found on some planets too, check the last entry in the credits for this. Reason for this being that I focused on sticking just to this particulat location, as you can get everything here too with quite a similar efficiency.

This should cover everything you can get from this site. If you keep running into Sentinels more often, look where they spawn, and adjust your route accordingly, since their spawn radius on my map is at best an approximate one. Now, if you need the Weapon Blueprint Fragments or Vessel Blueprint Fragments, there are other sites that cover this, but the general tactics remain the same, and at that point, you don't have to worry about any other materials so you can freely just run the 6 pylons and get those only.

If I missed anything please let me know in the comments. I've had great success running things like this, so I hope this helps some people.

good travelling.. be sure to "honk" each system as you go through them... surprising how much credit you will get with 141 jumps.
I have an alter ego: Sarah Sam , he is inbound to the guardian site with only 15 more jumps to go.. also in a cobra MKIII. If he is still around... make a tag team and you will have someone covering your back for you.

I love doing the Guardian unlock, it’s one of the best made parts of the whole experience, it’s also immensely frustrating until you get the hang of driving the SRV well. Hope you enjoy it, it’s pure atmosphere! Don’t know if anyone has directed you to the online star map page EDSM, loads of good info there too. Have a great one!
