Fit fuel scoops and explore infinitely they said... 7 red stars in a row [ragequit]

Love this game for its hardness(ooh eerrr) and to quit after a little thing like blowing up or running out of fuel (driving without due care and attention) is rather childish and should go and play COD as that's so like real life.

Perhaps something on the system map indicating whether a star will provide fuel or not would be useful, instead of expecting people to have a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram to hand.

I would expect someone who plans on sustaining his trip across the galaxy by scooping stars, to at least read a bit of the mechanism
Evidently some people don't
And they get stranded in space

Working as intended, like Darwin explained

LOL I almost blew up during my first scoop, dropped out of SC and spent an... interesting 5 minutes trying to escape the grasp of a fiery death
Was awesome (and pant staining)

We need a distress signal. Ran out of fuel - drop DS, NPC comes in and tractors you to a nearby station. Can't rely on a player for that.

I have noticed that the lower level of the galaxy has an abundance of these types of stars, centre has few, upper level of the galaxy i have yet to test.

I had the same learning curve weeks ago, but never gave up on first go. I was determined to pass through this, so i started a tactic where i fueled up on every system that i could do. I purchased the most expensive scoop to cut time down, then had a doctrine if i couldn't fuel up after i reached 50% of fuel remaining, i then returned back to the last star i fueled up on, using my logs to trace my route back. Then from that star explore another route.
I know managed to penetrate routes through these brown stars for future use.

haha yes, man my dear ship i treated it so bad at my first fuel scoops. and with the basic scoop you really need to get close or wait a LONG time ^^. I upgraded it to a better one and now scooping is so easy i do it while flyby and locking in my next destination ^^

Yup. Always been popular - especially when a game fails. Not the games fault, just all those stupid people that couldn't handle it...

What was his problem?
How bad was the penalty for that problem?
How could that be avoided?
Is it intuitive to discover how to avoid it?

Get the idea?

Look at a problem, look at the penalty at what stage in play. If someone spends a week or so building up to lose a week or so of effort - that's pretty much a 100% loss of everything they did getting into a game. most won't say anything, just disappear so its better to look at the problem, the penalty, the avoidance/solution and how easy it should be to find it.

If its rare, that's one thing. If others come back saying it's a problem then it should be looked into to address some part or parts of the chain so it won't happen so readily to others. Otherwise - that more leave than rage can end up being costly to a game others like.

Nope, not if the game is designed to be so harsh. Look at DayZ. You can lose everything (that means, hours and hours of painful gameplay, if you ask me :) ) in a matter of seconds. And people love that.
The fact that you can lose everything by not planning properly is great. It should be advertised more, though.

Apologies and sympathies to the OP but there's one thing I've been unable to get out of my mind as I read through this thread... :)

"F-I-S-H. That's how you spell fish. Then you just keel over. I'm sure it'll all come flooding back."

LOL

I was in the unupgraded basic sidey
when it got to 100º I said "eh better be carefBANG!"

red inferno, couldn't even see the instruments and had to use temperature to gauge the direction I was going!

I think a distress signal is fine. Just make it a particular range of LY to all ships in range. Let's see how many NPC/player pirates turn up!
Some will try to protect and some will try to own.
Oh and how much did you pay for this service? the minimum? Sorry, will take a couple of hours to respond...
What fun!
Seriously, that's how it should work!

I recall my last exploration trip. I found myself crossing a region that I can only describe as a perpetual headache. A sparse region with longer jump distances between stars and in many cases, the fuel scoop was useless. The amount of times I had to back track and rework my route was a utter grievance and the distance between the stars only grew; forcing me to abandon my trip. I made it back, disappointed but happy.
We live and learn and try again.

In as much as I dislike threads like this, I understand the original posters frustration.

I hope you give it another go; to be the first to jump into an unexplored system and super cruise where no other has super cruised before.

EPIC

To the OP's point, this game needs a manual that you can read through at the beginning, that would give you some education about the universe you are about to embark upon. Not all of us are educated in astronomy, and it would go a long way if they had some basic manual about what you need to know to at least survive.

I miss the good 'ol days, when you used to get a spiral bound manual that had all this information about the game in it. It had all the basics to get you started and to explain how things worked. From that point you could hit the forums and ask questions on different situations you encounter. Nowadays, you get dumped into a game and have to figure it out for yourself, either through vague references on the web site, or posting questions in a forum and many times googling to find the information.
Heck, I'm still unsure about the exploration mechanic, and I've made it probably a third of the way to the coal sack. Do I have to scan everything in the system including asteroid fields? How does what I scan figure into the reward I get when turning it in?

So, while the Op's "uninstall" comment was kind of stupid, I can relate to his frustration in the lack of information on going into the game.

Were you crossing out of our spiral arm? I'm know where near getting my asp, I'm a bit of a ship collector, but this nagging thought of getting to the center of the galaxy might be impossible due to the big gaps between the spiral arms.

Stop giving him grief for something so trivial. Like none of you ever rage quit during a game? Dark Souls made me rage quit constantly (hence why I don't play it), even Elite has made me rage quit but purely due to my own idiocy. The old Nintendo games drove me to such frustration that several control pads still live at the bottom of my parents garden.

I used to line up all my dice in formation, to watch the execution by sledgehammer (or microwave) the dice that had failed me for the last time...

I forget the phrase by Voltaire, but I know from my military training how to make an example out of someone...

Yes, we need a written manual. A big one.

I'm hoping for summer of next year, as the dev's will be busy, busy, busy.
