FIXED !! Can't reach Oculus Runtime Service bug !!

Official patch is out !

This is also a 55MB download, not a full install for those who are worried.

--

Oculus slipped in an update two, now probably three hours ago.

End result.

NOTHING WORKED.
In fact couldn't even get the software to load at all, just defaulted to the "Service not reachable".

After uninstalling and re-installing twice, and trying to repair once, some googlefu led me to this.

https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/com...ulus_runtime_service/?st=jeh414an&sh=9ca9fd8d

And a post for a temp fix.
It's a bleeding certificate error...
Temporary fix is to change your system time to a few days ago since the certificate just ran out today.
Edit: Also run OVRServiceLauncher.exe with -uninstall and then again with -install -start after changing the date or just restart your system.
Just set my date back a to the fourth of February, restarted the service and voilá Oculus starts.

I can add that after the first re-install I should also be out of beta, and now that it is working again, I do not have the dash interface in VR either.
But the problem persisted.

I'm sure many of us here finds setting an erronous date as a pretty big deal, luckily my machine is nothing but a toy, but if I was using this for something more productive, having an accurate time&date set in OS would be paramount.

Here's hoping Oculus fixes soon.

Cause running on an old date will mess up authentication with online services.

Including the loging in to Elite.

If I'm quick though I can get into game, but having left the launcher open for a few minutes before starting the game and it would refuse to log me into the main menu.

From the Oculus forum thread, 15 minutes ago:

"Just let my Oculus software update and the OculusAppFramework.dll file has a new certificate, so after that you can set the time back to normal."

HTH - I may have to try it this evening.

Good, but it doesn't seem that update has hit me yet.
Going back to "now" and I keep getting the error.

Do you have a link to the actual thread, can't seem to find it myself.

I see nothing that hints at that person being anyone from Oculus.

There is no patch so far available to me, and I just rejoined public beta, and updated to it.

Problem persist.

Update.

In fact. His how to is simply changing the time, restarting the OVRservice, and launching the oculus runtime with admin privileges.

Something we have known already.

Wow is this the same old story nor lack of information from OCULUS.
I got to at least give the Developers here some real thumbs up. Last time OCULUS dropped the ball it took them almost 4 days to return some information about a ticket regarding the last ED update. The developers here however returned my inquiry in less than a half hour and had me back in the virtual seat. Don't know if the other VR product has better customer service but this team at ED rocks.[yesnod]

Yeah, but this isn't about one game.

The entire rift plattform is completely down, and all HMD's are bricked unless you are prepared to run back the clock.
For a lot of people who uses their pc for anything but games, and even for games now, that's not really acceptable.

Nope you are very correct and while Im only concentrating on ED here on their forum there is still no service for an entire global client base of users no matter what the application. Man that is just an immense ball drop:x
On the other hand I just heard from OCULUS on their forum and e-mail(ticket),they won't say any ETA but are aware. This may not be much of an update but the fact that I heard from them at all and they acknowledged a problem is a far better result since my last non help (crickets in the background) experience with them. Who knows,...we may all be back in the void as well as other games soon.
Happy thoughts:O

LOL. At least they woke up and issued an official statement:

https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/62715/oculus-runtime-services-current-status#latest

Unfortunately, the reason behind this mess is a software certificate, so they'll have not only to get a new one (which only takes minutes), but also re-sign & deploy (at least) that OculusAppFramework.dll. This may take hours even if they have to only pass a limited QA lifecycle again, that is, after properly identifying what else may be outdated. But then, 360 degrees security is priceless!

Hope it works again when I get home, 2D is so 3299.

O7,

Had the same thing this morning, Oculus software wouldn't load unable to reach the runtime server. Repaired it... Still nothing.

Went to Oculus support and there's a large red banner at the top saying they are aware of an / the issue and working on a fix.

I happen to have other things to do today, so hopefully it'll be fixed when I next want to play. :)

Especially since this was issued with todays lapse date in 2015.
They have had nearly three years to get a new one.

No question, someone dropped a ball.
And now, the excuse that "our costumers are early adopters, they can handle it" isn't going to hold any more.
Time to step up Oculus and get out of a Beta mindset.

Edit, scratch that, only appears to allow the oculus app to open, will not allow elite to run, have set my date back which is working.
