Fleet Carrier FAQ

Not sure if already mentioned, but if you bookmark your fleet carriers location in the System view. The bookmark tracks wherever the FC jumps. Quick and handy way get back to your FC if you've been exploring!

We've found it very useful in the Squadron as well, seeing everyone's FC locations as squadron bookmarks in real time. Gives me oases of cartographic data safety on my explorations!

I understand correctly that I cannot sell only a part (given amount) of a commodity? Either everything or nothing. This is stupid.

Strictly, you can only set up a sell order for everything or nothing. In reality, albeit being a bit risky, you can watch the cargo levels and cancel the order once some of whatever you want sold is sold. However, someone pointed out that server lag can sometimes result in static amounts then sudden drops, so only do this at your own risk.

Another alternative is that if you want to keep back less of something than would fit in one of your ships (a T9 can hold nearly 800 tons), you could transfer out what you want to keep, sell the rest in full, revoke the sell order (important!) by setting up a buy order then cancelling that, and then transfer back what you kept.

2 quick questions.

Are the FC cosmetics available to view in the store before you buy an FC? I have looked but cant find them.

I see a lot of FCs with some random stuff in the name such as HMS XloubellXX Fjt65432, is the last bit compulsory?

Thank you.

The Livery store is in Carrier Admin - there are in-game previews

Nope. Carriers do have an ID - which you can't change. But that's not in the name

The carrier ID (two sets of three alphanumerics; for example, mine is "X8X-74W") is not part of the name but is always displayed on the system map, navigation tab and selection marker after the name given to the carrier by the player. If the carrier has livery showing the name, the ID is not shown there, though.

I think it's done this way so that players don't misrepresent themselves as another carrier. Regardless of name, you can always be sure you're going to (or are docked on) the correct carrier by checking the ID.

Ah, good to know, thanks.

I'm struggling to find the answer to a few FC queries.

How many ships can a Cmdr store aboard their FC? Is it governed by the landing pad layout i.e. 8 Large, 4 Medium and 4 small? Can it be any combination that adds up to 16 ships e.g. 16 small ships or is there no limit?

If the shipyard option is enabled but without ships to purchase, this, to my understanding, allows other Cmdrs to store ships onboard. Are they governed by the 8,4,4 rule or can they store as many as they want? Or is it only the one ship they arrived in?

Same question regarding module storage. If I enable outfitting is there a limit of module storage that is less than the 120 maximum that everyone has or can every Cmdr store up to 120 modules onboard or is it only the owner that can store modules?

To illustrate a point. If I'm heading out to, say, Colonia and there are 20 Cmdrs coming along for the ride how many ships and modules can they bring? Is it one ship and no modules or is it 16 ships and no modules or is it unlimited ships and no modules or is it any other combination?

I may have missed a simple explanation to all of this but I've looked everywhere including Steam {{shudder}} and I haven't found an answer.

It's a shipyard - it works the same as other shipyards.

If you don't fit outfitting only you can store modules. Because only you will have access to outfitting.

Thanks for the clarification. So it's a TaRDiS with guns. Crazy.

Acording to Inara; there are, at least, between 13,500 and 13,600 Carriers in the game. Are they all active or have some decommissioned?

Sorry, A little bit shocked/impressed at the number.

I'm pretty sure there are more than that. Not everyone can be bothered to make an account to inara and sync stuff there.

That number may have been inflated by 'the great carrier id change of 3306'.

Current numbers https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/fc-usage-charts.551637/ indicate there are only a few thousand actually moving around, but as Northpin says, not all are in inara (you can get an idea of how many are by looking in a system and comparing with Inara - I found (from memory) something like 30% of the Colonia FC were present, but only 10% in Diso - though both of those are pretty high - and they will ofc vary).
