Ships Fleet Carrier "Upkeep costs" are asinine!

My carrier has a 16M weekly cost.

If I don't play for 6 months it effectively costs me almost half a billion credits. That's not trivial. And to @Agony_Aunt point, that's a fair amount to recover for a player retutning from a break.

Yes I could suspend some services. But I can't count on doing that. I often don't plan gaming breaks... I just stop playing for a while.

I considered upkeep cost part of the carrier purchase cost. Whether I scrounge the money now or later, whats the difference? So I included 4 years of upkeep cost in my original fund raising. With casual playing and the credits I gain from activities and lots of breaks that should cover me until I'm dead.
that really is trivial look just a few posts back I show how I was able to make that in only about 2 hrs. just doing t9 trading.

That's because you are amazing and extraordinary. :ROFLMAO:

To many players a half billion credits is not trivial. Including players that are casual on/off players. And if you are like me, +25,000 Ly from human space what you are suggesting is simply not possible. But anywhoo... what is possible is for players to proactively raise a big bank of credits. They gotta raise the credits sometime... now or later. If there is uncertainty then now is better. And it is much easier to raise large quantites in a batch and while the game is fresh in your mind, not after a +6 month break.

Edit: I am reasonably confident that Frontier is not going to change the upkeep cost game mechanic in the near future. If ever. So for players that want a carrier but aren't certain about ability to reliably afford the upkeep costs.... bank several years of upkeep. If an on/off player can't raise the money right now how do they think they raise it later?

Im a casual player and by the time you make 5b making even 1b isn't hard.

not really I generally take anywhere from 7-14m breaks as I wait for something to be happening in/with the game. each time I have come back its been easier to raise the money thanks to Fdev constantly increasing payouts for nearly every activity.

any time im out from the bubble I do get plenty banked up. and it does require you to be more active generally needing to spend 1h minimum a week to make a weeks worth of upkeep. though everything is harder well out of the bubble.

People still go on about how easy it is to grind the credits for the upkeep. Meanwhile not a single reason was given why they want it to stay in the game or what good it adds to the game. 🤷‍♂️

All your ships in one place.
Can jump 500ly.
Place for extra cargo. (I don't want to fly around with for example thargoid probe/sensors in my ship, etc)
Possibility to trade goods with it. East India Company Traders are using this now mostly, before it was with limpet transfer.
You can trade Odyssey materials with it.
Some cmdrs have parked their carrier in the deep black, so other cmdrs can do a repair etc
You can use your carrier for BGS purposes

I wasn't talking about the FC itself but the upkeep.

The people at your carrier must be paid, same like your crewmember.
And making credits ingame is soo easy, one mining mission for example bertrandite give you 50mil and good thing is you don't need to mine it + you can share that type of mission.

I'm doing BGS stuff and such credits things comes naturally.

uhh people have pointed out the reason all through this thread what are you talking about? Its a way to remove carriers of players who have abandoned the game all together.

It's debatable how effective it is at that, however it is also a money sink that helps offset the massively increased earnings potential a fleet carrier affords players.

it definitely better at removing carriers than it is as a money sink.
