News Focused Feedback Forum Content Schedule

That's a little disappointing. :(

Chapter 1 came so quickly in Q1 that we''re a little spoiled here. Q2 already started and the FF is being delayed. Will we even see chapter 2 in Q2 I wonder?

In fairness, all the scheduled FF topics are for Q4 anyway. That said, I hope we get the mining one very soon.

hahahaha.....it is planned for the end of the year, nothing is concrete so no work has been done yet and there's already delays.
it's Horizon's all over again.

Here's a kerraaazy idea, have more than one focused feedback topic going at the same time.
Given just how many posts a single FF topic generates, I expect they want to space them out so that they can actually read the feedback. Squadrons got 750 posts, plus hundreds more in the non-sticky threads. Powerplay got about 1400 posts, plus non-sticky threads again.

That's a lot to read through, categorise, and check.

Oh. I recommend a peppermint tea. :)

So, you're ok to do strawman arguments that have nothing to do with what other person said but when I prove you wrong because you are talking pure I need a peppermint tea? Well, at least you removed that lie from your signature.

also, being condescending when you have nothing to add really shows your caliber.

Loads of work would have already been done on both mining and exploration content.

according to what evidence?

They can't even tell us what's in the patch they're supposedly releasing "sooner than you think."

and the focus feedback hasn't even been a laid out plan just a "how do you think it should work." Which, I'm not sure how to say anything other than "we aren't sure where to start, so why don't you as a community start planning for us."

We certainly hope so, but to be truthful we honestly don't know that for sure. Unless you have some secret insider information?

Remember when eddie Symons talked about the Holo-me and the camera suite whithout naming it openly saying that the works was going on for 1 year before.
I think Frontier have done lot's of work regarding Beyond Q4 and the next season 2019 + premium. Without that the game will crash fast at this rate. Don't think so.

Because it would be impossible for the programmers to create the tools and then the designers to design in a few months. It's impossible. A lot of work would already have been done, then the focused forums are there for the minor details. The mains stuff will be done or will be in the process of doing it now.

The programmers and tool makers will probably be working on stuff for 2019 at the moment.

Can't win, can they :) Put out a broad outline early on and get accused of "not having a plan". Put out a detailed proposal and then implement it and get accused of "already having written the whole thing and what's the point in giving feedback when they won't change anything."

I presume they're also getting enough *useful* info out of FFF that it's worth it to them anyway.

Any news on the mining forum focus discussion.

I know its only been a bit over 24hrs but you have shut down money making schemes quicker than that; so we know you can react quickly when you wanted to.........O ok, I guess that explains it.

They messed up on the mining date as they forgot the BH, I think they talked about it in the lunchtime livestream, but I wasn't paying attention because ... mining. Soon, I would imagine (and Carriers to follow. While I tend to agree with Ian that they are asking us for details, and a lot is already designed, I do wonder why they couldn't share their ideas for Carriers alongside Squadrons as they certainly synergise).

If FD would really expect to discuss "minor details" with us as you say, they should have explained the major and ready content upfront, otherwise we'd just driveling into the void of speculations (what's happening right now). Since they didn't, some serious doubts are advisable.

They will do when the focused forums drop. Just wait for them and see the major mechanics, the rest will be for the focus forums. It was the same for squadrons. They told us the basic mechanics, they have the focus forums to fine tune it.

The fact that they had to delay a forum post which would give us a basic idea of what they have planned isn't exactly inspiring.

I thought the same thing this morning, but if that's the case, it wouldn't hurt if it was explained. Something like "Sorry, but mining FF has to wait because we're overwhelmed by the responses from the previous FF and need to sort it through before we get the mining and exploration."

Wouldn't hurt? I would predict a forum response of: "Raaar! Focus on pew-pew again! SMASH puny explanation!", based on what's already been said...

And there are certainly types of delays where Frontier absolutely couldn't tell us the details - e.g. the developer who does mining has just been signed off work with a medium-term health condition. In that case there's no technical or process reason behind the delay but it would be an illegally-bad breach of confidentiality to reveal anything about the actual cause, especially on a public forum. So all they can do in that sort of case is say "delayed, more news later".

I think the opposite. It's worse to say, "FF for mining cancelled until further notice" without explanation than to say "It's been overwhelming with the responses we got, so we're just pushing it back a week."

Besides, 90% of the things added to Elite is pew-pew. Explorers and miners are eagerly waiting for some new tech and expanded features, and perhaps even make mining a profitable business again.

True.

But leaving it open, now another explanation could be "We have to hold off on mining FF because the guys who were supposed to work on it had to step in on the JW project and we don't know when they can be freed up again."

Sometimes, it could benefit to even confabulate a little like saying "we're overwhelmed with the responses" instead of "we care more about this other projects so you guys have to wait." Now, it's all up to speculation.

I still don't get why in this specific order. Wouldn't the other way around be a lot more logical?

Because they can't leave it to the community to come up with the basics of the feature as we will all have different ideas. FDev have to do the basics an then leave it to us to fill in the finer details. It's the best way in my view otherwise nothing would get done as they wouldn't have a clue which idea to go with.

They have seen tons of ideas on the forums, they will pick the best and most achievable version themselves. It's the only way to do it in my view otherwise it just becomes a nightmare of forum fighting.

Also, there's been open general discussions over the years that they've paid attention to and incorporated in the updates. For instance, the new inventory system and ship based bounty were things talked about at least a year ago on the forum, and that's what we got in 3.0. So, they're listening, and incorporate ideas that's been explored on the forums before the FF starts.
