So tomorrow we learn just what the Squadron feature is going to be. I’m sure we all have lots of questions about it, seeing how Frontier hasn’t said much about it yet. I know for myself, I’ll be looking to find answers to the following questions of mine:


  1. Will fleet carriers have more purpose than simply combat? Are they useful to miners and explorers and traders too?
  2. Can fleet carriers be owned by one person, or only by groups? And if only by groups then what size groups?
  3. How many credits will fleet carriers cost? Or will they be purchasable in the Elite Store for cash instead?
  4. Will fleet carriers be customizable? And if so in what ways? How much of the customizing will be in game and how much will be in the Elite Store?
  5. How many ships can dock in a fleet carrier at one time?
  6. Will fleet carriers have weapons of their own, or will the ships they carry be the only defense?
  7. Will fleet carriers be mission hubs? And if so, can the owner of the carrier tailor what missions are offered?
  8. How will fleet carriers move? Are they like Mega Ships where they only move on Thursdays during server ticks?
  9. How are fleet carriers maintained? If they are damaged how do you repair them? How are they refueled?
  10. How many fleet carriers can be in one location at a time?
  11. Will there be different kinds or types of fleet carriers? Different sizes?
  12. Will Squadrons have an in game common chat channel between the members? If so, will it be local only or galaxy wide?
  13. Will Squadrons have some manner of in game group news or information page?
  14. Will Squadrons have some means to all play in a common instance together? Or will they need to abuse the wing mechanics to force everyone together like we do now?
  15. Will Squadrons have member ranks?
  16. Will Squadrons have progression paths? Meaning will there be perks and abilities which the group can collectively work together to improve the Squadron?


Anyone else have questions they are hoping to see satisfying answers for?

Plus, Will squadrons includes NPC crew? Please FDEV ;)

will there be anything in squadrons for those not interested in guild content? will there be npc squadrons, possibly one given to each faction in a system, So i dunno,

Ega Purple Crew may be a pirate faction so i could join their squadron, and do "piratey stuff" and have access to their megaship,

Estarna Prison Colony would have a prison megaship so perhaps i would do security type missions for them taken from their megaship

or

Elivagar for Equality are a Federal Democrisy minor factuon so they have their own flavour as well

etc etc

or is it just going to be multiplayer only content (again) like wings and ships crew and CQC?

People was give you feedback and what they need since game release. Read posts since then and you will know what to do... I don't have time now to write everything again to you.

So who's ideas should they implement on the forums, there are literally thousands of them and loads of them are conflicting ideas.

First they should do their own ideas from kickstarter. People are waiting for this since game release too. My point is giving them feedback is time wasting, because they don't even use Braben's ideas... Those ideas made me and many others to buy this game. Where are those futures now six years from this video?

A MkII DDF, or something similar. Awesome! Perhaps we solo players will now be included in all the topics to be "discussed". I'd like an NPC crew to take part in squadrons and MC in general, or add to immersion. I also may be pleasantly surprised this time. :)

I wouldn't hold your breath. I'm not going to :(

It's about time NPCs fill the gaps where Players aren't available 24/7 (or aren't trusted or don't fit the Playstyle).

After all, NPCs never suffer from Instancing issues and are on call 24/7, 365 days a year. And up for every Task, no matter how mundane, exciting or boring.
(and heck, we pay them anyway all the time, right ? :D )

Now you change the goal posts. Brabens ideas are just that, ideas. We all hope they will come to pass. But asking the team to implement what the players want is not the best idea.

All those things are going to take a long time to realise if they come. I also want that, but I won't hold FDev to ransom over it. If it comes, great, if not, as long as the main game is made better overall then I can live without it.

But we know Atmospheric Planets are coming. Not too sure if they will have life, may have basic life on them, but they are coming. As to earthlikes, again to get these right (not like NMS), it is a huge task. Again, we need to be patient on this stuff as it takes a long time to create and get right. And the same goes to space legs.

I think the community are deserved an updated video from DB, commenting on the original from the Kickstarter. I've not seen that video before, and having just watched it, it certainly sounds fantastic! In reality, yes they have made a great game, but it is a far cry from the ideas mentioned in the video.
If there have been technical challenges preventing the game going the way they had hoped, or lack of money or whatever, then be upfront about it and don't leave us hoping for something that may never happen.
I do love the game anyway, I pretty much play nothing else, but please let us know what is likely to happen, what is not, and perhaps what the lifespan of the game is likely to be.
Remaining silent about it just says to people that you don't want to say, becuase we won't like the answer!
 
For me, there's a few things that I think they can add to create more *colour* for the game. Far better graphical & audio indications for the principal System State. If I drop into a System at War, I want to know it *instantly*. Lots of wreckage sites, loads of military ships trying to interdict me, lots of pleas for assistance-by both sides, lots of Dynamic Conflict Zones & facilities that look like they've copped a beating. Outbreak, Retreat & Famine Systems should have lots of Aid Convoys criss-crossing it, lots of pleas for food/medicine/credits from passing NPC's, meaningful Checkpoints (i.e. that are actually able to force Commanders to slow down or even drop out of Super-Cruise) & facilities that look run-down and/or depopulated.

Better visual & audio indications of your standing with a Faction/System & a way to cash in your standing for special, one-off benefits.

More ways to interact with the galaxy, both by giving us new modules for hacking/decoding/translating & by giving us simple text options (like bribing Security ships not to scan you, sending out distress calls, demanding cargo......that kind of thing).

I agree with all this. And I'd add that they could make a lot of the system states, factions, powerplay things a lot harder to ignore if they were illustrated, infographically on the (long-awaited!) Orrery View. If you could see the influences of different factions visually, who owns what, whether they're at war with other factions, see how conflict zones relate to the ownership of planets etc... Also lines to indicate the paths of ships throughout a system, maybe indicating where people are being interdicted. Being able to SEE the interactions within a system would do loads to bring it to life. It baffles me that so much of the interesting stuff in ELITE is presented in lists of text. Surely there's a graphics person at Frontier who would be itching to do this stuff (I'm a graphics person and I'd be itching to do it!).

It would give you something to ponder when you arrived in a system and make players feel like they were actively investigating things.

I agree. It's what I have wanted to see for a long time. There is a lot of depth in ED, but 90% of it is completely hidden from view. I don't think it would actually take much to see all that depth either. Very frustrating.
