Formidine Rift... what is it?

Page 18 has some interesting tidbits about the RR line. I'm slowly making my way out there myself. My conda can make just shy of 29ly and cost a pretty penny. 7a scoop makes for some quick top ups but a heavy price tag. I have a feeling the more eyes and minds on this the better.

I'll have a look, thanks :)

I think I have a decent build in mind, not max jump range but comfortable. Here's what I'm thinking of http://coriolis.io/outfit/anaconda/...2U1mQMUA==.EwBhEYy6vVgMxVNRYAsQ?bn=FNS Virtue

This is what I'm out here in. I'm not so sure that light of an armament would do you much good in any sort of a fight though, it could be worth adding a few more guns, or leaving them out entirely for that little bit of extra range. The anaconda just doesn't manouver well enough to keep such a light punch on target long enough to tell. Although some guns could be better than no guns... time will tell

Ah, I forgot I hadn't changed the weapons. Ill be fully armed. Never know what will happen and I'd rather be prepared, though these shields won't defend much.

A nice build ya got, Im thinking of adding the 7d thrusters. It's an exploration kit but dropping to 5D may be more than I can bare. This 'conda is definitely out of my normal and completely new to me. The hardpoints are odd, but I'll get used to that.

She packs a good punch and can be built as a true multi role. The poor maneuverability does take some getting used to though. This is my first long trip out of the bubble with it though. Treat it well and she will do what you want her to do.

So I'm on my way to what's hopefully the rift and I can see what another commander has put in this thread about an arrow. Seems it's the NGC 7822 NEBULA. And I agree.....it's looks like it was put there. It's far out of the way and seems nothing to do with the rift but it shines so bright!

I visited a very similar cluster on the way to the core. Lots of big type O stars and black holes, but apart from being spectacular it was nothing special. Sigh.

Can someone clarify for me: Is the Formandine Rift the dark gap between the spiral arms, or is this just the area of space we think has "the" Formandine Rift inside it?

I know what you mean picommander! The sheer scale of what frontier have done is astounding. From the first elite on my commador 64.....to frontier on my 1meg upgraded amiga. Elite really has had a massive impact on my life. Then there's E.D .....with what the cannon guys have had to do to figure out the UA's. ....and now Drew's comments on this thread about the rift. My God I'm hooked!
And people say there's no depth to the game..HA!
I kind of feel sorry for these people. Lots of people who play the game won't even know about these mystery's. I hope educating ED do another cannon.....and name mention the rift. Would be nice to try and point people to the thread's from the launcher maby.

I am aiming for inside the rift itself....Drew's hints have me really leaning towards inside rather than behind the rift. He's says the engineers will make it a bit easier. But he could just mean quicker to get there....not to find a path into it....oh the mistery! Stupid real life gets in the way. Wife work pff! ...thay don't understand I have a galaxy to explore!!!! :D
Very interesting about the vail nebula. I'll look at that when I get home.

So... I've been thinking about Drew's hints here and... here are my conclusions:

1. It is there to be found in game in ED.
Whatever we are looking for is not in one of the permit systems/sectors. It is out there somewhere and can be found now. No need for any future updates. It's there NOW.

2. You do not need 'Horizons' to find it as it was finalized long before 'Horizons'.
See item one. This confirms that we are looking for something that is currently accessible inside the game.

3. Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking.
Now... this one requires some thought. Drew further said, "It's not locked to a rank. All you need is wanderlust, patience and an ability to read between the lines."
That last bit... "an ability to read between the lines" is, I believe, a most important clue. Perhaps the answer is to be found through a careful reading of the official novels. Kate Russell's "Mostly Harmless" mentions the Prism system and Salome. Perhaps the pages of all (or some) of the books contain clues that, put together, will help us adventurers discover what lies beyond the rift? If this is the case then reason why it "depends entirely on who goes looking" is because the person who finds it will need to have been someone who has read the books and found the clues.

I agree. And am reading them asap. It could also mean between the spiral arms....inside the rift. I've read on this thread that in the books..the old woman says something like she went as far as the rift. No one has been through it. Then there's the "core" of the problem clue. As for what some commander's have done researching the names...this is beyond me. I'll have to keep track of what others find on this aspect as my dyslexia hinders me.

Then there's the dark wheel. But to get rep with them you need elite rank to get into the system...so I've scrubbed that out as we don't need a rank.

elite rank
Im close to elite rank, but may not go looking for it until i hit

If anyone does find something....Let's not shoot it eh? :)
I read somewhere that David B has said how things go with the thargoids depends on what happens when we encounter them hahah..

Let's not start an interstellar war :p

I thought it was ralaxxia or something. Gateway to another place? I Must.....read.....books....

Well the counter - just for balance, you understand ......

Le's start an interstellar war - this will supply emergent game play and unite PvE and PvPers together, Dogs and Cats hugging, Code and Morphius in the wing.

Or not.

From what i recall right now we have:

1.Raxxla - the mystery planet with gateways to other galaxies/universes
2.Formidine rift - a "place" that we dont know what it is
3.Unknow artifacts/Barnacles - most likely thargoid related

Then theres the Generation ships, rogue ai, other alien species...

Ahhh OK. Raxxla I will have to read up on. I don't think I can add anything to the artifact/barnacle mystery. The lengths the cannon have gone to get as far as thay have is well beyond what I can do.
But the rift...THAT is something I can get my teeth into. And the other thing's you mentioned, oh my! :D

You can add "the Missing" / lost colonies to your list.
