Formidine Rift... what is it?

There is bound to be an Engineer who boosts Jump Range, making the hard to reach systems available to more.
Not everyone has a Conda stripped down to its underwear

A poke around for Drews Egg is on my list, but not till I have done the Exploration Engineers

He has gone on to say it's been possible since launch, so I don't think we need an engineer to reach. Unless, as you say, it was possible since launch, but only in a Conda..

I'd love to think it was somehow related to the UAs and their ship scanning - looking for a specific type of ship. But I think that's probably a bit too exotic and fanciful..

Drew, does the home planet from Hassan and Sushil have a name? Can't remember having seen it in the book. And is that planet/system in-game?

This planet was the last stop from Salome and Hassan on their way out, and was supposed to be near the border of human space...

Would love to find and visit it!

You have to consider what functionality for fancy cool things there was at release. i.e. Sod All
You can dream that it is an abandoned station
It would be wonderful if it was a PPOI like Voyager, but could be a sod to find now that the range is down to 1kls
Its more likely to be a named planet (that we have not tried a correct search for on GalMap), which would be cool enough

If this is true and as we know that rank isn't a requirement then this would rule out all ships that require a certain rank (lot's of 'if's :p).

Well SOB, you got me there. I didn't even think of that ship as being rank locked, because I wasn't thinking about those ranks! Maybe he wasn't referring to the the Power ranks, but the Pilots Federation rankings? I think that a ship is the right way to look at it, but which one....

I'm joining the search! Please don't take any of this as concrete theories, this is just some thinking I've been doing:

-If the Galnet articles about Kahina have anything to do with this, that may be a supporting argument for the Eclipsing Binary theory-- she went to Sol and said the trip was "most enlightening" before outfitting a ship for exploration. Sol would be a pretty good place to tell if stars are eclipsing binaries, right? ...Has anyone scoured the Galnet articles for clues yet?
-If it's on the far side of the Rift, then we really do need to know which gap is the rift. Because that could rule out the Heart Nebula if it's not the closer gap.
-Then again, Drew did describe it as a "quest," so we might need to visit multiple locations in the galaxy to find it.
-I wonder if it's in a signal source.

most enlightning could also refer to the brightest stellar object

Some quick thoughts before I go back to lurking.

From what Drew has implied it would seem that ship jump range is a factor. Given the fact that whatever we are looking for has been in the game for awhile (prior to Horizons) we shouldn't need the synthesis of increased FSD material to get to it (depending on the ship flown). Also, given that it isn't rank locked I'd assume that we don't need to be in an imperial ship.

On the note of imperial ships the name of the imperial courier/clipper flown was the "Seven Veils". Someone (on another thread) had followed that to a biblical reference of the dance of the seven veils but missed the Seven Veils of unreality reference.

Which I totally knew about before I googled things *cough* (copy and pasted from: http://www.patheos.com/Library/Sufism/Ritual-Worship-Devotion-Symbolism/Symbolism)

In the 12th century, Sufi commentator Rashid al-Din Maybudi wrote a treatise entitledThe Unveiling of the Mysteries, in which he enumerated seven veils: reason, knowledge, the heart, the self, senses, desire, and will.

Heart and self. Heart and soul... might be a stretch, and I have no idea what the others could represent or be. Perhaps, as more is revealed, this may be more relevant.

Final note: The link I sent to beanseller (http://var2.astro.cz/EN/brno/eclipsing_binaries.php) does have a cross reference of the star names. You just have to click the name again and it takes you to the cross reference with stars that actually may be named in the ED galaxy. It is, ah, not as user friendly as I'd like but it is a nice list of all eclipsing binaries. Hopefully that isn't considered cheating by Drew :)

I think the reference to the Seven Veils is more metaphorical than any sort of clue. I think Drew is saying we need Reason to see the hints he has provided, Knowledge to apply those hints into Elite universe, the Heart to work towards the answer, the Self refers to being properly prepared for the journey, and the Desire and Will to see the journey to its end.

OK, here's a long shot re Drew's latest clue: "who".
The only people to find the Formidine Rift so far have been the old lady and Salome'. Both women. All the thargoids are female too. Maybe you've got to be a woman? /me changes pilot gender in graphics settings.

Hang on, how do we know Salome' found the Rift? Was it in a novel or on GalNet news?

Good point ... The old lady claiming she found it was in Drew's book "Reclamation" ... "Salome" and Hassan went looking for it ... and we assume they found it... but the novel ends before we know for sure... muhahahaha
Im going to have to go over all this again... :)

Planning is for those that can't think quick enough! I lined up from Reorte to Riedquat and will ... just keep going.

I swapped my Type-6 for a Cobra (@ 22 LY of range). Have SRV, so hope to get an FSD boost or 2, as I suspect my range is a bit short to leave one arm and head to another.

Any hints on world types to get the FSD jump boost sorted, not got either of the needed components.

Cheers.

Simon

Guys,

Im trying to get access to the children of Raxxla private page. Im a member, but there is some log in problem for that section. Could someone kindly PM me the name of the "named system" over by the Rift?
Please don't write it here.

That would be awesome.

Ditto. Been a pending member for a while now..

Hang on, how do we know Salome' found the Rift? Was it in a novel or on GalNet news?

We don't.

Here's salome's story as I can summarise from the end of the book / galnets.

part-way through the book (329x?) chats w/ old lady who went there and back again ~50 years ago
epilogue (3301) she gets in her "seven veils" and heads out for the formidine rift.

I've just finished reading through all the galnet articles on her and making summaries and conclusions:

09/02/3301 Kahina's going to Sol. gets interdicted. doesn't like being late.
06/03/3301 Docking at mars. causes a fuss. doesn't like being late.
09/03/3301 docking at mars causes a fuss doesn't like being late. again!
15/03/3301 has an imperial escort of cutters. says feds are unwelcoming
17/03/3301 tour "outer gas giants in the sol system"
20/03/3301 goes to earth via mars. makes fuss at mars again
27/03/3301 Alioth invites her to visit. she's in cambridge. london. earth. sol
02/04/3301 she has some drinks at london
02/04/3301 departs sol. returns to empire systems. says sol was "most enlightening"
02/05/3301 Avalon shipyards show her upgrading the seven veils' drive, shields, and fsd
06/05/3301 departs avalon (for Achenar?)
12/05/3301 seen 11/5 in Capitol on Achenar
17/05/3301 seven veils confirmed to have upgraded fuel scoop and disco scanner
21/07/3301 missing. not spoken to ppl in a month. left seven veils, stripped it of parts, left behind. avalon improvements fakes (drives, shields, fsd). tiara left behind. and medalian w/ dark wheel symbol and "salome"

Conclusions:
- She hears about the Formidine Rift
- At some point before or during the below, she hacks into galnet and gets the coords for the Formidine Rift, and decks out the Seven Veils for an adventure
- She causes a fuss at Mars High several times
- She explores Sol's outer gas giants
- She got a fake drive, shields, and FSD upgrades at Avalon on may 2
- She got real Scoop and Disco Scanner upgrades on may 17
- She ditches the 7 veils, keeps it's scanner and scoop, and runs off in some other ship

On the description by the old lady: `You need a tough ship and more than enough talent behind the guns.`
On the Seven Veils description from the epilogue: `It was also a warship; a variety of weapons jutted from the twin engine nacelles, missiles lurked, half hidden in the lower hull, poised to fly.`

Does this get us any closer to understanding drew's comment `Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking.`... maybe?

@ Cmdr BeanSeller: Did you read the "Children of Raxxla" by Alessia Verdi ? (Available online) You will find the events of July and August of 3301 in it. I think Drew himself approve it.

I can login ok. Can someone who is having an issue pm me your details and I'll take a look.

I'll need your CoR username and the error message you see. It's likely something permission related
