Formidine Rift... what is it?

Drew somewhere said that 'parts of the rift have been explored' - suggesting that we are in the correct region, but didn't find all of the rift yet. His quote is somewhere in this thread, I think.

EDIT: found it
Many have gone looking and the Rift has been explored in part, however I'm not aware that anything significant has been found yet.

Cheers,

Drew.

Rho Cassiopeiae

It was mentioned in the latest volume of the Canonn threadnaught. You will need some frame shift drive injection thingys to get there though (and enough to get back out again).

Nice, I'll have a look at the galaxy map. My build is almost complete. Only have one thing left, the A6 frameshift drive and I have to dig up some more cash for it. I have 16 mil left and it cost's exactly that xD

Looks like I'll be getting over 32ly per jump. Would like better range, but I didn't feel comfortable with dropping so low on power plant and thrusters. I might lose the vehicle bay and do some more modifying to see what I can squeeze out of it.

We don't really know where the rift is, do we? Those locations marked on maps are where we think the rift is.

My recollection is that Drew confirmed that Erimus' map has a pretty good location for the general area of the Rift, in, err, other discussions elsewhere some time ago. Yeah, that's it. Possibly even on these very forums, but I cannot recall now.

Edit: Ninja'd by Vihear, but I think there was a much earlier confirmation as well.

In agreement with Clavain, I don't have a link handy (on mobile device) but the general consensus is that Erimus has the right area marked

im in the rift now, its hard to navigate, i have some jumponium but trying to save until i really need it. going to just plot around and see where i can get to. its bloody dark!

Good man. Im grounded until I know my bug is fixed. Or they fix my hull up. Really stupid of me to go so far with this issue.
Suns...

I was thinking man, that Drew said only part of the rift has been explored. Remember what I said about NGC 5822 and those stars over by the H&S Nebula maybe being beacons?

He's also said "Watch your six" So maybe get to somewhere where they both line up behind you, and pedal to the metal?

Just an idea! (Maybe the rift is bigger than we think? and the RR line was just a VERY rough indication- Maybe we are just skimming the edge of it?)

It really did look like an arrow last night from where we were!

Then again, ive forgotten if NGC 5822 was still visible last night. We might be too far away.

I think you are right (both of you).

I'm quite bad at navigating the GalMap, but I think the system Rho Cassiopeiae seem to be in an interesting spot.

Rho is written Ro in a lot of languages. Ro, Cassiopeiae RO, C.

Is also known as 7 Cassiopeiae. In case we need some veils.:p

Best Tinfoiling I could do today. Take a look, I could be way of.

Right you lot.

Look at this. Now I know its most likely NOT what we are looking for but...

Rho cassiopeiae is in an interesting spot for sure. About 4400 ly from where I am now, looks to be a couple thousand ly off the direct RR line, but if that line is just a guide then it should be checked out.

IIRC Erimus did not get there as it is out of normal jump ranges, and I believe you need jumponium to get to it (or an Engineer mod perhaps when they come) so that probably precludes it from being linked to Drew's secret which has been reachable since launch. Still interesting though, and worth checking out. Or I might be confusing it with another named system out that way, at work so no GalMap or notes handy.

Interesting. The 2MASS named systems would definitely be worth checking out, if not the whole cluster, given that supposedly this is one of the most ancient star clusters known to humankind... being that far above the plane might give you a good "look back at the galaxy just hanging there" moment as well.

Probably not - more likely just proc-gen based around observational bias based on the the 2MASS systems and NGC 188, similar to the (in)famous "star corridor" leading to the Orion Nebula. Still worth checking out though.

I have seen those corridors and explored some of them. Most probably it's because most of the star data is taken out of real star catalogs, and some telescope might have had some extra work in that area. As far as I know, they mostly point to Sol, so that would make sense.

Does bring the question though that maybe we underestimated the number of stars in our galaxy...

It looked hard to reach. :)

It seems to be a hot candidate for going super nova. Hope someone makes it before it blows up. :)

The game needs a few supernovas (supernovae?) to shake things up a bit and make things more interesting. As long as I am nowhere near them, but can watch.

It might have gone supernova already a couple of years ago, just that there was nobody there to see it. Let's see who's the first brave soul to go there and check...
