Formidine Rift... what is it?

I have the same question. But looking at the map, why would it be the first dark space between arms? It's just not that dark or empty either, and not a good candidate for 'nobody has been past it'. There is another rift beyond the next arm (the very faint one) where the stars really do thin out. Maybe we are looking too close to home?

"Keep going" didn't specify where you should stop :)

It's not the first gap, but the second one. Around 10.000ly from Sol.

His clues seem to be all over the place. A Berber Queen, seven veils, core of the problem, hints toward ciphers. I can't find a connection

My personal take on that was that the SAP 8 core description matches the description of the crystal data core described in John Harper's And Here The Wheel, containing the map to
The location of the CIEP base (former Thargoid base) in Soontill
And has nothing to do with the Rift. How short some people's memories are.... ;-)

I wonder how the different books are connected? There seem to be a link between Kahina and Dr. Walden. A link by the name of Chuthrick Delaney.

Seems to be just as challenging to navigate as people say. I've taken note of my start point and am just following what I can of the preplotted available jumps while hoping for luck.

I'm about 5k ly out from the Heart Nebula. Others may have explored it, but something in my gut is telling me to start there. Should make it sometime this afternoon, so I will see if the gut instinct is correct or leading me astray :)

Managed to squeeze a 37ly jump range, not sure if it will help or not. Thinking I should've prepped a few injections, but I can always rush back to the bubble if needed.

im still there trying to find a way into the rift. its a huge expanse of unplottable stars!

Yes, It's why to use EDDiscovery since you can get to a point where it's really hard to even backtrack your way out without it. You don't need to triangulate every system, I just do it for ones that have something interesting about them but you need to do it to have them show up on the map.

Most important thing to remember about this kind of quest where everyone is chasing some great unknown 'it' is they nearly always end like opening the arc in Raiders so expect "it" to blow up in your face with your months of exploration data going boom. Chasing the 'it' is always for the sake of the chase. This story line absolutely reeks of this.

"Summer is Coming"

im at EAFORDS WS-U D2-0

you can make your own mind up about if it IS the rift, personally i think i am on the edge of it looking for a route across or down.
i am making my way across what seems to be the edge of the rift using plottable routes looking for anything out of the ordinary..

My (very limited) understanding is that all the new lore books were written using background lore guides provided by FD for continuity purposes. So either Delaney appeared in one of those guides, or Drew or Allen created him and agreed to share him, as he appears in both Elite Reclamation and Lave Revolution. I do not recall him appearing in And Here the Wheel. I do recall Drew giving a few folks permission to use him in fan fiction I believe, so I think he was originally Drew's creation.

And Kate Russell's "Mostly Harmless" makes an off-hand mention of the Prism system with a reference that seems to be about Kahina/Salome from Drew's "Reclamation". It might be interesting to find and catalog where each of the books make reference to each other.
I don't recall any cross over info in "Docking is Difficult" but the entire tone of that book is as though it is taking place in an entirely different universe. Don"t get me wrong though, "Docking" is a brilliantly fun read.

I'm curious. Has anyone tried entering the rift from say, the Heart Nebula, and followed the core? Finally made it to the Heart Nebula and looking at the Galaxy map, following the core of the rift seems promising. If possible.

I haven't done that... though I've had the same theory: Follow the Reidquat/Reorte line to the edge of the rift and then plot a course from SgrA* through that point and follow THAT across the rift. It's certainly worth looking into.

A bad omen? Perhaps :D

I don't like our chances of progressing this until another clue is found. And Kahina disappeared about 9 months ago.

Since we were supposed to 'watch galnet'...what did we miss?

Salome: Seven Veils

S6:7 ? .... Maybe it was she who buzzed Obsidian Orbital... And maybe she put the Blue Hand up to kidnapping Palin ;)

I'm not sure if anything has been posted there for us to miss, yet. Tbh this could just be a giant red herring, but perhaps not. The sheer size of the area to search, and the difficulty extrapolating lines from thousands of ly away do little to help. Mysteries such as this one are the ones worth solving though.

It's not just the size of the rift that's the problem. It's the fact that we dont know if what we are looking for is inside, or on the other side. Witch makes the area to search truly massive. Without more pointers it's just a matter of hoping someone stumbles upon it. Add to that the fact there may be a criteria to meet.....makes my head hurt. I'm right at the edge of the rift at the minute. As close to the R&R line as I could. When I get online. I'll start my stumbling and hoping.

I am about half way in the rift. Not counting Rho Cassiopeia it's been smooth sailing all along.
From Sol to here i found a whopping 4 non scoopable stars. Only had fsd lock faillure at Rho Cass.

So far i found nothing. This space is empty :(
I know i won't find anything
It's so lonely out here...
Oh look! Another gas giant!

sigh...
