Franchise Community Challenge Discussion

Well it's certainly been a fun challenge for me and still 100 to go to meet my personal challenge of 50 a day

Sticking with the hill terrain it generated has made it tricky, but enjoyable making it work
But it's also got messy, finding anywhere it will let me build a path and adding shops to keep guests happy
But after squeezing in the final restaurant, I think I've found the hot spot for demand

zoo_tundra11.JPG

A shame this only shows 10 of the 185 penguins!

Looking forward to the next one :D

Not sure I reached 50 in my first one, so doing well (unless you played constantly for all 120 hours!)
And it becomes easier with pre-existing research, credits, animals and zoos

(I like setting a personal target, as that can be based on the amount of time I want to commit to playing)

Next Week's Challenge is ...

Critically Endangered

This week we're taking a closer look at the critically endangered animals, and releasing them back to the wild! Conservation should always be a number one priority for any zoo or wildlife park! Join in by releasing 3 star critically endangered animals this week, Zookeepers.

Key Factors :
Release Challenge
Critically Endagered Animals
3 Star Requirement

I'll update this with the list in game.

Okay, I have added those that will improve if mixed with the others. Some have others they will mix with that aren't marked as critically endangered so those are up to the individual. I've included their max ages and maturity ages for those that want to use those as decisions along with the social group numbers including the max of at least one of the sexes to help decide how many of the other. These all will likely help towards building star rating alongside their regular care and interest to the guests. Unless someone beats me to it, I'll add another grid with star rating values after going through my zoos for examples.

I've also added the exhibit animals that fit this conservation category for those ( like me ) that might want to create a specific zoo for this category of animals. But I have kept them separate to avoid confusion.

Let the zoo preparation commence .. rofl. Good Luck everyone.

Edit: I did, however, forget to add breeding difficulty which may be useful to know here as well. I'll add those as well, shortly.

Star Rating Info: ( to be updated after franchise server comes back up )
Help info on Star Rating:
Rating increases over time based on how well you look after your animal.
Higher welfare will mean star rating rises faster.
Lifespan also affects how easy it is to reach a 5 star rating ( but we only care about 3 ).
Longevity gene affects how much time the animal has to reach those stars.
If 90% to 100% longevity is needed for 5 stars, then I suspect 60%-70% will be needed for 3 stars.

Okay, the following are what I have at the moment in my various zoos. Some of the missing squares can be filled with numbers from similar values in other lines.

Edit: Updated with numbers provided by tigertimb thanks :)

While planning my new Critical Rescue zoo out I set up this table to help me envision how the animals would relate to each other when it comes to areas in the zoo for the workers and nature. The exhibits I mentioned early on which I plan on including in this zoo are all Americas based ( North, Central and South ) so plan on adding those without guests to build some cash flow ( although not as good as the butterflies ) before I add the first habitats.

Thank you for doing that - it's very helpful (y)

Not sure how much time I'll have, so might repurpose my zoo from the Cheetah challenge

But ideally I'd like to try another circle zoo :p
- Exhibits and shops all inside the circle, Habitats on the outside
- Focusing on 3 or 4 animals for the challenge (with nurseries)
- Another few species to make it more of a zoo and keep guests happy
- And try with just 6 restaurants and no individual food & drink shops at all

Something vaguely like this: (but it never ends up this neat as I discover where I need power, water and shops)

I was planning on a Critically Endangered Zoo at some point, just to get an additional group of those animals available to trade around and release to the wild as needed, so how fortunate that they have a challenge just fitting that idea rofl.

I have several 2's and 3's as you can see so I will probably move out my adults from other zoos and bring them into a new zoo to make more babies before releasing them for the credit once the challenge starts. And to start the ball rolling bring over at least some of the babies I have to add to the adult selection when I need to do the switch over after releases start happening.

Also realised I don't have a coquerel's sifaka habitat in my C Zoo. So will have to rectify that before I forget again rofl.

To help with traffic flow, it might be more useful to have a semicircle/curved path for the viewing area with different start and end points. That way they have a better chance of flowing naturally from start to end, especially if there are similar amenities near both path connecting points. I tend to find single paths to have more crowd issues than not.

I see what you mean, and that's what I'm hoping the hand-holds on my ships wheel will do for me - those are intended to quite big (8/10 radius) and the main viewing areas
Something similar worked for my Madagascar zoo, but I'll have to keep shops set well back too and hopefully that keeps the flow of the main circle
(and maybe I could put a loo and solar panel at the end of each one!)

Or; it will all go horribly wrong and I'll come back and apologise :D

Excellent work, thankyou :) Very happy to see lions on the list, they are my regular goto moneymaking staple. I have a heap of Amur leopards from an earlier challenge and I'd just created a Coquerel's Sifaka habitat (2 days ago!) when I spotted I was missing the research for them so that all works out quite nicely.

At first glance it looks as though Somali Wild Ass, Dama Gazelle, Black Rhino and Addax can all share an African Desert habitat (leaving space for Chimpanzees/Orangutans)

Yeah there may be some non enriched compatibility. I'll probably make that sort of decision when I start making up my zoo. A consideration for habitat size as well, as that can cause issues with the staff if too big.

Love the circular layout. Definitely gonna try that myself!

I find congestion, even with 8w paths, to still be an issue - particularly in a space like you describe. I'm gonna try doing parralel 8w paths and connect em periodically. That way the inner path is mostly for exhibit fans and shoppers(why there are always more people buying food/drinks/items than viewing animals I will never understand), while the outer path is for habitat sightseers.

That is the same discussion with @Xrystal and you might both be right :D
Edit: Maybe actually we're all describing variants on the main thing - making sure the viewing area doesn't block the main path, whether that's from a parallel path or a loop off the path

Still happy to experiment though and to better show what I'm picturing, this was my Madagascar zoo, where the main connecting path was largely butterfly exhibits!
This was early on - those loops did fill up fairly nicely over time

If you do try a circle, please share; it would be interesting to compare results

Made a start: (using funds from selling excess animals from last challenge!)
- butterflies
- first couple of loops with loos (the other 4 will need solar generators too)
- first couple of restaurants

Failed miserably with my circles being very concentric - and the loops into the enclosure are a bit rough and ready too!

I'm hoping that the loos will encourage the caretakers to clean the guest paths if I put them in a group with just the shops
(as the habitat gates will be in the outer ring, I don't want the caretakers spending all their time on staff paths)
