I'm a prophet!VR is a two letter acronym like CG and II, so it might be dropped at any time in order to make New Era better! All two letter acronyms are EXPENDABLE!
Muhahahah!!!

There are crickets and tumbleweed from the people that tore into everyone questioning whether VR would be supported in the future.I'm a prophet!
Although I don’t believe I’ve ever “tore into” anyone regarding the future of VR, I have definitely said that I thought their fears were unfounded and of course the future of ED included VR.There are crickets and tumbleweed from the people that tore into everyone questioning whether VR would be supported in the future.
That is the problem for me, and I suspect a few other VR users - the statement had just enough ambiguity to be useless in my opinion.FD have not come out and gave a direct answer to the question of dropping support for VR...
...So for me yes it's upsetting that FD won't support VR at time of release, but they have never came out and said they are 100% dropping their support for VR.
I agree they haven't said VR support for Odyssey won't be coming, but on the flip side, they haven't said it will at the point when that statement would be most useful to calm VR users' fears.FD have not come out and gave a direct answer to the question of dropping support for VR. Just that the new DLC won't support it at launch. This doesn't mean it will never be supported.
NMS, Pavlov, Skyrim, Fallout 4 are all supported with a VR version of the game, and work well. Subnautica is another one that requires the user to be sitting using a xbox controller for locomotion.

I was wrong.
I hope no one ever took offence at my non-belief in their worries, but if they did, I offer my apologies. I’m now going to slip back into my headset, I need the foam padding to dry my cheeks![]()
Basically all I have to say is:
- If they remove VR support from Elite Dangerous Horizons, I will be taking a full refund for Elite Dangerous, Horizons DLC, and all the ARC I have purchased to keep them afloat.
- If they retain VR support in Horizons, I simply won't purchase the new Odyssey DLC until VR is supported there. But I won't initiate refunds.
This game is VR for me. Not at all interested in any other way of experiencing it. The new content looks good only if it is in VR, otherwise I am just not interested. This is all being done in Star Citizen, and in much better quality. VR is what makes this game worth playing.
Just to add to this, VR will still be compatible with the base game and Horizons!
After playing AircarVR I’ve dreamed of that experience coming to ED, raindrops on the canopy in a neon-soaked city scape.Fortunately, we won't be losing VR support for Horizons or the base game. We just won't get to explore the new worlds in VR... which is what I wanted to do.
From the announcement thread:

If they intend to eventually add VR for Odyssey, then fine, I don’t mind waiting. I’d probably play some flatscreen on release to get a taste, knowing that the awesome version will be along in 2022 or whenever.
If they intend to never add VR for Odyssey, then fine, I’d be a bit upset and very disappointed in the short-term but I’d probably eventually come around and try it out on release.
I would, however, like to be told definitively, one way or the other. I’ve been through this before after David Braben’s ambiguous Offline dropping email a month before the original release and it took a lot of people going “Wha..? Does this mean Offline’s been dropped?” before FDev finally released a proper “It’s dead, Jim” statement.

VR fans may then play Horizons for old time's sake and dream about what could have been, but I'm already looking for a VR game to replace it. Could be DCS World (great immersion and really good VR IMO), Star Citizen (who knows with that one) or NMS (really has come a long way since the release in 2016 and now has VR and legs, although a bit cartoonish).
