Fuel Dump Button Please.

I can see the point of having an accurate fuel measurement but why do you need to dump fuel

Because sometimes, you are in a situation where you have a max (ie - the exact amount of fuel to get the most jump range out of your ship, not on a full tank)) jump range of, say 47.35 LY, and you need to make a jump of... 47.35LY. Trying to get your mass *exactly right* by scooping and burning fuel is a long, painful and frustrating process. Even with a magic rail gun.

So you want an I win button for the edge. That the thing the edge should be hard. Any stupid mistake will cost you. Sometimes even death. It requires careful planning.

While I agree the edge of the galaxy should be difficult to navigate. A button to dump fuel would also mean you had to make absolutely sure before you jumped that you had enough fuel remaining. It doesn't necessarily take away the risk it just changes what the risk is. For example I could fly around in supercruise for the same result. The only risk there is that due to the waiting time, you may leave for a while and come back to a ship with no fuel or a possible rebuy. Whilst also a risk it's a pretty boring risk in my opinion. Having to calculate how much fuel you need to dump and if you do indeed have the needed range. You may even need synthesis in order to jump succesfully. However if you screw up and dump too much fuel. Well, good luck jumping on fumes. I find the idea a much more fun alternative to gameplay, instead of sitting in supercruise waiting for the fuel gauge to lower. Though I'm going off the idea the fuel would be dumped with some sort of slider (how many tonnes of fuel you wish to dump) rather than a button. I'm also expecting the fuel to not be obtainable again when it has been dumped. Once the fuels gone, it's gone.

I'll remember to tell my buddies that fly commercial aircraft, that the next time they need to dump fuel for an emergency landing of a passenger filled A330, that they should appreciate their "I win" button, and that really, they should be flying around in circles for 10-12 hours burning off exactly the right amount of fuel.

On a side note - can we have it "dump & burn" style, like the F-111?

In the worst case scenario you'll just sit in SC while waiting to burn the fuel, the dump button would just accelerate the process so it really won't be an "I win button".

+1

Has been asked for, for years. Not sure if Frontier ever commented on it though.

Think it would be a relatively easy-ish feature to add.

I can't remember anytime I would have needed such a button. That said 90 percent of commercial pilots would prob say the same thing and yet they keep adding this feature to every plane built.

Simple and probably easy to program in. Even if it doesn't help me other players would proobably find this QOL a godsend.

Tell FDEV you got my OK. Hopefully they will have added it on this next big update.

"I want a fuel dump button and an IGNITER to deter pirates ! "

That just gave me an idea ,why don't we have booby trap cargo cannisters (highly illegal of course) so when a pesky pirate demands blah blah you can assign a sensor I'd to the booby trapped cannisters and let em go. They pick them up and you remote detonate them.

Counters would be high end sensors or armoured cargo bays .

I support this.

I originally thought that the plasma slug draw-down’s existence served as enough justification. That, however, is an exploit vs. an intended game mechanic. Very different ball of wax.

I support it now for immersion reasons (not being sarcastic). Modern planes have fuel dumps, modern manned spacecraft have them; shouldn’t we?

Seems logical thing to have when mass dictates jump range.

Can not think of a reason why we should not have one.

It's an "I win button", apparently.

Because PvP honking is a thing.

Lestat, riddle me this: How is it an "I win button" if everyone has equal access? That fact completely dismantles all your "arguments" in this thread.

You're arguing against actual gameplay in favour of players sitting AFK for hours on end.

This is a small feature that we should have from day one and some people are against it?
I can see from what they write that they cannot be called explorers, but they do have an opinion here. I am sure that they have never been in a situation that needed to dump fuel, and jumping between systems wasnt an option.
Probably the same people that were fighting against bigger jump ranges, back when asp could do 33 LY.

Crazy fools, why do you always jump? One of these days your gonna land on a star as stubborn as you are. And I dont do bits and pieces.
(cookie for CMDRs who get the reference)

Imo fuel dumb should be possible aswell as turning extra fuel tanks off so they dont get filled.

Please can we have a fuel dump button.

Yes this gets asked a lot and no, we still don't have one. It was suggested that we can use a Rail Gun to achieve the same effect but you must go to an engineer to get the ammunition, magic spell or whatever to make it use fuel. I know that the mere mention of the wizards will summon the russian chat bots to derail the thread but hopefully this plea will be heard before the inevitable lock.

Come on, most of us remember syphoning fuel from cars for...er … emergency reasons. It's a simple one.... Come on..... please....

Sounds like a good idea, yeah. Being able to manually transfer fuel would be a good thing I guess, also to be able to instantly help with those distress calls. Ejecting fuel would also be useful to get that little bit of extra jumprange sometimes.

.

Your mate operates the A330? He will tell you that the bulk of them don't have fuel dump capability, you have to circle to dump fuel or follow the overweight landing procedure. You have a jettison on the A340 because the take off weight is normally a lot higher than the max landing weight.

@Op - Fully agree, shouldn't be hard to implement either now that the game mechanic is in place.
