Galnet: Core Dynamics Purchases Lakon Spaceways

I'm more and more convinved that this storyline is tied to Odyssey, so I'm thinking we can expect launch around that time.
I had the same thought - with the Alliance Elections at the end of Feb and now this - but I really can't see how they can fit an Alpha - and a Beta - into those 2 months. Unless they get a move on and announce the Alpha pretty soon. And are more confident than they usually are about no major bugs being found.

(Also - remember all the Galnets about HUD changes that went nowhere? The responses from fdev were along the lines of 'we don't announce game changes from within galnet', so there's that 🤷‍♀️ )

I'm more inclined to think it's in line with the Alliance Elections, but then it's all guess work on our part anyway.
Sure it's guesswork (and lots of hoping on my part), but I believe we're going to get new ships with Odyssey, so this fits in nicely, whether they will introduce new manufacturer, or something else happens that will end in new models being brought up to the public.

Don't crush my hope, I need it! ;)

(Edit: Accidentally quite apt - give us flying saucers fdev!)

I'm thinking Alpha is imminent.

How does this confirm a ship from Zorgon Peterson (a subsidiary of Faulcon DeLacy) is being released?
It doesn't at all.
Just me hoping, no praying this is the narrative to get this beast into the game!
Regardless of the lore.
I think there is enough evidence FDev don't consult the Brookes Bible anymore. (Ed's words not mine)

Why?

Or does the narrative explicitly state that there would be a rebranding of Lakon? If it does, I'll agree. Otherwise, you're just jumping to the factually incomplete conclusion that buyout == rebranding.
You're right - there was an assumption about rebranding. But ignoring that I can't yet see the actual point of this story. There's Lakon and there's Core Dynamics, both with their distinct looks and brand. Why confuse the issue? Is it for some ultra-realism within Galnet? (these things can happen in real life so why not in game) or does it lead to a place which then explains the introduction of a new ship? On the face of it (and in my mind) If the merger goes ahead it just somehow diminishes the entire Lakon brand if your Asp Explorer is now a Core Dynamics ship in all but branding. One thing I will say, it's a news story that's certainly intriguing since it affects something deeply relevant to players (our ships) rather than something somewhat ephemeral (like the tensions between Federation and Empire).

In lore many of the ships started out with companies that were merged and bought out. The Python, Eagle, Anaconda etc are really, really old- Lakon being bought out by Core is just a continuation of that.

For example:

The Python is a ship manufactured by Faulcon DeLacy. An iconic model, the Python pioneered modular ship design and singlehandedly revolutionized space travel when it was introduced by Whatt and Pritney Ship Constructions in 2700

This sticks in my mind mainly as its a p take of the engine maker Pratt and Whitney :D

I really don't understand where are they going with that narrative... Lakon is established and popular ship manufacturer in that universe, adored and praised by many players. I don't see any point in "merge" like this. Are they just trying to anger Lakon fans? What's going to happen to in-game ship models and descriptions? Are they going to change all that? Add Core Dynamic signatures inside and out of these ships? Lakon will not exist anymore?

Really, the only logical conclusion I see here is that something's going wrong, and deal doesn't go through. I honestly see no point in erasing major manufacturer from the game purely for the sake of narrative...
Core dynamics is going to add additional cargo capacity for the type 9 and redesign the scout to find a use for it.

Can't say I'm a fan of this storyline to be honest. It seems very much like just taking more things away from the one Superpower in the game that is already underrepresented in terms of gameplay.
Of course it could also tie in with the whole expansion into the Coalsack and an alliance between the Alliance and Thargoids, which could involve a breeding program or some such...

Now there's a shocking thought.

I still think its a way of keeping the ships relevant in game when the Alliance get wiped out

hmm this could get messy real quick, does that mean thargoid/human hybrid ships as well? docking stations, outposts planetary settlements all with a thargoid skin?

could also mean an introduction to a more pinned down story mode for Odyssey?
