Galnet player bounty-board UI concept

I would not limit tracking or have bounty hunting lock-outs. It might take an army of sideys to take down that criminal cutter... need all the help they can get.

That's right, it shouldn't have a lock-out limit. But there should be a time delay so the criminal benefits from staying on the move.

As for for the suicide-winder exploit... One single death should not necessarily make you clean.
Only allow the criminal's death to "work down" the total bounty, opposite of how it is earned in the first place, and based on the rebuy of the ship. In this way, a few 40mil rebuy corvette deaths would clear the bounty, but it would take 2000 sidewinder deaths to clear it. The criminal won't want/let their friends farm their bounty because it will cost them a LOT in rebuys no matter what ship they are in.

I agree, ship's rebuy value should clear the equivalent bounty value.

That is a amazing idea OP! If something like this was implemented I may well start playing open again.

Thanks, it would certainly improve open for bounty-hunters & criminals.

Nice idea with bounty tracking it would add a great cat and mouse dynamic whilst giving the gankers and griefers the style of play they really want. I had similar idea whilst putting some ideas down around crime and punishment as a whole in the following link https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...system-without-reinventing-the-(karmic)-wheel . Effective PvP bounty hunting would be a great addition to the game and the mechanism you suggested is pretty much off the shelf anyway, with the friends system and mission systems.

Somethings I would add to your ideas though is:-
1 . Factions / powers would have separate parallel bounty system to the Pilots Federation one but working on a similar principle as you outlined. Galnet would indeed be a good place for the PF bounty board.
2. Suggest that tracking would be done by NPC system security ship scans and also by cmdr scans with report crimes on. This would even up the playing field if a cmdr in a weaker ship is interdicted and attacked if they could survive long enough to scan their attacker then this would alert the chasing bounty hunters. Even weaker cmdr's could pose a threat to the strongest.

Combat logging and mode switching would be a major obstacle to overcome to make bounty hunting and the game itself play better. Hopefully the new changes coming down the line will deal with this. Perhaps cmdr's that are on the bounty boards are forced to play in open at least for a period of time.

Hopefully the karma system could be constructed that persistent cloggers would have a percentage chance of character death if their ship is destroyed. Let say one confirmed instance of Clogging then a 10% chance their characters dies and they would start from scratch. The chance of character death would increase with instances of combat logging. Lets say 10 confirmed instances would be straight character death, back to the sidewinder.

Rep +1

In seriousness tho, this is a good idea.

If FDEV doesn't want a "real" crime and punishment system, and wants this to be like the wild west in space then that's fine, but at least this would give players the tools to police ourselves, and create a bit more player-player interaction in the process.

Along side the Fuel rats, we could also have... the bounty rats!

Agreed, it would give scope for proper PvP bounty hunter factions to emerge. Right now there really isn't any opportunity for them.
