GALNET - Prototype Frame Shift Drive almost production ready, competitor sceptical - 04 APR 3310

Boost in SC acts as a toggle - you accelerate superfast and your heat goes up (to damaging levels after a little while). Boost key again to toggle off, you decelerate and cool down (there also seems to be an actual short FSD cooldown before you can boost again).

I was just using a random Cobra with no heat management. Looking forward to working out how best to use this thing...
Fit it in a Dolphin?

Was going to suggest this could work for A-X activities. With the current Orthrus hunting in Alert systems, visited one yesterday and the only Lvl4 Non-Human signals (Orthrus) available appeared beyond 250KLs from the system's sun. Even with the max timer, that would be difficult to get to under normal super cruise speeds.

Who’d have thought, putting an overdrive module based on Titan technology into FSDs makes them try to cook your ship(and you).

… sarcastic joking aside, I did think there’d be a drawback to thermal load with that thing while the fast mode is active. Maybe we should have tried to salvage some of the Titan heat venting technology as well while we were at it.

I've yet to test against interdictions, but this could make cold AX builds be able to boost away from the many, many interdictions faced when supercruising to spires/titans. It'd make it nicer than the submit, boost, wake cycle.
You can't activate the overcharge if you're being interdicted sadly, I have yet to test against Thargoids, maybe it can finally handle their interdictions at the very least?

That's frustrating. I suppose it might help mitigate if you notice a Thargoid pop up on your sensors before they start the interdiction. I need to learn to read the radar in supercruise better methinks.

You should just be able to burn all the way there, and dock at some ungodly temperature and just wait for it to subside and repair every now and then at dock.
I'd be tempted to go for the Dolphin with its broken heat mechanics. But I think the instability will be an issue with long boosts - it's certainly balanced to be most useful for short bursts.

Edit: Got out to around 600k ls before fuel was low. Temperature only up to around 200%, but (as expected) pretty unstable. No Hutton win for me :)
Anyone tried engineering this thing yet?

Not possible - at least yet.
